From: Heather Clark Date: Sun, 17 Jan 1999 13:49:47 -0500 Subject: MSR/ Closest To Heaven Hi. This is my first fan fiction to (Hopefully) hit the web, and (hopefully) you'll like it. Enjoy! Disclaimer: Listen people, as cool as it would be, Mulder, Scully and Jeffery Spender do not belong to me. They belong to Fox Network, 1013, Chris Carter, David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson and other people and cooperations that create "The X-Files". So PLEASE don't sue me. Besides I don't have any money anyway. Keywords: MSR Rating: I'd give it around PG-13ish. Spoilers: "Tringle", "The Ghosts Who Stole Christmas", "Terms of Endearment" and "The Rain King". Summary: After a stressful investigation, Mulder and Scully finally reveal how they truly feel. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ "Closest To Heaven" Hutchison, Connecticut January 25, 1999 11:35pm. EST ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++== "Aw, man. There's nothing on TV tonight." Mulder said to himself, clicking through all the channels of his hotel room television. "I knew I shouldn't have let Scully arrange the rooms for us. SHe forgot to tell the person at the desk to install 'my channel' into my room." He sighed and turned off the TV. He and Scully had just finished a case he found in the trah of one, Special Agent Jeffery Spender. They were investigating a man by the name of John William Peterson, who had the ability to crush the bones in a persons body with out even being anywhere near the victim. It was hell trying to catch the guy. With no fingerprints or hardly any other evidence to pin point the killer, that bastard nearly got away with it all. But thanks to some footprints, a majoy grudge the guy had against Mulder, Scully's gun, a shot in the guy's shoulder and a little thing called "luck", he was finnally arrested after a nice visit to the hospital. Mulder was pretty worn out by now and sought to cool down. Since there wan't anything 'interesting' on the TV, he's have to settle with reading. He'd been wanting to read "Moby Dick" for a while now to see the connections between Scully and Starbuck, Scully's dad and Ahab, himself and Ahab, and the connection between her former dog and whoever the hell Quiqueg was. Meanwhile, Scully was in her own hotel room filling out papters from the case they had just finished. She sat on her bed, papers in her lap and an exhausted look on her face. SHe had been awake for the past 32 hours trying to catch a mass murderer. She was so tired, she thought she might fall asleep right there and then. She leaned back, placed her head on the headboard of the bed and closed her eyes. SHe erased everything from her mind except for one thing...Mulder...Fox Mulder. Then name sang in her head like a thousand angels. He was a gorgeous man...and a lot of it. She loved every aspect of him; physically and phycologically. Any other guy in the world would mearly be a grain of sand, while Mulder was the boulder standing hight above it. She opened her eyes and looked back down at the papers in her lap. "They can wait." she said to herself as she placed the forms on the bedside nightstand. She stood up and streched her arms behind her back. She let a smile curve on the left side of her mouth. She put on her shoes, grabed her coat and headed out the door and into the fresh cold air outside to see Mulder. Outside, Scully stood with a big grin on her face. It was snowing. She remembered the last time she saw snow. It was in Mulder's apartment on Christmas Eve when they exchanged gifts, even though they weren't going to in the first place. She silently laughted to herself as she remembered what it was that Mulder had gotten her. Shaking her head, she stepped up to the door to Mulder's room. Inside, Mulder sat on the bed quietly reading "Moby Dick". He soon realized how incredibaly thirsty he was getting. All this talk about water had gotten to the back of his throat. He got up and headed for the little fridge in his room. He opened it and peered inside. There was then a knock at the door. "Who is it?" asked Mulder peering deeper in to the tiny fridge. "It's me, Mulder." answered a familiar voice. He walked to the door and looked in the peep hole to see Scully's eye looking right back at him. He could tell it was her because only she had eyes that beautifull. "Peek a Boo." Scully joked Mulder chuckled and opened the door for her. As she entered the room, an everlasting light filled not only the room, but his heart as well. Those flowing strands of silky red hair, those full pouting lips, those gorgeous ocean blue eyes and her stunning personality were enough to drive anyone legally insane. He loved her with everything he had, but could only muster up the words to her once when he was in a hospital in Florida after he jumped off a ship missing since 1939 that mysteriously reapeared in the Bremuda Triangle. But when he those words that he had longed to say for 5 long years, Scully acted as if he was being delusional or something. How he longed for her to believe him as he slowly shut the door behind Scully. "Hey, Scully. What's up?" asked Mulder Hi, Mulder. Um..." all of a sudden, she had realized that she had forgoten to create an excuse for her being there. She quickly made up a reason as fast as she could and continued speaking..."I just came over to ask when we're leaving for Washington." "Actually, I don't really know. The time is on the plane tickets...but...I'm not really sure where they are." "You lost the plane tickets?!" asked Scully a bit amiffed, yet a little bit happy about the situation. That means more time with Mulder. Mulder crossed his arms and shrugged. Somehow, Scully could sence that he was lying. She shook her head a bit, and Mulder continued the conversation. "So what are you doing tonight, Dana?" asked Mulder. But he then realized what he had said and smacked himself mentally on the side of the head //What are you thinking man?! You never call her that.