Title: Close Encounters
This is all a bit insane, and out of character,
and silly. so be warned...
Fox Mulder slowly turned the handle on the door and tried
it. It slid round and tried it. It slid round and he pushed
the door open. Now what kind of person would leave their
door unlocked in Chicago? With his gun in hand, he pushed
the door wide open and held up the gun.
"This is the FBI!" he said loudly.
His answer was a grunt. He beckoned for his accomplice, a
new Agent, Meg Thatcher to follow him. His old partner, Dana
Scully, had been assigned as Agent Ford^Òs partner. He was
the most incompetent Agent in the Bureau. He kept his job by
doing as little as was possible to close a case and only
wanted the credit. After Fox and Dana had screwed up one
little case, they had been permanently removed from The X
Files and reassigned to new partners, in Chicago.
Mulder reached the bed and told its occupant^Å
"You^Òre under arrest."
"Very funny, Ray." He said, rolled over and went back to
sleep.
"Let me handle this!" Meg said.
Fox stared at her with admiration and moved out of the way
to let her past. She was exquisite. Her long, almost black
hair was tied back in a long plat that reached half way down
her back. She looked so delicate^Å
"OY, YOU!" she yelled. The man in bed did not respond.
"Grrrrr!" Meg growled and pushed over the bed.
"Ouch," came the reply from under the bed. Mulder was about
to protest but one glance from Meg and he shut his mouth and
silently tipped the bed off their villain.
"Bentley Fisher, you are under arrest." He told him. The man
looked slightly dazed.
"Who are you?" he asked.
"I^Òm Special Agent Mulder and this is Agent Da...>sniff< Meg
Thatcher. You are under the arrest for the murder of
Detective Ray Vecchio."
Fraser^Òs heart sank.
"Ray?" he said weakly. He paused, "Hey, my name^Òs not
Bentley Fisher."
"heh heh. Whatever you say."
"But it isn^Òt, I^Òm Constable Benton Fraser of the RCMP."
"Sure you are."
Mulder glanced at Meg for her approval. She nodded, pleased
and Mulder grinned, happily. He dragged Fraser to his feet
and cuffed his hands behind his back.
"Hey, I^Òm only wearing boxers and a t-shirt." Protested
Fraser but it fell on deaf ears. Mulder ignored him and
smiled dopily to Meg who said, "Lets go, honey." At Mulder
smiled even more.
She then put her arm around Fraser and stared hypnotically
into his eyes. Fraser shuffled uncomfortably and averted his
gaze. Meg glared. "Take him to the car." She ordered sharply
and marched off.
"Now look what you^Òve gone and done," Mulder whined.
Fraser looked disapprovingly at his bare feet and scant
clothing. How had he got himself into this mess?
Meg and Fox brought Fraser to an interrogation room and
cuffed him to a chair.
"This isn^Òt standard procedure!" Fraser complained.
Meg looked into Mulder^Òs eyes hypnotically which set
Fraser^Òs brain working. She^Òd done it to him earlier and one
off in a huff when he hadn^Òt responded, which wasn^Òt a
problem for her in Mulder^Òs case.
"Neither is this!" Mulder told him and punched him in the
eye. Fraser struggled with his cuffs but they were locked
tight. His eye began to throb. Mulder looked down at his
clenched fist, a shocked expression on his face. Meg looked
at him and he smiled. "See you tomorrow, Fisher." He said.
Fraser decided to ignore his mistake. "What^Òs your name,
ma^Òam, if you don^Òt mind me asking?" Fraser asked.
"Meg, Meg Thatcher." She told him.
It sounded familiar^Åno it didn^Òt.
"Oh, I^Òve never heard that name before. Have you Mulder?"
"No, Fisher, I haven^Òt. Strange, eh, Fisher?"
"I have never heard that unusual, uncommon name before in my
whole entire life. To be quite honest, it^Òs not the name of
my superior officer. You, Mulder?"
"No. I agree. Mine neither. That name is both unusual and
uncommon. I^Òve never come across it before. Where did you
get your unusual, uncommon name from, Meg?"
"My parents." She told them.
"Your parents?" Fraser said, surprised. "Did you hear that,
Mulder? She got her name from her parents! What an unusual,
uncommon way to receive a name. Don^Òt you think, Mulder?"
"Oh, yes. I agree. That is an unusual, uncom^Å"
"Erm, let^Òs go, shall we?" Meg interupted.
"Yes. Let^Òs." Mulder agreed. Meg smiled and closed the door
behind them. The lights clicked off. Fraser sighed and then
yawned. He was knackered. What had all that been about,
anyway? He tried to think of the possibilities but closed
his eyes and drifted off to sleep.
