Summary: Their first weekend together after the reassignment Disclaimer: The characters used in this story aren't mine. They are the property of Fox television and 1013 productions. I'm using them without permission but I'm not making any money of it. You could sue me but you wouldn't get much considering the fact that I am a student. Author's Note: I was going to put the entire weekend in one chapter, but I started writing and it became apparent very quickly that if I did that then this was going to be a mammoth chapter. So, I decided to split the weekend into 3 chapters - one for each day. The other days aren't actually written yet, but I have some ideas of what I want to happen. Also, I decided to do some research for this chapter and I discovered, to my luck, that there is actually a Naval base in Connecticut (yay!) It's in a city called Groton, so I did a bit of research into that city and it seems like a nice place. Anyway, I'm rambling now, so I'll shut up and let you get on with reading the chapter... Friday: 14.45 Special Agent Dana Scully sat at her desk writing up the field report from her last case. Or at least that was what she was supposed to be doing; her fingers hadn't touched the keyboard in the last ten minutes, a fact that didn't go unnoticed by her new partner, Agent Joe Driscoll. "Is everything okay Dana?" he asked, his voice breaking her from her daydream. "Huh...erm, yeh, I'm fine" she replied "You just seem a little distant, that's all. Man trouble?" Scully opened her mouth to answer but didn't get the chance to speak "I hope not," a voice said from the doorway. Scully knew the voice instantly and whipped around to face the door "Mulder!" she cried and was out of her chair and into his arms before Agent Driscoll had even registered the other man's presence. "Hey Scully, pleased to see me?" he smiled as he returned her hug "Yes, and a little surprised too. What are you doing here? Why didn't you tell me you were coming? Is something wrong? Has something happened?" She looked at him with concern. Mulder giggled, "Talk about an interrogation, Scully." Scully raised her eyebrow "Okay, okay, I'll answer your question. I'm here to see you, I didn't tell you because I wanted it to be a surprise, no, nothing is wrong and no, nothing has happened except the fact that I missed you like crazy these last three weeks." "I missed you too Mulder." "So any chance I can spring you from this place early today?" Mulder asked with a mischievous glint in his eye. "I'm not sure, Mulder, I'm in the middle of writing up the report from our last case." Agent Driscoll thought now would be a good time to remind his partner of his presence, "That's okay Dana, you head off, I'll finish the report. To be fair, it's not like your heart was really in it today anyway." He extended a hand towards Mulder, "Hi, I'm Joe, Joe Driscoll" Scully suddenly realised that she had been too caught up in Mulder's sudden appearance that she hadn't introduced her new partner. "Oh, sorry Mulder, this is my partner, Special Agent Driscoll. Joe, this is Agent Mulder from Washington. The men shook hands, although Mulder seemed a little reluctant. Agent Driscoll spoke once again, "Go, Dana, I'll finish up here," "Thanks Joe" she said as Mulder helped her on with her coat, "I'll see you Monday." "Yes you will" he replied. As he watched his partner walk out of the office he marvelled at how happy she seemed; he hadn't seen her smile like that since he'd been partnered with her three weeks ago. It was amazing the effect that love could have. --------------------------------------------------------- As they walked out for the FBI field office, Mulder's hand found its place on the small of Scully's back just as it had always done. "So, nice office, Scully. Certainly better than the basement." "I don't know about that, Mulder. Anyway it's not my office; it's Agent Driscoll's." "Ah yes, Agent Driscoll. What's he like as a partner?" "He's a good agent Mulder, and we get on okay." She sensed Mulder's discomfort and stopped on the sidewalk, "but it's nothing on our partnership Mulder." "He calls you Dana" "Yes, he does." "You never let me call you Dana," Mulder said, looking at the floor. Scully could see where this was going, she put her hand under his chin and lifted his head so he could see her face, she wanted, no she needed him to be looking at her when she said this. "To be fair Mulder, you never tried to call me Dana, but you know I never wanted you too. Calling each other by our last names....I don't know, it became something special, something for just the two of us. On my first day Agent Driscoll called me "Scully" and it didn't feel right, so I asked him if he'd mind us using our first names." "Oh," replied Mulder sheepishly. "Mulder, you have no reason to be jealous of Agent Driscoll, he's in his fifties, he's been happily married for 30 years and has 2 great kids, and besides, I love you." "I love you too, Scully. And I'm sorry I was such an ass. It's just being apart from you make me feel insecure: I don't want to lose you." "You won't Mulder. I promise. Now come on, I'm going to let you buy me a late lunch." Scully smiled as she