GEORGETOWN
FEBRUARY !4, 1995
6:10 p.m.

Dana Scully had just kicked off her shoes and set down her purse
and coat when there was a knock at her apartment door. When she
opened it, there was a florist's delivery man holding a bouquet
of a dozen red roses and baby's breath with some fern fronds.

"I didn't order any flowers," she declared. "And I'm not seeing
anyone."

"Well, they're yours. Happy Valentine's Day. I've got twelve
more deliveries to make, so good night, Ma'am."

So, she set the flowers in a vase, wondering where the flowers
had come from. Certainly not Tom Colton, and there was no
one in her life then. Where was the card? There was no card!
This had to be a prank or some form of mischief. Maybe one of
the men they'd arrested was bothering her.

As she thought over what she'd make for dinner, she decided
to call Mulder. Maybe he could help her figure this one out.
Her mother was vacationing and couldn't be reached. This was
most certainly a bit scary, but she had her FBI credentials
and felt rather ashamed she could be feeling stalked. A
secret admirer? Huh!

"Mulder."

"Hey, uh, something odd just happened, Mulder. I have these
flowers with no card. The just arrived. I'm not involved
with anybody. Is there anyone in our previous cases who could
be stalking me, I wonder."

Mulder laughed. "No, Scully. They're all put away. Couldn't
be any slimy monsters or freaks of nature. They only like
each other."

"That's not funny Mulder."

"Well, in that case, why don't we grab some dinner somewhere
and try to figure it out. I'm tired of pizza and Chinese Food.
Sounds like you need some peace of mind after all we've been
through." Of course, she couldn't possibly know what he was
REALLY thinking.

Scully thought it over.

"Well Scully?"

"Okay. I should freshen up. See you in about half an hour
Mulder?"

"Make it an hour. I need to wash up and do a couple of things.
Why, you could even put on a nice dress!" He smirked.

"Oh, all right. By the way, I forgot to wish you a Happy
Valentine's Day at work. I was so involved in writing up
the Percival case."

"Well, you're forgiven. Happy Valentine's Day to you, too.
See you in an hour. The kettle's boiling."

"Okay. An hour."

                                 ***

About an hour later, both agents were actually dressed quite
well for two people who usually doffed their good clothes
after a hard day's work. As Scully got into the car, she
couldn't hold back her curiosity. After all, she was hungry.
"So where are we off to, Mulder?"

"You'll see. Let's just say it's no 'Papa Joe's.'" He smiled
rather smugly, and tried not to give anything away.

"Oh." Now Scully was racking her brain looking for some
explanation as to Mulder's behavior. If this was another
case, this time SHE'D ditch HIM!

*Aw, she's getting suspicious,* Mulder was beginning to think.

They pulled into the parking lot of a very fancy restaurant:
"Pasta Delights."

"Mulderrr... you got some 'splainin' to do. Big time."

Mulder ignored that and opened the car door for his partner.
"Let's get in there. I've got a reservation booked."

"I've got reservations myself," Scully replied.

When they sat down to dinner and menus were brought to their
table, Mulder worked up the courage to explain what was
happening. "We're celebrating the fact you got flowers today.
In fact, I sent the flowers. You deserve a good Valentine's
Day because you've been such a good Fibbie Agent."

Scully suddenly felt warm all over. "Mulder, I never expected
ANYTHING like this from you. Thank you so much. I don't know
what more I can say." She felt kind of sheepish. "Happy
Valentine's Day, Mulder."

"Happy Valentine's Day, Scully."

Mulder smiled. "Don't say anything. Just have a great dinner,
no shop talk, then I'll take you home to stop and smell the
roses. And in case you're wondering if there's any other
reason I did all this, it's because my Mom told me to. She
thinks you're the salt of the earth. So do I."

Suddenly, "I Wanna Take Forever Tonight" was playing in the
background.
