Rating: G Disclaimer: I'm making no money here. I'm also poor. So try getting blood from a turnip. I'm only borrowing the characters of Mulder & Scully. Looking back, I know Scully was pregnant that morning in Oregon when I woke to the sound of the phone ringing and learning that Theresa Hoese had disappeared. After hanging up, I called to Scully only to realize she was in the bathroom. The sounds I heard on the other side of the door told me that she was still sick. So I knocked and gently opened the door. "Scully...", I'm about to ask her what's wrong when she announces, "I'll be fine, Mulder," which experience has taught me that is not the whole truth. So I just get one of those motel wash cloths off the rack and soak it in cool water. She thanks me and takes it so she can wash her face. Moments later she emerges from the bathroom looking very tired. "Scully, I got a call while you were in there. They say Theresa Hoese is missing. "Missing?" she questions me. "But we just saw her yesterday." "I know and right now it's a real mystery. They want us back out there as soon as possible." I believe Scully was almost relieved that I was talking about the case rather than about what went on last night and this morning. "Mulder, I'm going over to my room to get a change of clothes and I'll meet you back here" she tells me. I acknowledge with a nod, but I can't let her leave just yet. "Scully, wait". She turns back to me looking somewhat surprised. "If you're not up to this, I'll go check things out. You stay here and try to get some rest. I can handle it." "I'm fine, Mulder. Quit worrying about me, please..." she tells me. Ouch! Now I know something isn't right. So I go to her and take her in my arms and she willingly relaxes into my embrace. "I was willing to believe that last night, but this morning..." I whisper in her ear. "It's probably something I ate or maybe it's the flu" she says, cutting off what I was about to say. "I hope that's all it is Scully" as I kiss her cheek. I made her promise to see doctor when we got back to DC. Images of her battle with cancer come to mind and I prayed this wasn't a reoccurrence. Then I think that just maybe her symptoms could be a sign that we have created a miracle after all. Authors Notes: I've never subscribed to the idea that Scully only had one episode of morning sickness in Within. Mulder may have witnessed it the morning after in Requiem, but for obvious reasons they didn't make the connection. Oh, and she never left his bed that night.
