Anyway, on with the show... The plane ride was hell for Scully, sitting there alone, the only thoughts in her head those of the man she'd left behind. Mostly she'd just stared out of the window her thoughts drifting over all of the moments she shared with Mulder over the past 5 years. When the flight attendant had brought their meals, Scully just picked at hers, pushed it around the tray until it was nothing but a cold mush. Finally the pilot had come over the tannoy announcing that they were ready to land and 30 minutes later Scully was standing in the baggage claim area, Her bags, luckily, had been among the first ones to appear on the carousel and now she was making her way into the arrivals lounge where her younger brother would be waiting for her. The crowds in the arrival lounge seemed bigger than usual - she was having a hard time locating her brother. Suddenly the screech of, "Aunt Dana!!!" could be heard and she whipped around to the sight of her youngest nephew, Sam, heading towards her at full speed. She dropped her luggage and crouched down to meet the six year old with a big hug. "Sam!" she exclaimed, "look how much you've grown!" "Dad says I've grown a whole 3 inches since you last saw me!" Scully giggled at the matter of fact way her nephew stated this. "Speaking, of your Dad, where is he?" she asked, looking around. "Right here, Day" said a voice she'd longed to hear all day. She raised her eyes and there, standing above her was Charlie. She rose to her feet and embraced her younger brother. "Charlie!" she whispered and felt her voice begin to break, "oh, Charlie, I miss him so much and we've only been apart 3 hours. How am I going to cope?" Charlie hugged his sister close and whispered, "Hey, it'll be alright sis, I promise. You will get through this. I know how you feel about Mulder and if he feels the same then you've got nothing to worry about. Your relationship is strong enough to survive this." Scully smiled "now come on, lets get you and your luggage to the car and then we can get you home and I can show you your room." He put his arm round his sister and led her out of the airport to the waiting car, where her sister in law and other two nephews were waiting. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Special Agent Fox Mulder, sat alone on his couch in his darkened apartment, bouncing a basketball off the opposite wall, much to the chagrin of his neighbours. He'd sat like this since he'd waved his partner onto her plane 5 hours ago. He just didn't have the motivation to move, to do anything, not even the Lone Gunmen's offer of cheese steaks and the latest conspiracy theories on the assassination of JFK had sparked a reaction. he mused Suddenly the phone rang; he wasn't in the mood for speaking to anyone ao let the machine pick up. "Hi you've reached Fox Mulder, I'm not here right now so leave a message after the beep....BEEP!! Suddenly the voice he so desperately wanted to hear filled his apartment "Mulder, it's me, erm, I was hoping you'd be home. I..er... "I'm here Scully, I'm here." "Hi, were you screening your calls?" "Yeh," he reluctantly admitted, "I didn't wanna talk to anybody but you." "Oh Mulder! I miss you so much!" "I know Scully, I miss you too. But we'll see each other soon. IN fact the first weekend we've both got free, I'll come up, okay? "Yeh, that sounds good Mulder!" "It's a date! So tell me, how are you settling in?" Scully proceeded to fill him in about the flight, and about the house. She told him how her nephews had chattered non-stop from the moment she got into the car, it seemed they wanted her to know every little thing about their lives, and in turn they wanted to know every thing about hers. Mulder had chuckled at this, imagining a very frazzled Dana Scully getting out of the car to try and find some peace and quiet. "They must have really missed you?" "Yeh, they've told me that about 20 times, each, since I touched down here." Mulder smiled, at least she had people there who loved her, he heard voices in the background and he heard a very exasperated Scully mutter, "In a minute, Josh" "Everything okay there, Scully?" he questioned. "Yeh, the boys have just been mithering me to play with them ever since we pulled into the driveway." "You should go Scully, indulge them - the novelty will wear off in a couple of days. Enjoy it while you can. I'll be okay and I'll speak to you soon" "Tonight, Mulder, I'll call you before I go to bed. I love you." "I love you too, Scully" and he hung up the phone. He decided to pay Mrs Scully a surprise visit, to see how she was holding up, after all he did promise Scully he'd look out for her mother. He looked mournfully at the photo of him and Scully that sat upon his desk, and smiled. He knew it would be hard, but he also knew he had to look forward to the times when he did connect with her in some way. He looked forward to the phone call that would come later and he made a mental note to arrange a weekend off as soon as possible. He had to see her! The end for now - next chapter, their first weekend. Let me know what you thought - daruth@hotmail.co.uk
