ADRIFT
Written by: Erin M. Blair
------------------------------------

I'm adrift.

I don't know where I am.

I have this vision of a white place,
with differing shapes looking and
poking at me.

But it doesn't fit with my current situation.
I can see myself drifting away like a
balloon without someone to hold onto.

It's like having no gravity, nothing to
hold onto.

All I can see before me is a huge, misty lake
and Melissa and Mulder standing on the dock.

With each separate time they stand there on the
dock, I can hear them losing faith in me. Melissa
wants to believe I'll be all right, but Mulder knows
the truth. He can't accept my death; even if I do die,
I know he'll never lose me.

Somehow, his love for me will stop me from drifting.

End of Vignette

Author's Notes: This story was written back in 2001 when
there was a lot of "Requiem" fic posted after the Season 7 finale
when I was writing this originally. Knowing this, I decided to write
about "One Breath" about Scully's abduction. Years later, I dusted
this fic off and decided to work on it again. I'm glad that I
did. :) This was truly a beautiful ride for me.

I would like to thank Jen, as always, for beta reading this story.
