And She Waited 1/1 She waited silently in the cold depths of her apartment. She was alone, truly alone. Mulder had left her, he had shot himself. She was alone. She almost laughed, picturing Mulder putting a gun to his head and pulling the trigger. He would never kill himself, he was too strong of a person for that. No, THEY had killed him and had cleverly made it look like a suicide. One she knew the truth. Only she was left. At dawn THEY would come, stealing through the dark hallways, creeping into her apartment, killing her in her sleep. She would surprise them. She leaned over and lightly touched the gun on the table next to her. She would surprise them. They had taken Mulder's life and for that she would make them pay. They had torn him away from her forever and for that they would die. Her revenge would be complete. She would not let his death go unpunished. Somehow, she had thought that she would know the moment of her partner's death. That she would feel something torn away from her, a part oferself spiraling away into darkness. Yet she had felt nothing. There was no one more closely linked than they and yet she had felt nothing. He was just...gone. Away from this world so full of pain and memories. Safe in heaven's warm light. She loved him. She could say that now. There were no barriers blocking those words from her lips. She loved him. She had loved him with all her heart and those bastards had taken him. A touch of warmth startled her and she saw a shaft of morning sunlight spilling through the window. They would be coming now. Coming to kill her as they had killed Mulder. She stood calmly and trained her gun on the door. If she was to die that day she would at least take one of those murderers with her. If she died then perhaps she would be able to see Mulder again. Then she would be safe. Her door suddenly flew open, banging against the opposite door. Her eyes widened and her gun clattered to the floor. Mulder. He stood in the doorway, haggard and with dark circles under his eyes. He looked at her and held out his arms She ran to him and threw her arms around his neck. He slipped his arms around her waist tenderly, feeling her emotion. She did not wonder how it was possible that he was standing in front of her. He was here, with her, and that was all that mattered. She would wait no longer. * * * * * * Feedback? Comments?
