Welcome to the ftp.dcrubro.com FTP Server! ================================================= - Introduction: This server was made because I (for some reason pretty common with me) have been on a recent binge on hosting whatever comes to mind. This one came to fruition when I was watching The Serial Port's (shout out to those guys) video on Archie, a software that indexed anonymous FTP servers and is often recognized as the World's First Search Engine (yes, the World Wide Web based on HTTP didn't always exist!). That gave me the idea of "huh... maybe I should host my own anonymous FTP!" and here we are! - Okay, but what can I actually find on here? Honestly, whatever I happen to upload. I'll probably be making a manual mirror of stuff I host on my Website, dcrubro.com. This site may be of use to people who might want to fetch files, but don't have access to a web browser (headless environment) or are for some reason or a really old platform that doesn't handle modern webpages well anymore (to be fair, my website is intentionally not modern). - How do I use this? Considering you're reading this, you've already done the first required step of connecting to the FTP Server! For your information, an FTPS (FTP over TLS) version of this host also exists, should you prefer TLS! All files are in the /pub/ directory. Once you're in there, feel free to run "ls" and browse (use your standard coreutils "cd " command)! Once you find a file that interests you, run "get " and FTP will do its thing (make sure you're in binary mode! (run "bin" or "binary")). Since FTP likes putting you into ~/ by default, I recommend running "lcd ~/Desktop" or "lcd ~/Documents" (or any other path you like) to set the download location to a more friendly spot. - Special thanks Thank you ARDC for providing the IPv4 space that this FTP server runs on. - Closing words If you find any issues, suggestions, or just want to shoot me an email, you can contact me on info@dcrubro.com.
