The Beatles Files: "Golden Slumbers" by Christina Shuy cshuy@netcom.com The first day of school would be in the morning. Dana Scully went to check up on her children. As she passed the door to her daughter's room, she could hear her husband with their daughter, singing the usual lullaby he sang when she couldn't sleep, she went to the next room. She found her son with the light still on. "You, young man, have an early day tomorrow." "Mommy... I can't sleep." "First day of school tomorrow. Why am I not surprised." She smiled at him, tucking him a bit more securely. "David, what do you want me to do?" "Sing to me... the way Daddy usually does... with both me and Michelle." "I'll do my best." she smiled, taking a breath before starting. She had a song already in mind. "Once there was a way to get back homeward Once there was a way to get back home Sleep pretty darling do not cry And I will sing a lullabye Golden slumbers fill your eyes Smiles awake you when you rise Sleep pretty darling do not cry And I will sing a lullabye Once there was a way to get back homeward Once there was a way to get back home Sleep pretty darling do not cry And I will sing a lullabye" David's eyes were starting to glaze over when Dana heard the door creak and click shut. He smiled drowsily at the new arrival in his room but didn't say anything. "Want me to help you with the next part of the song?" Mulder's voice was low and warm in her ear. She nodded. He sat down on the bed and began to sing. -the end of this part- Check our new domain names! http://www.netforward.com v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v Disclaimer: Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, the X-Files, and associated characters are property of David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Chris Carter, Ten-Thirteen Productions and Fox Broadcasting Corporation. Spoilers: Season 1: Shadows Note: This is a direct sequel to "Golden Slumbers" The Beatles Files: "Carry That Weight" by Christina Shuy cshuy@netcom.com "Want me to help you with the next part of it?" Mulder's voice was low and warm in her ear. She nodded. He sat down on the bed and began to sing. Their voices harmonised sweetly. Apparently Mulder had heard what Scully had been singing and knew the natural progression from the songs on the CD. "Boy, you gotta carry that weight Carry that weight a long time Boy, you gotta carry that weight Carry that weight a long time I never give you my pillow I only send you my invitation And in the middle of the celebrations I break down Boy, you gotta carry that weight Carry that weight a long time Boy, you gotta carry that weight Carry that weight a long time" Before they could proceed any farther, they glanced towards their son and noticed he was asleep. Both smiled and then got up to leave the room, Dana stopping to dim the lights. "Michelle asleep too?" she asked after they'd quietly stepped back into the living room. Mulder nodded. "It only took the usual lullaby to put her to sleep." Dana smiled. "Always works like a charm." "C'mon. We've got work to do. Skinner's gonna have our butts if we don't finish this report, even if we *do* have agents working under us now." "You always know how to brighten an evening, Mulder." she smiled at him. "Do you believe in an afterlife?" It was an old question. "I'd settle for a life in this one." "Agent Scully, I do believe you've got it." Mulder grinned at his wife, who playfully swiped and deliberately missed him. They got to work. -the end...-