took Mulder by the hand and led him to her favourite restaurant. --------------------------------------------------------- 20.17 Scully pulled into the drive of her brother's house hoping that there would be no-one at home. Unfortunately this was not the case, the lights were on and Scully could see her brother through the window. He waved and came to the front door to meet her. "Hey Day, where've you been? We've been waiting for you before we eat - we're getting pizza." Scully stepped into the warmth of the house. "Not for me thanks, I'm not stopping actually. I just came to pick up my overnight bag and then I'm off for the weekend." "Oh, you never mentioned anything when you left this morning" "It was kind of a last minute thing, I only really decided about a half hour ago." Charlie was confused; it wasn't like his sister to be that impulsive, usually things had to be planned about 6 months in advance. "So, going anywhere nice?" he asked hoping for some inclination as to what had gotten into her "I don't know, actually. Mulder's organising everything. I'm just under orders to pack enough to cover every eventuality." "Mulder's here?" he asked shocked, if Mulder was coming then he would've known, because Dana wouldn't have been able to stop talking about him "Yeah, he showed up out of the blue at my office this afternoon. He managed to get a weekend off and decided to surprise me." "Cool, so when are we going to meet him?" "I don't know Charlie, I honestly have no clue as to what he's got planned for us this weekend; I don't know if we'll have the time." "It's ok sis, I understand: you don't wanna share him, you wanna spend every waking moment of this weekend alone with him before he has to go back to Washington. I get it, I do; I'd just like to meet the guy. I'm sick and tired of listening to Bill call him all the names under the sun: I'd like the opportunity to form my own opinion." Scully smiled, her brother knew her too well, far too well. "We'll see Charlie, we'll see," she appeased, walking past him to the stairs, "Now, I've gotta go change and pack, and you have pizza to order." He smiled, it wasn't often he saw that big a smile on his sister's face. He was beginning to like Mr Mulder already. --------------------------------------------------------- Scully came down the stairs 20 minutes later all packed and ready to go. Her brother was play-wrestling with her middle nephew, Carl, on the floor of the front room. At present Charlie was pinned to the floor and Carl had launched a full scale tickle attack on him. Scully laughed, "Carl, you might want to go easy on him, he's not a young man anymore!" The 10 year old giggled and released his Dad, who was struggling to catch his breath. "Hey, watch it Day, remember you're older than me." Scully smiled, she loved winding her brother up, it was just like old times. "Looks like you're going to get your wish, Charlie. Mulder just called me on my cell; he's on his way to pick me up. He didn't see the point in us taking two cars to wherever it is we're going." "He's still not told you?" Charlie questioned. His sister always hated surprises, she mithered and mithered every Christmas when they were teenagers to try and find out what was in the boxes under the tree. "No, he's very resistant to my mithering," she replied with a smile, "much to my annoyance." Charlie smiled, and then noticed the state of his living room. There were toys and cushions strewn all over the floor as well as dirty glasses on the coffee table. "Boys, get this place tidied up please, we're having a visitor." "Who?" asked Sam, excitedly, as his brothers began to do as their Father had asked. "Aunt Dana's friend Mr Mulder, from Washington, is in town for a few days and he's coming to meet us. And I don't really want him walking into the living room looking like a bomb has hit it. So start tidying please. "Charlie, it's okay, really, Mulder won't mind - you should see the state of his apartment. It was a constant mess. Charlie opened his mouth, but the doorbell silenced his argument. Scully's eyes brightened, "That'll be Mulder, I'll go" she said the excitement evident in her voice. She opened the door to find Mulder stood there with a stupid grin on his face. "Hey Scully." "Hi Mulder, come on in." She held her hand out for him to take, which he did and she pulled him inside. He leaned down and placed his lips upon hers, kissing her lightly. "I've missed you Scully" "We've only been apart an hour!" "An hour is a long time without you, Scully!" He leaned in to kiss her again, but this time she pulled his face down and kissed him harder than before, the passion that had built up over the last three weeks desperate to escape. They kissed for what seemed like hours, only stopping when they heard someone clear their throat behind them. They looked up to find Charlie smirking at them. Scully blushed crimson and Mulder tried to look everywhere but at his partner's younger brother. "Charlie....erm, Charlie this is Mulder, Mulder this is my younger brother Charlie." Charlie extended his hand to Mulder. Mulder shook it but was still avoiding eye contact with the man, "Relax, Mr Mulder, I'm not Bill! If