The next morning he was awoken by the heavy door being
unlocked. He looked around to see the time but there was no
clock. The Agent who came in looked surprised to see him
there.
"What are you doing here?" she asked him.
"My name^Òs Bentley Fisher^ÅI mean, er, Benton Fraser."
"You don^Òt sound so sure, Bentley."
"It^Òs Benton. And I was arrested last night by Agents Mulder
and Thatcher. Apparently, I murdered my best friend. I doubt
very much he is even dead, to be quite honest."
She nodded, sympathetically. "Agent Berlin Hedgerisk."
"That^Òs a nice, common, name."
"Why, thank you Bentley." She said and began to walk towards
the door. Before she exited, she turned around.
"Hang a minute. We have no Thatcher here," she said and shut
the door.
"Hey, you can^Òt just leave me here!" cried Fraser. He could
kill for a cup of tea. But she had already gone so he amused
himself by trying to count the chain links on his cuffs.
to be continued in part 2/3.
CLOSE ENCOUNTERS 2/3
That night, Mulder and Thatcher returned. This time they
brought along three more people.
"Hello, I am Agent Dana Scully and this is my partner, Agent
Drizzy Fraud." She said, pointing to Agent Ford. Fraser
grinned. For once he was pleased to see him.
"Agent Ford! Tell these people that this is all a big
mistake!" pleaded Fraser.
"Who are you? I have never seen you before in my life. My
name is Drizzy Fraud."
"I^Òm Benton Fraser. Remember the musical ride? Ray and I
saved Illinois"
"No, I do not. Illinois? Now you^Òre making places up" Ford
told him.
"But you^Òre in Illinois!"
"Yeah, right, Fisher. If that really is your name." Ford was
visibly offended.
Fraser decided to give up. "Can I have a cup of tea,
please?" he asked.
"Sure," said Scully and she tipped a cup of tea onto
Fraser^Òs lap. She began to laugh hysterically. Meg looked at
Mulder and he began to laugh too. They all began to laugh,
except Fraser who frowned and moved his legs about to ease
the pain.
"Oh," said Scully, wiping the tears from her eyes. "Bring on
the first witness, Fraud."
Ford shouted, "I call on the first witness, Ray Vecchio."
Ford opened the door and in walked Ray.
"Your witness is the person I^Òm supposed to have killed?"
Fraser asked in disbelief.
"Well, he obviously saw you!" said Ford.
"This is impossible. How can he testify if he^Òs dead?"
Meg frowned. "Now you^Òre criticising the deceased?" demanded
Ford.
Fraser was getting angry by now. "What the hell is going on
here? If this is supposed to be a joke or something, it^Òs
not funny."
Meg scowled. He was certainly cleverer than he looked. Damn.
"Everybody OUT!" she screamed. Everyone crept out except
Fraser and Mulder, whos gaze was transfixed on Meg. The door
shut quietly.
"All right. What is it?" she demanded.
"Well," Fraser began. "I believe that you are controlling
people^Òs mind in order to gain, er, something and are angry
because your hypnotic powers have no influence over me so
you are "punishing" me by doing this."
"Very good, Mr Fisher. But that^Òs not entirely true. I am an
extra terrestrial from a far away planet and my hobby is to
collect aliens. I chose law enforcement officers as they
exist on every planet. I have to replace them as not to
arouse any suspicion. That^Òs why I used Mulder to find out
about you."
"Oh," said Fraser, trying to take all of this in. Mulder was
still staring, gob-smacked at her.
"Oh, well. Back to the ship." Meg announced. She uncuffed
Fraser and they walked to where she had parked the ship. It
looked just like a red 1971 Buick Riviera. Mulder followed
them like a mindless zombie. They got in and Meg locked
herself out.
"They^Òd better get used to it. They^Òre going to be in there
for a long time. Ha Ha Ha Ha!" Meg cackled.
Mulder blinked hard and opened his eyes. Fraser looked
around. The ship defied the laws of^Åsomething. It was at
least 10 times as big on the inside as it was on the
outside. Fraser deduced that the Riv was just a disguise and
that the actual ship was under the ground. Ray, Scully and
the real Meg ran over to greet them.
"Scully!" Mulder exclaimed.
"Ray!" said Fraser, happily.
"Fraser!" said Ray and Meg.
"Inspector," said Fraser.
"Actually, I^Òm Danish Scilly," said Scully. "I^Òm the
replacement. The real Scully will be brought here soon and I
will replace her, giving me the chance to study life on
different planets and hopefully find a relative of mine."
Mulder smiled slightly, in recognition of the dream. Fraser
was confused and he wrinkled his brow.
"But she pored a cup of tea on me!"
Mulder nodded. "Sounds like Scully to me."
