She slowly turned her face from the computer screen to look at him. -I was just wondering... Mulder hesitated a moment as he felt the intense of her blue eyes on his skin. -What? She demanded and arched an eyebrow. -I was just wondering, what would you say if I asked you out for dinner? -Like a business dinner or a date dinner? -More like a date dinner, if you want to know, he said and lowered his eyes. -Then I think I'd say yes, but you've never asked me. -OK, Dana Scully, would you do me the honour to let me take you to dinner tonight? -I'd love to, she said, smiling at him when he finally looked her in the eyes. -I'll pick you up at 7.30? -Sure . Where are we going? -Why do you want to know? Mulder asked playfully. I intended to keep it a secret. -I just want to know what I should wear. -Something beautiful, Mulder decided and rose. He grabbed his coat as he continued: -See you at 7.30 then? -Settled. Scully turned off her computer and looked at her watch. 5.06. She had less than two hours and 30 minutes to get home and get ready. Scully smiled as she walked towards the elevator. This was so un-Mulder! Then she shook her head. When wasn't Mulder un-Mulder? He just kept on surprising her more and more for every day. Anyway, it would be nice to get out for dinner tonight, even if he didn't remember... When Mulder got home, he went straight to the shower. He had a shave and spent almost 45 minutes to decide what to wear. Finally, he put on a dark suit and a matching tie, which Scully had given him one day when she was tired of his usually disgusting ties. He called to order a table and even remember to wrap his gift for Scully in blue paper and tie it with silver strings. Mulder looked at his watch and decided it was time to go. Scully opened the door only to find a Mulder unable to speak for a couple of moments. He just looked at her in her full-length blue velvet dress. It made her eyes sparkle even more than they used to. Her make-up was perfect and her hair was in a complicated coiffure. When he finally walked into her apartment he was able to speak again and said: -Wow! You're stunning! I've never seen anything or anyone as beautiful as you in my whole life! Really. Unable to face him, Scully blushed slightly. -Thank you, she said silently. Mulder lifted her chin up so he could have a good look at her face, and then he said: -It suits you. -What? -Blushing. You should allow yourself to do so more often. He gently kissed her cheek and helped her with her coat. They walked down the hallway in silence and get out to Mulder's car on the street. -So where are we going? Scully asked curiously. -Surprise, Mulder answered and pulled the car out of the parking lot End of part one Part two After a lovely dinner at an Italian restaurant, Mulder went to go get something from his overcoat. As he returned, Scully saw a small package in his hand. He sat down and gave it to her as he said: -Happy Birthday, Gorgeous! Or, actually, Happy Birthday five times and Merry Christmas four times. Sully felt tears form in her eyes, but she didn't bother. The only thing she could do right now was to look at this wonderful, gorgeous, beautiful man opposite her. -Thanks, she whispered. -Sorry to miss it all the other times. -That's OK, really. Scully took the card out of its envelope and slowly read it.: Dear Dana, Happy Birthday! I just want you to know I meant every word I said out in the hallway. Thanks for being there for me all the time! May I have this dance? Lots of love, Fox. She smiled through her tears and said: -Certainly. But I want to open my gift first. -You're allowed to do so, Mulder said. Scully unwrapped the little box and opened it as well. Inside it, lying soft upon cotton, there were two dark blue stones made to earrings. -Oh, my God! she gasped. Are these...? -Sapphires. -They're beautiful! -Don't forget that it's nine gifts in one time. -I wont. -Good. Scully attached the earrings to her ears. They matched her dress and eyes perfectly. Mulder slowly rose and held out his hand to her as another song came up. Scully smiled at him and took his offered hand and allowed him to pull her to her feet. He smiled gently at her and took her in his arms. Eyes locked they danced tightly with each other. After a while, Mulder put both his arms around Scully as she rested her head against his chest. They danced together like that for what seemed like a lifetime until the song was over. Then, for the first time in a couple of minutes, Scully lifted her head to look at him. -Thanks for the dance, she whispered, still