Boston and Barenaked Ladies rule man! ***************************************************** 2:38 P.M. Inn by the Sea, Bath, Maine Scully sat on her bed, utterly bored. The homicide detail her partner and herself had been assigned to had been closed, the suspect turning himself in. They had discussed this topic at length for some time before becoming bored with that. There was nothing on television, the television not working. No radio, no good restaurants and nothing to do. Her partner and herself had agreed to go for a car ride. She enjoyed the comfortable silences that they shared while they drove together in the car. She loved to watch him, when he wasn't aware that she was. He always looked as if he were at peace, no distractions, and just the road in front of him. She had always wanted to lean over and see what he would do. If he would stop the car, placing priority on her. They drove, both content to keep driving. They drove for an hour and a half before his eyes perked up and his breathing heightened. He wordlessly pointed out of the window to his left, a carnival. He turned to Scully and smiled a devious smile. The smile of a child who was about to get his way. "Mulder, no." She said rolling her eyes and then casting them down. "Aw, come on Scully. There's nothing to do back at the motel and god knows we could use a little fun." He touched her arm and she quickly tensed and cast her eyes down once more. "Mulder, carnivals are disgusting. They're dirty and they always try to haggle you into playing those games that you can't win. Then they become addictive and before you know it they've haggled you out of fifty bucks." "Well, I guess I'd better bring my wallet then." He said before quickly jumping out of the car. 4:23 P.M. York Annual Spring Carnival Mulder waited out side of the car before Scully finally decided to get out. She wore a sullen look. "I can't believe I'm letting you talk me into this." She said giving him a stern look. "I can't believe we've never done this before." He said amusing himself more than Scully. "Yeah, usually we go ghostbusting, or mutant hunting, or search for aliens, or." "I get the point." He said, and started walking towards the carnival's entrance. After they had paid to enter the carnival, Mulder practically raced over to the ticket counter. Once they had obtained their tickets, Mulder looked around in awe. He looked like a kid in a candy store. He didn't know what ride to ride first. Scully pulled up the rear, and placed a hand on the small of his back. She expected him to jump or turn around, but he only took it from his back and clasped hers in his own. She had a pang of intuition to pull away, that she was to close, but she was weary. She was tired, tired from the long haul, from the past day, tired from the past seven years. So she didn't. He walked with her slowly through the brightly colored lights. By now it had begun to get dark and the carnival was now brightly lit and bustling with people. Mulder pulled out a string of tickets that must have been six feet long. "What do you want to do first Scully?" "Mulder, as much as I'd like to, I can't act like I'm sixteen today. This is a new suit and I'm NOT ruining it, this time. I've already spent too much money on clothes since I've been working with you and." "Scully, in all due respect. Shut up. You're ruining the moment." With that she did shut up and followed him, she would always follow him, and she hated it. He walked with her through the groups of people, the children and the concession stands, staring at everything. "So, what first Scully?" he asked squeezing her hand. "Nothing Mulder, you're going on your own." She said, shaking her head. He stood for a moment, contemplating just how to get her on the tilt-a-whirl. He went with the most forward approach he could think of. "How about the tilt-a-whirl Scully? It's harmless, and it's not too exciting." He looked down at her expectantly, half hoping that she would reject him and so that he could badger her some more. He loved to see her get flustered. ".Alright." she finally huffed and pulled him by his hand into the short line. He smiled into her hair as he pulled her close. "Thank you." He whispered down into her ear and then straightened back up. They waited for a brief time and then were admitted, handing the Carny eight little green stubs. They chose a cart toward the back of the ride. They sat and pulled the bar down into their laps to secure it. She sat toward the right side of the cart and he scooted over next to her. "Mulder, you're going to crush me." She said. "I won't, I promise." He replied as he slipped his arm delicately around her shoulders. The ride began, and about two seconds into it, the cart was spinning out of control. She laughed. She laughed a genuine laugh, and he looked at her amused by the sound and by the fact that she had let go of that little piece of happiness. He was experiencing happiness with her, and he was overwhelmed. He was overwhelmed at the fact of how good it felt to be happy with her. He squeezed her a bit tighter and she looked up at him, her crystal blue eyes shining in the fading sunlight. When the ride had finally stopped Scully slowly made her way out of the car. She walked toward the exit looking to the entire world as if she had just come from a kegger party. Mulder on the other hand seemed perfectly fine. "That