you and my sister want to make out in the hallway then who am I to stop you? Seriously though, I have no problem with you, I mean I don't know you. I like to get to know someone before I form opinions of them, unlike my numbskull of an older brother." This made Mulder relax a little and he finally looked Charlie in the eyes and found that they weren't full of hatred and disgust, but were warm and welcoming. Mulder was completely and relaxed now. "Well it's nice to meet you at last Charlie. I was beginning to think Dana here had just invented a younger brother, so she didn't have to be the baby of the family." "Sorry to disappoint you Mulder. Now I'll just say goodbye to the boys and we can be off." She took Mulder by the hand and dragged him into the living room, where the boys had abandoned their tidying in favour of watching The Simpsons. "Boys, this is my friend Mr Mulder, Mulder this is Sam, he's 6 he's the youngest, this is Carl he's 10 and this is Josh, he's 13. "Hi," Mulder offered, I'm sorry I'm stealing your Aunt Dana for the weekend, you don't mind, do you?" "Nah, course not," said Josh, "we know how much Aunt Dana has been missing you." Scully blushed and threw an evil glare at Josh. Mulder just smiled. He took Scully's hand and they turned to walk out, but were stopped by Sam, "Awww! You're not going are you, you only just got here! It's not fair; I want Mr Mulder to play with me." "I'm sorry mate but we do have to go, but I tell you what, why don't I speak to your dad and maybe we can arrange something for tomorrow or Sunday?" Sam looked a little happier at this prospect but still wasn't 100% sure. "I s'pose" "I think that's a great idea," said Charlie, "in fact, if it doesn't interfere with your plans too much, why don't you come for dinner on Sunday afternoon. That way, you can play with Sam, we can get to know one another a little better and you can meet my wife, Rena. She's out with friends tonight, she'll be sorry she missed you." Mulder looked at Scully to see what she thought of the idea, "I think it's a great idea Charlie, unless you had over thing planned Mulder." "No, it's fine, in fact I'm actually looking forward to it." "That's settled then, now off you two go. I think we've kept you long enough." --------------------------------------------------------- 21.40 When Mulder pulled the car into the Marriot hotel Scully was astonished, "Mulder?" she questioned "We're staying here Scully, I want to see where you're living now and I want to do the touristy thing with you here, and I wanted to have the opportunity to spend time with your family, if I was invited to." "We'll you could've stayed at my brother's house" "At the time of organising this weekend I honestly didn't know if I'd be welcome, I wasn't sure if Charlie thought the same way as Bill, so I booked a room here." Mulder thought the conversation was getting a little too depressing so decided to try and lighten the mood, "plus, I don't think I would've felt comfortable doing all the things I want to do to you while in your brother's house," he said, while waggling his eyebrows. Scully laughed "No, I don't think I'd have felt too comfortable either Mulder. But why the Marriott, I mean it must be costing you a fortune." "Because, we stay in enough grubby motels with work and I want this weekend to be special Scully. You deserve it." "Oh Mulder," "Now, lets get moving Scully, I wanna see our room." They walked into the gorgeous reception area and it took Scully's breath away. She'd never been anywhere this posh in her entire life. She was sure she stuck out like a sore thumb in her jeans and tee-shirt. She admired the art on the walls and looked at the pamphlets detailing all the facilities the hotel offered, such as the pool and the spa. She hadn't realised how long she'd been standing there until Mulder came up behind her and dangled a key in front of her face. "We're in room 1013, let's go" Scully was still speechless, and but she soon found her voice when they got to their room "Mulder it's gorgeous," she said, amazed. Mulder hadn't just reserved a room; he'd reserved an entire suite, complete with living room, dining are, bedroom and bathroom. Like the reception area, it was posher than anywhere Scully had ever stayed before. The living room had a flat screen television and a huge couch, the dining area had space to seat 6, comfortably, the bathroom had the biggest jacuzzi-bath tub Scully had ever seen and the bedroom was extremely spacious complete with a king size bed. "Mulder, what on earth possessed you to book us an entire suite?" "I told you Scully, it's no more than you deserve." She took his hand and led him in to the bedroom and wrapped her arms around his neck, "It's not that Mulder," she said in a sultry voice that Mulder was sure he'd never heard her use before, "I just don't see us having time to use everything provided in this suite, 'cos I don't know about you but I was planning on spending the majority of this weekend in bed." And with that she pulled his head down to hers and their lips met in a passionate kiss as Mulder pushed her down onto the bed.... And I'm gonna leave the next bit to your imaginations.
