Thanks! ***************************** Because You Loved Me By Stephanie Jewell ***************************** They had only been back for two months, and already Mrs. Scully had welcomed him back into the family. This was how he had gotten where he was today. Painting a huge deck in the sweltering heat. But then again, Scully was doing it with him. So, who was he to complain? After re-joining the Bureau, their relationship had been growing slowly but steadily more secure and close knit. They just had to be very discreet. They were both afraid of the pain of rejection; therefore it was slow going. A movie one night, dinner another. And an odd painting job here in there. He sighed. He knew that it would probably be a good idea if he paid attention to what he was painting. He guessed it didn't matter, it was only a deck. He was ready to regress back into his thoughts when he felt a warm body behind him. "Mulder?!" Scully screeched enraged. "You painted us in! Aargghhhh!!!" "What did you say?" Mulder asked confused. "I knew it! I knew it! We should've gone to that stupid communication conference when we had the chance. But no, you said that we could already communicate. That we communicated so well that we could ditch the conference and chase mothmen! Well, Mr. We-Can-Communicate-look at our painting job. Being the genius that you are, You must have been aware that both painters can't paint from the outside in. How the heck did you do that? You were supposed to paint in the other direction. Now we're stuck here in the heat for I don't know how long. Well, what do you have to say for yourself, Mulder?" "Well-I was-" he sighed. "I was daydreaming. About us." Scully's face visibly softened, and she patted a spot of wood next to her. "Sit down. Look, I'm sorry for yelling. I guess that if I had been paying attention, this never would have happened. It's not your fault. So, what specifically were you thinking about?" "How much I missed you," Mulder grinned, pulling her over against him. "That's a good start," she murmured giving him a kiss. "Mulder, about our relationship-" "That's under your control. You're the one leading on that. Whatever you feel comfortable with." "I know. That's what I wanted to talk to you about-" "You want to break it off?" I asked worriedly. Scully meant the world to him, but if she wasn't happy he wasn't going to be the one to stand in her way of the pursuit of happiness, even if that meant leaving him. "No, no," she assured me. "Never that. I just want to go up a notch. Right now, we're just a little above best friends. Very good best friends. I just want a little more than that, that's all." "I couldn't have said it better myself. Do you know what I missed about you most of all?" "What?" "You like Celine Dion right?" "Yeah-" "Well, then listen to your radio at seven, okay?" "Okay. Any special reason?" "You'll see," he answered cryptically. "You'll see." * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Scully turned on the radio. There were only two more minutes until seven. She was pretty sure that Mulder planned to dedicate a song. Hmmm-should she do one herself? She didn't know. Well, what was there to lose? What should she dedicate? She decided to wait and see. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Mulder sat on his sofa, anxiously awaiting the start of the dedication hour. After a few songs had been announced, he finally heard his. "Well, here's Fox's song to Dana. Here's `Because You Loved Me'. Enjoy." Scully sat forward eagerly. She had heard the song a few times before, but had never really listened to the words. For all those times you stood by me For all the truth that you made me see For all the joy you brought to my life For all the wrong that you made right For every dream you made come true For all the love I found in you I'll be forever thankful baby You're the one who held me up Never let me fall You're the one who saw me through Through it all Scully smiled through her tears. This had to describe their relationship to a point. No matter what happened they were always there for each other. Protecting them and believing in them. They were the saviors. The other half of the soul. Mulder certainly had changed her life, for the good and the bad. They showed each other new things every time they were together. You were my strength when I was weak You were my voice when I couldn't speak You were my eyes when I couldn't see You saw the best there was in me Lifted me up when I couldn't reach You gave me faith `coz you believed I'm everything I am Because you loved me It seemed that while Mulder had no faith, that he always got his strength from knowing that she would be there helping him. That she believed in him had always been enough to keep up his quest. As long as she was there. For, only someone that knew him as good as he did, could know who he was. And of what a special person he was inside. To everybody else he was spooky and weird. But to her he was Mulder, unique in his own way. You gave me wings and made me fly You touched my hand I could touch the sky I lost my faith, you gave it back to me You said no star was out of reach You stood by me and I stood tall I had your love I had it all I'm grateful for each day you gave me Maybe I don't know much But I know this much is true I was blessed because I was loved by you She remembered the day that she realized that Mulder had lost faith in the truth and in his beliefs. That had been a dark day indeed. That's what she had relied on, whether he knew that or not. To know that he had lost faith had been scary. Eventually, she had helped him to get it back, and it gave her happiness to know that he was back. That he once more had the courage to go on. To know that he could succeed at anything and that nothing could stop him. You were always there for me The tender wind that carried me A light in the dark shining your love into my life You've been my inspiration Through the lies you were the truth My world is a better place because of you Scully's tears increased at this, for she knew that this came from his heart. To know that she was this important to him gave her great joy. To know that she affected him so greatly. Suddenly she knew what she had to do. She'd heard enough. She had to return the compliment. She quickly dialed the station and waited for an answering voice. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Mulder sighed. The only downside of the radio was that he had no clue if Scully had heard it. And if she did, how was he to know how he felt? It was so frustrating. Should he go over, phone, sit at home and ponder the solution for the next eight hours? He relaxed back in the sofa. He'd figure it out somehow. "Now this is interesting. Whoever Fox is, he's one lucky man. This is dedicated from Dana to Fox. Here's `Come On Over Here' by Toni Braxton." Where do you go when You need good lovin' And how will you know if Love is very hard to find How do you say That you need it everyday Well if you look my way You won't be wastin' time Just come on over here And I will take care Of your every need Cause-- Mulder quickly turned the radio off, grabbed his keys, and raced off to his car. He could take a hint. And he especially liked the one that Scully had sent him. He jumped in the car and quickly turned on the radio. -- you've been through so much Don't you think it's time To give it up You deserve love The way I do And how I see it It's you for me and me for you Just come on over here And I will take care of your every need `Cause I've got love to give to you Just come on over here And don't you worry dear `Cause I've got more I've got more than you know what to do with Mulder grinned. As dense as he could be, there was a certain limit, and even he could take a hint. He accelerated the car. He didn't want to be late for his own private party. Now would he? He quickly pulled up at Scully's apartment building and quickly rushed upstairs. Scully answered the door immediately. "Mulder, I wasn't sure if you would figure ou--," she started. His head swooped down to hers, silencing her with an everlasting kiss and evaporating all of their questions and worries forever. Or at least for the night. ***************************** End of 1/1 ***************************** So what do you think? Bad, good? neither? same routine... sculder77@hotmail.com .