was fun, what should we go on next? Ooooo I know let's ride the thunderbolt!" Mulder grabbed Scully's arm and pulled her towards the thunderbolt. "Mulder I don't think I want to go on this ride." "Ah, come on, you're an FBI agent, how can you be afraid of a little carnival ride?" "Mulder I'm not even gonna go into the reports of carnival rides on awry." "Good lets go." He said happily and dragged her up the stairs, handed the Carny six tickets and gently pushed her into one of the swinging cars. "See we even get to listen to music as we ride." Said Mulder cheerily and pulled the bar down. "Yeah, and then when we get thrown from the car at least it will be to the wonderful tunes of today's `hip' music" "Geez, Scully, you don't have to be so morbid, I'm sure nothing will happen." Suddenly the car started moving forward and Scully hung on for dear life. The ride picked up speed and the car started swinging violently. Scully gripped the bar with every ounce of strength she could muster. Mulder was smiling and laughing, and had his arms over his head and were waving them around like crazy. She chuckled at him and went back to being thoroughly terrified. The ride slowed down and Scully let out a relieved sigh. Just as she was beginning to regain her composure the ride started to spin backwards. She closed her eyes and began to feel nauseous. Her mind wet back to the memories of her chemotherapy sessions and how ill she had felt after them. She didn't want to feel like that again. Just as she was about to voice her opinion, Mulder sensed her fear and once again put her arm around her. She was comforted a bit. After four excruciating minutes, the ride came to a halt and they exited the ride. She was dizzy, quite actually and she wanted nothing more to sit down and relax. Preferably in her own motel room. She sat down on a bench and closed her eyes. She sat for quite awhile before opening her eyes to find a large pink cloud in front of her. "Cotton candy Scully?" Mulder asked plopping down on the bench next to her and taking a very large bite. It melted in his mouth. She took a piece of the sugary confection and popped it into her mouth. "Mulder, I don't mean to ruin the night, which I must admit has been.fun.but I really don't feel up to it now." She said, pushing a tuft of gold-red hair put of her eyes. "Aww, come on Scully. We haven't gone on the Zipper, or the Skymaster or," she cut him off, "Mulder, please, can we just go?" "Scully. fine but we should at least go on the Ferris wheel. It's a beautiful night and." He trailed off into nothingness, leaving the rest up to her. "Fine Mulder, just the Ferris wheel and then I go and have a bath." "Hmmm," he replied "That's sounds promising." "Alone Mulder. I will be bathing ALONE." "Fine, Scully. But I can be quite fun in the bath. Playing with the rubber ducky." "Let's.just...go on the the Ferris wheel before I have an aneurysm." He once again took her hand and they set out to find the Ferris wheel. Once they did, they stood in a long line, but they didn't mind. It was so beautiful out, that the people in line just stood enjoying the great Maine atmosphere. After ten minutes of waiting the duo got a car. It wasn't a traditional Ferris wheel. It was one with the big carts that fit eight people. But it was only the two of them, in a very large cart. Mulder really didn't need to be that close to her. He had excuse before, being in such close proximity on the previous rides. The night was clear and breezy and the wind caressed her hair and brought it in front of her face. She looked up over the edge of the seat and over the crystal ocean. It was beautiful. A beautiful starry Maine night. This time before Mulder acted he asked her permission first. "Scully, can I um.can I." he trailed off intending to drop the inquiry until Scully snuggled up next to him and settled down, content not having to fight with her consciousness telling her that this was wrong. She really didn't want to care. And she didn't, and having an epiphany she did something totally unexpected. She screamed. A free scream, followed by a fit of giggles and her shaking the cart. Mulder was thoroughly confused by her current behavior. Then Mulder had a revelation. She was allowing herself to be free. Free of her binding thoughts and opinions. She was being her true self. And he loved it. He loved her. He tried to feel surprised as her thought of himself loving her, but he didn't. Their souls had long since fused and they were one. He placed his hands on her hips and pulled her to him in one swift motion. She sat lightly on his lap and placed her lips delicately on his. She smiled around his mouth. She was glad she had let herself go free. And so was he. TA DA! It's my (our first) piece of posted fan-fic. I'm so happy. Pure crap, I must admit, I guess I suck at this. But if you reply to me I might not jump off this building. "What do you mean I have to do another autopsy? And why do I have to do it right now? I just spent hours on my feet doing and autopsy. All for you, I do it all for you Mulder. You know I haven't even eaten since six o'clock this morning and all that was was half of a cream cheese bagel and it wasn't even real cream cheese, it was light cream cheese. And now you want me to run out and do another autopsy? What the hell happened to you?" Scully in "Bad Blood" Merci beaucoup! Leslie and Amanda