locked in Mulder's arms. -You're welcome, Mulder said and kissed her gently on the lips before gently unwrapping his arms from the petit woman. As they sat down at their table again, Scully said: -I want to go home now. I'm a bit tired. -Sure, I'm just going to pay for this and then I'll help you get a cab. -Mulder, I can get my own cab, I'm a big girl, remember? -OK, them I'll just keep you company 'till the cab arrives. -Thanks. Scully shuttered as they came out of the warm restaurant. Mulder saw it and said: -Are you cold? -I'm fine, Mulder. -Here, take my coat too. -Mulder... Mulder wrapped Scully in his coat and didn't say another word. Scully felt its warmth and didn't complain, although she felt a bit guilty about steeling Mulder's clothes. When a cab finally stopped in front of them, Scully didn't enter it. Instead, she looked at Mulder and said: -Can't you come with me? I don't feel like being alone right now. Not tonight. -Sure, Mulder said and climbed in the vehicle together with his partner. She smiled at him and then they sat in silence all the way to her apartment in Georgetown. Mulder paid for the taxi, though Scully protested until she remembered she left her wallet at home when she left earlier. They walked together up to the front door of Scully's building. Mulder held the door open for her as she picked her keys out of her purse. Scully unlocked the door and Mulder stepped inside. He helped Scully with both his coat and her. She walked towards the kitchen and said: -Want some wine? -Yeah, thanks, Mulder answered and sat down on the couch. -Red or white? -Your decision. The phone rang while Scully was still out in the kitchen and she yelled: -Mulder, please answer! Mulder took the receiver and spoke into it: -Hello? Oh, hi Mrs. Scully. Yes, she's here. Of course, hold on a moment. Bye Mrs. Scully. -Dana, your Mom! Scully came out of the kitchen with two glasses and a bottle of red wine. Mulder handed her the receiver and took the glasses out of her hand. She put the wine bottle down on the table and spoke: -Hi Mom. Thanks. No, he took me out to dinner. Yes, it was nice. Mom! Stop that! No, we're not! OK, thanks for calling. I love you too. Bye Mom. She hung up and looked at Mulder who was pouring out the wine. He didn't look at her at first, and when he finally did, she arched an eyebrow and said in a puzzled tone: -Dana? -You know, you have a beautiful name. I like calling you by that. -I like hearing it too, Scully admitted. Her given name came out in such a wonderful tone from her partner's mouth. -Fine, then I'll call you Dana from now on. -Only of I get to call you Fox. -Dana, you are the only one I want to call me by my given name. -Done. -Good. Dana took the glass Fox offered her and sat down on the couch beside him as he said: -You have any good CD? -Pick your choice. As Fox rose to get a CD, he slowly said: -So, what aren't we? -A dating couple. Mom can't get out of her mind that we're madly in love with each other and should get involved right now. Fox turned around and softly asked: -Wanna dance? -Here? -Yeah, here. Dana suddenly found herself in the strong arms of her partner and best friend. They moved slowly to the rhythm of the music. They danced close together and after a while Fox gently said: -Do you know what you've done, Dana? -What? -You've stolen my heart. Margaret is at least half right; I love you. You stole my heart almost six years ago that very first time you walked into the office. -No. -Huh? -She's not half right. She's all right. -You're saying- -I love you, Fox William Mulder. Fox looked deep into her eyes as she spoke and Dana had a feeling that she'd eventually end up drowning in those gorgeous hazel eyes of his. As their lips met in their very first Kiss, they both felt like coming home. It was as if they were two halves, eventually joined to one whole part, as they were meant to be. They never stopped dancing, not even when Fox cupped his hands around Dana's face. They let the kiss deepen, their tongues plying with each other and exploring the other's mouth. Then Dana pulled back and broke the kiss, gasping for air. She looked at Fox and saw tears form in his eyes and falling down his cheeks, the same tears as she felt on her own cheeks falling from her eyes. -Happy birthday, Gorgeous! Fox smiled through his tears. Tears of pure happiness, just like Dana's. The End So, what do you think?? This is my first fan-fic ever, so I'd love feed back. But, hey, be kind considering I'm Swedish and I don't usually write or talk in English. bialakamiena@hotmail.com
