Mulder and Scully having a life ... because his toying is too hard to bare... $%&$%&$% Awake and Dreaming By: Laura Sprys Mulder was as certain as anything else in his life that he was dreaming. There couldn't be any other explanation. Scully didn't seem the type to sleep totally and completely naked. Then again, he wasn't about to question the contents of what had to be the best damn dream of his life. The scene was perfect before his eyes, the moonlight mingling with the glow of the streetlight. Lying with her back towards him, Mulder took in the gentle curves and flowing lines of her legs, her hips, her shoulders. Thinking his eyes would never tire of the sight, her watched her turn over, stretching out, seeming taller than her five-foot-three. He felt dizzy as he moved closer to her, amazed that his dream Scully seemed real enough to touch, to kiss, to caress, to confess his love to. Knowing he could wake at any moment; Mulder knelt on the floor beside his dream, reaching out to the soft skin that called his name. Scully opened her eyes slowly and asked him in a sleepy whisper, "are you okay?" Laying his lips on hers, "I just wanted to make sure you were real and not a dream." Holding her arms up to him, "then how 'bout you come to bed and hold me so you know I'm not a dream." "But what if, when I close my eyes and open them again, you're gone?" "I'm alive and real Mulder, flesh, bone, heart and soul. I'm never going anywhere because I belong with you ... and to you." He circled the bed and slid in beside her, "and I belong to you, all 6 feet of belligerence and paranoia." Scooting back in his arms, "if I'm dreaming, never let me wake and if I'm awake, never let me sleep." "I love you Scully." "I love you too." $%&$%&$%& It had been nearly seven months since he'd been able to touch her, look at her, lose himself for even a moment in her eyes. The only thing he had during those horrible months were his dreams, surviving only through the thought of her. Scully had been his only focus during his time gone and now that they were together again, he found himself frightened that he may not have come home at all; that he had finally moved into his dreams so completely that reality meant nothing to him anymore. It was this thought that sent him to the bathroom, sweating and nauseous to take the toilet for a spin with the undigested contents of his stomach. Finishing, he quietly brushed his teeth and swished a mouthful of Listerine to be on the safe side. Heading back to the bedroom, he leaned on what had become 'his spot' in the doorjamb. She once again lay before him, moonlight streaming through the same window and falling on the same soft skin. The mirroring of the situation filled him with dread, a panic that he was living in his dream world when in reality, he was trapped in that chair, never to live life again. She turned in the bed, causing a terrified scream to rise in his throat. An instant later, however, his heart rejoiced. Tonight, her body had taken on another shape, the full roundness of her belly making his heart sing. Kneeling next to her once again, he placed his cheek on her stomach, feeling the soft fluttering kick of the child within. Waking up slowly, she stared blurrily down at him, a smile playing on her lips, "she always seems to know when her dad is around." He regarded her with pleading eyes, "she's not a dream is she?" "She's our dream Mulder, yours and mine." "If I'm dreaming Scully, never let me wake and if I'm awake, never let me sleep." "I love you Mulder." "I love you too." $%&$%&$%& Thanks for reading ... enter anytime ... my stories like to have visitors (all of which can be found or can be found soon, at the gossamer site - either under Sprys, Laura or Sprys, L.)