"huh." Said Fraser. Oh, well. "We need a way to escape."
"How about the door?" Ray suggested.
"That is an excellent idea, detective. What a brilliant idea
of yours. Wouldn^Òt you say so, Fisher?"
"Fraser. But yes, I have to agree. That is an excellent and
brilliant idea, Ray. Wouldn^Òt you agree, Mulder?"
"Yes, I would Fisher. It certainly is an excellent idea. How
did you think of it, Detective?"
"Because doors are usually the way to go out?" Ray tried.
"Not that Fraser would understand that."
"Doors, the way to get out? What an unusual uncommon idea!
Wouldn^Òt you agree, Fisher, that that is an unusual,
uncommon idea?"
"No." Fraser said, sulkily, "The idea is perfectly
plausible."
Ray and Meg listened to their conversation and glanced at
eachother. Ray shrugged. "That alien womans probably done
something to their brains." Meg suggested. Ray nodded. That
would explain the "Fisher" thing too. He opened the door and
everyone climbed out.
"What about Agent Ford?" Meg said, suddenly. "I knocked him
out earlier."
"Leave him," Mulder insisted, "he^Òs the most incompetant
Agent in the Bureau."
Fraser nodded. He was pleased to see that Agent Mulder was
acting more normal now. Just then, the alien Meg Thatcher
appeared with the real Agent Scully.
CLOSE ENCOUNTERS 3/3
Mulder, Ray and Meg immediately pulled out their guns.
"Stop right there!" yelled Ray.
Alien-Meg began to reach for her gun but Ray, Meg and Fox
were too quick. She dropped, dead? To the floor. The second
her body hit the floor it began to decompose until allthat
was left was a pile of ashes.
"It^Òs like the whole decomposition of a body over a period
of a million years in 5 seconds," Scully said, fascinated.
Ray grinned and Fraser smiled back. It was over^Åwasn^Òt it?
It had all seemed too easy^Å
That night Fraser lay and thought about the past few days
when an Inuit girl ran into his apartment. He sat up.
"I need your help, Bentley." She told him.
Fraser looked into her eyes, searchingly and felt his head
fog over. She^Òd caught him off guard. "Meg Thatcher" was
back and he was under her power. "I^Òll get my revenge on you
for foiling my plans." Fraser groaned. Why did he always get
the blame?
Fraser wandered out of his apartment, out of West Racine and
towards the police station. 27th District to be exact. He
began to kick down the door. A man in a store, nearby phoned
the police and told them that some mountie was breaking into
their building. The person on the other end of the line
thanked him and quickly called Ray Vecchio.
Soon Ray arrived in the Buick. He sighed when he saw what
Fraser was doing. The mounte was nuts. Fraser spun around
and pulled out a gun, aiming it at Ray.
"RUN!" he yelled to Ray but Ray stayed where he was. If
Fraser could do this, so could he.
"You know, the inuit believe that, er, um..." Ray began
Just as he was about to pull the trigger, a floodlight came
on and Fraser dropped the gun. Alien-Meg^Òs screams could be
heard from nowhere in particular. Then Mulder and Scully
came out from a building acorss the street.
"How did you know what to do?" Fraser asked.
"Well, we did a lab test on that disintegrated Meg
character^Å"
"At 3 in the morning?" Ray was surprised.
"^Åyes. We determined that the cause of death was exposure to
light. Even though she was shot. Rather like a vampire."
"No, vampires die from exposure to sunlight," Scully said
rather defensively.
"Calm down, Scully. It^Òs not as if you^Òre a vampire." Mulder
laughed.
"No, er, of course not." She replied.
"Anyway, thank you kindly," fraser told them.
"Anytime!"
"Come on Benny, I^Òll give you a lift home." offered Ray.
"Thanks, Ray."
"I thought your name was Bentley," Mulder said, confused.
"No, it^Òs Benton Fraser." Fraser told him.
"Benton Fraser. That is a nice, common name, isn^Òt it
Fraser?"
"Yes," agreed Fraser, "I agree. Benton Fraser is a nice,
common name. I^Òm glad it belongs to me^Å"
"Frasier?"
"Yes, Ray?"
"Shut up."
"Understood."
With that, Ray and Fraser drove off, leaving Mulder and
Scully outside the police station.
"What was that all about?" Mulder wondered. "Hey, maybe it^Òs
related to super natural^Å"
"Spooky,"
"Yes Scully?"
"There^Òs a perfectly rational and scientific explanation for
this. Meg was just a psychopathic hypnotist and you know
it."
"Understood." Mulder said but began to explore the
possibilities in his own mind.
"Fox," Scully pondered, "now that is a nice, unusual,
uncommon name!"
