E-mail address: MonroeBelle@excite.com, RapunzelInTheTower@talk21.com Disclaimer: All together now, children: I do not own Mulder, Scully or any other X-Files characters. They belong to CC, 1013, and FOX. I am using them (just for fun) completely without permission, and no money is changing hands. Now leave me alone! You're not gettin nuthin' from me; not this time. Nope, no, no. "BREAKING THE SILENCE" Tonight is their first night (*alone*) together since he returned. They leave the hospital hand in hand, Mulder smiling gently as his fingers come into contact with (*the Tiffany ring he bought years ago sparkling on the third finger of*) Scully's left hand. The wind blows around them (*like lost souls in the bowels of Heaven*) and he wraps his arms protectively around her (*them*) on the way to the car. By the time they arrive at Scully's apartment (*have to get a new place soon - somewhere bigger, with a garden*) they still have not exchanged a word. Mulder puts on gentle music, murmuring quietly in the background, but then turns it off, prefering that they listen to the newborn (*pregnant*) thunderstorm outside instead. Scully bustles (*motherly*) around preparing a simple pasta dish. She had wanted to look nice for Mulder tonight, to dress up, but all her clothes are just that bit too tight now. She w ears a pair of old sweatpants and one of Mulder's shirts (*some of the most beautiful poetry ever written is blank verse*). He comes up behind her and encircles her (*their baby*) with his arms, muscular still despite his long stay in hospital. He kisses her neck and she pretends not to notice (*but he's here, he's really back*) as she stirs the sauce. Scully sits down on the couch and Mulder sits on the floor next to her. She feeds him some pasta and he eats like a good boy (*son?*). When he's finished, Mulder begins to feed Scully and when they're both done, they leave the plates on the coffee table a nd Mulder rests his head on Scully's lap, listening equally for her heartbeat and their baby's. Scully's hand plays gently in Mulder's hair (*scared to let go*), and soon he turns his face inwards to kiss her swollen stomach. He pushes the shirt, kissing her bare skin, naked flesh on flesh, knowing how imperceptibly thin is the barrier between his lips and their child. Their love-making is slow and gentle, possibly the most exquisitely delicate feelings either of them has ever experienced. Hours later, they lie naked in bed together. Mulder is spooned around Scully, his hands resting (*as always*) on the gentle lump of life contained within her body. Breaking the night-long silence, Scully whispers, "I forgot to tell you I love you," as she falls asleep. Mulder smiles into her hair and closes his eyes. Outside, the thunder rolls softly and easily through the night sky (*sounds like something remembering something*). FIN If you stand out in the rain long enough, you will eventually see the rainbow.
