XxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxX And Many More XxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxX Dana Scully walked down the stairs to her partner's hidden-away basement office and pushed open the door. Fox Mulder looked up from the mound of paperwork sitting on the one desk in the office. "Hey, Scully," her greeted her. Reaching down, he slid open a drawer and pulled out a small white box which he attempted to shove across the desk's cluttered surface towards her. Scully smiled and picked it up. "You remembered," she said. "You sound surprised." Scully shrugged. "Not surprised that you remembered; just that you actually got me something. I mean, last year all I got was a keychain." Mulder smiled sheepishly and gestured toward the unopened box Scully still held. "Maybe this will make up for it." Scully slid the top off of the box to reveal a delicate herringbone chain, on which was a silver 'X' pendant. Smiling, she fingered the chain and smiled fondly at her partner. "Thank you," she said. "It's beautiful." Mulder stood and moved up behind her. Reaching around her, he took the necklace and undid the clasp, helping her put it on. Scully smiled and turned around when he was finished. "Thank you again. I really love it." "Can I give the birthday girl a kiss as a reward?" Mulder asked. He watched incredulously as Dana Scully - his partner, his *best friend* - looked down and...BLUSHED?!?! Scully looked back up and met his eyes. Placing her hands on his chest, she gently touched her lips to his. Mulder moaned loudly and backed the woman in his arms against a nearby wall, deepening the kiss. He was still unable to grasp that this was not just a woman that he was kissing. This was the woman he had loved and lusted after for the past three years. She had been the welcome light in his dark world; his anchor; his rock. As Scully slipped her arms around Mulder's neck and held him tighter, he realized just how much he loved this woman who had put up with his crap time after time, yet still took care of him, defended him, and protected him. What had he ever done to deserve such trust and loyalty? Scully moved her mouth to Mulder's ear. "I love you," she whispered. Mulder pulled back, his hands on Scully's shoulders. "No," he said. "No, Scully, you deserve to be with someone who can offer you more than what I can." Scully stared at him in shock. "You can't mean that," she said. Mulder nodded. "I do. You deserve to have someone who can always there for you; someone safe and stable, who will never let you down, ditch you, argue with your every word; someone who will always be there to protect; take care of you. Not the other way around..." Scully put a finger to Mulder's lips. "Mulder, I don't ever want to hear you talking like that again. I have been there for you for the past three years not because anyone was forcing me to, but because I wanted to. Mulder, I told you once that I wouldn't put myself on the line for anyone but you. Do you think anyone made me say that? No. Mulder, How many times have I risked my career, my life, for you? I gave up being able to have a normal, safe relationship a long time ago. Now, there's only one person that I could ever be with. And that's you." Mulder smiled, his face practically glowing with happiness. Pulling Scully to him once more, he murmured into her hair "I am one lucky bastard." Scully smiled against Mulder's neck. "Yes, you are," she agreed before pulling his lips to hers and prying his mouth open with her tongue. They were standing like this when the door to the office burst open. The agents quickly jumped apart. But not quickly enough. Spinning around, they saw Assistant Director Walter Skinner standing in the doorway, glaring at them. "Agent Mulder, Agent Scully, I think you have some explaining to do," he said sternly. "Uh-oh," Mulder muttered.
