Summary: Dana Scully catches her mother doing something silly. The Beatles Files: "Maggie Mae" by Christina Shuy cshuy@netcom.com Dana Scully was sitting in her mother's living room. She was taking a few days off to rest after a case, and Mulder had been ordered into a consult with Violent Crimes by Skinner, though they could both tell that he wasn't the one pulling the strings. Regardless, Mulder wasn't there, and Scully was a little worried about him. Profiling always took a lot of energy out of him. "Oh dirty Maggie Mae they have taken her away And she never walk down Lime Street any more" Dana blinked, listening to the words. It wasn't so much the words as it was the fact that it seemed to be her mother's voice singing them! "Oh the judge he guilty found her For robbing a homeward bounder That dirty no good robbin' Maggie Mae" The voice had continued singing, and Dana went back into Special Agent mode, but only slightly. She had to see what exactly was going on in the kitchen. Silently, she crept closer, still listening to the singer. "To the port of Liverpool They returned me to Two pounds ten a week, that was my pay" "Mom?" Dana set foot in the kitchen, and there was a loud metallic *clang* as Maggie Scully dropped the pan she had been washing. "Dana, you scared me half to death!" she exclaimed, breathlessly. "Were you singing, Mom?" Dana looked at her mother with high amusement, already knowing the answer to the question she had posed. Her mother blushed. "Yes, I guess I was." "'Dirty Maggie Mae'?" Dana's eyebrow climbed into her hair, though at the same time, she was trying her best not to laugh. "I am now, Dana." her mother grinned back at her, holding out her hands before rinsing them off in the flow of water from the faucet. "But why that song?" Dana was really curious now. "Because that was a joke between your father and I. Maggie Mae was a term of endearment, and, well... one of the times I went to pick him up from the ship, that was what he was singing and he explained that though it made him miss me even more, it also helped him get through the trip before he could come home." Dana smiled. She missed her father, but was glad her mother was sharing a memory like that with her. The tea kettle whistled and Dana turned to get it. "Tea's ready. Come and sit down and we can catch up on things." she grinned at her mother. They both grabbed mugs and then sat down to talk. -End- "The Truth is Out There.
