He got up from the couch and approached the window. He saw her standing there under the lightend street lamp. Somehow he knew, she would end up her tonight after the day's events. She knew he was watching her. She didn't even have to look up. She could feel him staring at her through the window. She had to come here. To see him one last time. She knew that if he left, this will be end of everything. She knew that there was a chance that she would likely never see him again. He met at her door. Opening it before she even had a chance to even knock. She raised an eye brow at him, giving him a classic 'her trade mark'. "Call it sixth sense," he said smiling. "Spooky huh?" wiggling both his eye brows. "Nah" she grinned and gave a little nod. She came in and he quietly closed the door, locking it behind them. She stood there nervously, waiting for him like it was her first time to enter his apartment. He sensed her nervousness as he walked pass by her going to the kitchen. "Have you had anything to eat already?" he asked. "No," shaking her head from left to right. " My last meal was the one we shared together this afternoon." "Do you want something to eat then?" "I'm not really hungry" she said with a small smile. "How about a glass of water?" "I'm fine" He nodded and headed for the bedroom, picking up the scattered newspapers along the way. "Sorry, my house keeper didn't come in yesterday. She was busy ghost busting." he joked. She gave a small chuckle in reply and followed him like a lost puppy being led to it's mother. As they reached the door of his bedroom, he turned to face her. "I'm sorry this had to be done. I am really sorry. But neither of us can't help it" he said gently with his hand on her right cheek. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Leaned into his touch and nodded. When she opened her eyes, one tear fell and her lower lip started to quiver. He squeezed her hand and wiped the tear that fell with his thumb. "Please don't. I don't like to see you cry" he whispered as he led them to the bed. He sat down taking her along him and placed her on his lap. He place her head between the crook of his neck and shoulder. He knew she was trying to to brave. Trying to hold back the tears that were threatening to fall. "Cry for me when I'm gone. I can't bare to see you cry." Then his own vision started to blur. He caressed her hair and whispered words of comfort. God knows they both need it. He held her a bit longer then stood up. He sat her on top of the bed and headed to his closet. He switched on the radio on the way and settled with an oldies station. Barry White's voice started to fill the room. "We got it together didn't we...We got it together baby...My first, my last, my everything. And the answer to, all my dreams...You're my sun, my moon, my guiding star...My kind of wonderful, that's what you are..." He stared swaying from left to right. Emphazing his bottom. Then he turned back to face her and started to sing along. Making a total goof of himself. "I know there's only, only one like you...There's no way they could have made two..You're all I'm living for... You're love I'll keep forever more...You're the first, my last, my everything..." he sang. Trying to lighten up the mood. Inspite the tears she was tried to hold back, she laughed feeling somewhat better. He started to dance pretending he had a partner. He did a few circles then stopped right infront his closet. "Help me pack?" he asked. "I can't seem to fold my shirts correctly. You do them better than me" holding up a dress shirt he tried to fold earlier. "I think you were born to fold shirts" he teased knowing that she was would be alright. Still laughing, she wiped her eyes with the back of her hand and nodded. She reached out under the bed and pulled his overnight bag out. She grabed some of the shirts she found on top of the bed and folded them neatly. Suddenly, she remebered her mother doing this when her father was about to leave for sea. The sadness in her mother's eyes. Now she knew what her mother felt everytime her father left. She would miss him. She told herself that he was just going to be gone for a few days. Just think of it as a case and he needed to be somewhere. They do this all the time. But somehow, she knew in heart that something was wrong. "We do this all time. Think of it as a case" he said as if reading her mind. She nodded and caught the pair of socks he threw at her with one hand. "I'll be back in a day or two. And besides, Skinman's there to watch my ass this time." he said grinning. She grinned and headed for the bathroom to get his toiletries. When she came out, he was already closing the bag. "Wait," she called out. "You're forgetting these" she held up the small bag. He placed the bag infront of him and opened it widely. "And she has the ball with only five seconds remaining in the game! There she is, taking position. Ready to make that three point shot" he said playfully. "Will she makeit in time?" Giggling, she positioned herself by the door ready to make that three point shoot. Throwing it and landed right inside that bag. "And she scores! The crowd goes wild!" She laughed and walk towards him. "You're crazy" she said while ruffling his hair. "But you love me anyway" he answered zipping the bag close and brought it out to the living room. He came back to find her by the window with her back on him, staring at the stars. He walked towards her, wrapping his arms around her waist and placed his chin on top of her right shoulder. She leaned back and let the tears she was trying so hard not to fall flow. He turned her around, gathering her closer trying to make her stop crying. "I said I'll be back. I promise." She snuggled closer shaking her head. "Hey" he said, putting two fingers under her chin, raising her head to meet his eyes. "Look at me" he urged. She closed her eyes knowing that if she did look at him, he would see the pain and fear that would reflect in her eyes. "Open those baby blue eyes." Placing both hands on either sides of her face leaning closer till their foreheads were touching. She opened them and the tears started to flow faster. "Don't cry" whiping the tears with thumbs but they don't seem to want to stop. He hates to see her in such pain. "Tell me what to do to make it stop" he asked knowing what she would answer. She looked at him in the eyes and simply said, "Stay" He closed his eyes and gathered her closer. Placing her head on his chest. "You know I can't. I have to find out what's going on. We're closer than ever. I can---" She place two fingers on his lips. Stopping him. "Stay" she repeated. "We're closer to the truth. This is it. I just know it. I _will_ be back. Trust me on this." "But..." then she cried harder. "I said, I will be back" She knew nothing would be able to change his mind. She felt him lift her up and placed her on top of the bed and pulled the covers up to her shoulders. He then spooned up beside her throwing an arm over her stomach gently. He pulled her closer and started to make tiny circles on her belly. They were silent for while. Neither speaking. The only sound in the room was their breathing and Tony Bennett's voice singing. "Someday, when I'm awfully low...and the world is cold...I will feel a glow just thinking of you...and the way you look tonight..." He started to humm along. Trying to comfort her. "Oh but you're lovely....with your smile so warm...and cheeks so soft...and there is nothing else for me but to love you...just the way you look tonight..." He continued making tiny circles around her belly. He thought she must have fallen asleep until he heard her spoke. "Please stay" she whispered. Bearly audible. "You know very well that I won't go unless it's important. But I have to find out--Don't you see? They're taking abductees." he explained. "And with your condition...I can't risk it..." he trailed off. "But I want you here," she pleaded. "With me." He was at loss for words. He couldn't bare to see her in such pain. "Go to sleep. I'll be right here" was all he could say. "No" she said firmly. "I don't want to for if I close my eyes, tomorrow will come much faster. And for tomorrow, I know you'll be gone" she choked out the words. He remained quiet but pulled her closer and wrapped his arm around her tighter. He was trying to be strong for both of them. But seeing her like this, in pain, he doesn't know how long he can keep up being strong for both of them. -end-