// he scolded himself. "Well,...I don't think I'll be doing much tonight considering it's snoing like crazy outside. What about you...Fox?" she smiled as she mocked him. She loved it when he called her by her first name. The way his lips even mouthed it made her swoon. "It's snowing?!" asked Mulder sounding very enthusiastic. He looked out the window to see tons of snow falling from the heavens, white and beautifull. "WOO-HOO!" yelled Mulder. For a second, he sounded like Homer Simpson as he happily flung open the door and ran outside. The snow was thick and cold. He loved it! He picked up some snow and formed it into a big ball, and with a weird cartoony voice, said "So round. So foim. So fully packed." That was when Scully decided to step outside as well, and he flung the snowball at her, hitting her in the head. A loud gasp escaped from her lips as she stood cold and shocked. Mulder laughed at the look of her expression. Scully shrieked at Mulder as she wraped her arms around herself to keep warm. "I'm sorry." Mulder said still laughing "I couldn't help it." Then Scully had an idea. She smiled wickedly and picked up some snow while Mulder was not looking from laughing so much and hid it behind her back. Slowly, she walked up to Mulder, put her mouth close to his ear and whispered "I'll get you back for that, you know?" It gave him goode-bumps as she whispered in his ear and he enjoyed it. She slowly put her arms around his neck (still holding the snowball in her hand) and suddenly shoved it down the back of Mulder shirt. "AAAAH!" He screamed "It's cold! It's COLD!" he shrieked like a little girl as he frantically tried to get the snow out of his shirt. All the while, Scully was laughing hysterically. Finally, Mulder was able to get the snow out of his shirt. He listened to Scully's continual laughter and smiled. He loved that sound and wished he could hear it more often. He looked at her with such love in his eyes, wishing to see the same in her eyes. Scully stopped laughing and looked up at Mulder. They were both getting really cold now. "You know,..." Scully chuckled a bit "Maybe we should go inside now. I'm freezing." "Sure." said Mulder. He put his arm around her to keep her warm as they walked back inside. His strong hand squeezed her shoulder softly and brought her closer to him. She felt so safe in his grasp...like nothing could touch her. They entered Mulder's hotel room and shut the door. He looked at her and laughed to himself when he saw how much snow was still stuck in her hair from the snowball he had hit her with earlier. He gently ran his fingers through her hair to get the snow out. Her hair was now soaking wet and glowed a very deep red. A tiny smile lingered at the edge of her lips. How he wanted to kiss those lips, but she couldn't know how he felt. Never could she know. The rejection...oh the rejection he would endure. //She doesn't love me. If I tell her, she'll be gone from me for good. Remember the last time? She thought you were nuts! But I love her so much. If only I could tell her// he thought to himself. Scully looked at Mulder...she could see the look in his eyes and knew he loved her. His fingers were still combing through her hair. She didn't want his to stop. She wanted to stay with him forever. SHe had to so somehting about it. She needed Mulder to be truly in her life. Not just her work partner, but her partner as well. Mulder had stoped renning his fingers through her hair, but was still looking at her. She took her hand and placed it on his cheek. It was then that Mulder saw "it". The love. She had love in her eyes. He took her hand and squeezed it. He now knew it was safe...safe for him to love. After all these years of lonelyness,he finally realized what it was like to love and be loved. What he had with Diana was nothing compared to this. He put his other hand around her waist, brought her closer and went in search for her inner-most desires through her eyes. He titled his head and placed his lips just barely on hers. "Are you warm now?" he whispered grazing her lips as he spoke, now putting his hands around the back of her neck. "Don't mind me. I'm just checking for any of those frigging bees." she said softly. Scully smiled "I don't think there are any this time. And as for me being warm...Not quite." said Scully. She leaned in closer and closed the gap between their lips. Both hearts beat as one as they explored eachothers lips. Softly as first, but eventually the kiss become much more powerfull and passionate. The 5 years of emotional tension for eachother had finally brocken free from their souls. They continued their kiss until it was suddenly interupted by the ringing of Mulder's cell phone. Mulder's head spun, breaking this seemingly never ending kiss. He turned back to Scully and gazed into her longing eyes. It was like he was reading her thoughts. Every daydream, every fantacy, every longing moment she ever had of him was revealed by just looking into her eyes. With out breaking his gaze (dispite the fact that he always says that he never 'gazes' at Scully), picked up his cell phone and turned it off. Scully smiled and put her arms around him. "I think I'm warm now." she said "I think I am too." said Mulder as he wraped his arms around his one and only love and kissed her on the forehead. He then sat down on his bed, and motioned for her to sit next to him. With a small smile, she sat next to him and embrased him in her arms, as did he. They sat there on the bed in eachother arms, entwined...mind, body and soul. Two halfs that had finally found eachother amungst the evils of the world. Together they shut out these evils and came the closest to heaven either of them had ever been before. There, they slept was the snow fell free like all of the emotions they held back for so long. THE END! Well, there ya have it. My first fan-fic. I hope you all liked it. Thanks for reading!
