He sits at his desk, his hand on his forehead, dark hair pushed
back. I have sat here for hours, but I can't help but look at his
shoulders, the juts of bone like wings through his shirt's rumpled
back. The faint smell of sweat from a day's fruitless work.

So I go to him, moving slowly. My hands settle on his shoulders, the
back of his neck. He does nothing. Then I lean down to the skin
beneath his ear, my cheek rubbing there and my lips taking the lobe
between them, tongue smoothing.

The pen goes down, and I feel a intake of breath. He says my name,
and then: "I'm so tired."

My arms go beneath his to the pearled buttons of this shirt. More
skin, the darkness over his heart. His warm belly. The line of soft
black hair that leads to his sex.

I have followed it before.

I know.
