Skinner put pen to paper, frowned, hesitated, stopped. However she felt
about him, she would do her best. She always did for him, for those who
couldn't speak for themselves. Granted, he was her partner, yet even so,
she would do the same for anyone, fight just as hard even without the
personal investment.

He rubbed the gold ring he'd put back onto his finger. God, what Sharon had
said in the hospital. . .she had saved three lives, his own, and Scully's,
and their informant. Was it at the price of her own? Would he ever know,
one way or another?

Was this what he had been reduced to? He wasn't the easiest of men, he
knew, but he'd never have thought. . .there would be so few people in his
life. So few women. So few people to love and be loved by in return.
Maybe it would come with time, when he had fewer responsibilities.

Not bloody likely.

Sitting back in his chair, he passed a hand over his face. It was a big
risk, but in the end, who else could he trust? Sharon. . . she had saved
his life once.

He couldn't trust she would do so again.

Decision made, he wrote the other name down on the form and hoped like hell
she'd never find out.

In case of emergency: Dana Scully.

Author's note: Come on, didn't you want to know why he put Scully down
instead of Sharon in S.R.819?
