Mulder demanded suddenly, his eyes flashing. "Because I can't change you. I tried. I tried so fucking hard, but I can't," she answered, ignoring the shocked look that quickly passed across his face, shock that was no doubtedly surfacing because of the word she had just said. She needed the effect though, she needed to leave. "But you have. You've changed me in so many ways," Mulder replied after the initial shock of hearing her. "You've changed me in ways that I never thought possible. You've made me feel alive again." "You didn't need me to feel that. You need a companion, any companion and you would be happy. You don't need me, you need someone else, someone who can take care of you properly." "Scully, you aren't making sense," Mulder answered, standing up, starting to pace across the room. "Aren't I? It's all going up in smoke, Mulder. I'm no use to you anymore, we need a change." "Shit. You're serious about this aren't you. What the hell did that dipshit Kevin talk into you last night? What the fu-." "Mulder, Kevin didn't influence me in any way. I know you'll always think that though. He only helped me open my eyes." "To see what? Is this about Diana? Help me out here, Scully!" "I'm moving away. With Kevin. To England. He's 36 and he's rich, and I love him, my mom's happy about it." "You've only been with the crackhead for one date, Scully? One shitty date, and now you're talking about moving to England with him?" "Change is good. I needed to take my life into my own hands," Scully said slowly. "Do you honestly believe," Mulder started slowly, "That I'm going to watch you move your little ass out that door even though I know your not coming back?" "Yes," Scully replied. "Yeah, I do, Mulder. You have too much respect for me to hold me back. We're at a crossroads. I'm sorry Mulder, I didn't want it to end this way. It has to though. It's all my fault. It has nothing to do with you, or Kevin or Bill. It has to do with me." "At least give me a reason," Mulder said, narrowing his eyes. "Because, Mulder. Because Kevin made me realize something last night. Something so wrong, something that goes against every fiber of my being, something that has put me so out of character, that my own heart is clouded in mystery, Mulder. All I know, is that I need control again. Leaving here, will give me that control I lost to you. Are those enough reasons for you?" "When are you leaving?" Mulder asked, his eyes with an expression she had never seen before. It was unreadable, and for a moment she realized she was afraid. "Tonight, at 9." "Can I see you off?" "Of course, but I'd rather end things here, Mulder. I want our goodbye to be a good one," Scully answered slowly. "I don't understand. You want to leave... but you don't hate me?" "I don't hate you, Mulder. God, if you only knew," she said, and went towards him. She rested her hands on his shoulders. "I've never hated you and I never will," she said quickly, and kissed him soundly on the lips. The emotions that hit her were enough to make her go drunk. She didn't let go for about twenty seconds, and when she finally did she was panting for breath and so was he. He had kissed her back. So what, it didn't mean anything, she countered. "I love you, Mulder. I love you so damn much. I've gotta go," she said, and bolted towards the door. His hand was too quick for her, and it plastered the door shut. "Mulder," Scully said warningly. "You love me?" Mulder asked, hunger evident in his eyes. "Yeah." "You love me? And not the shithead Kevin?" "I love you." "You love me?" Mulder continued amazed, and Scully wrapped her arms around his waist, her intent not the same as his. His own arms slowly went to her shoulders, and she quickly slipped out of his embrace, and ran out of the room, ignoring the calls of protest that left his mouth. She was out of the building in less than two minutes, Mulder left far behind her. She turned on the car, mission complete, and reversed, turning into the highway. She saw the truck coming straight at her, but it was too late. Someone had pushed something into the back of her neck. She died instantly, with a deathly pale Mulder stopping his car to stare at her limp body. Her life was over. "No," Mulder screamed repeatedly, pulling Scully away from the wreckage, cradling her limp body, realizing he felt something wet his shirt. He pulled her away, instantly aware of the green blood flowing from her shirt. It wasn't her. Or was it? THE END Author's Notes: Yeah, I haven't written for basically all of summer. Ok that's a lie.
