Author's notes: I own none of these characters. We all know who they belong to. And yes, this is my first attempt at MSR, so please be gentile. I needed to get this one out of my system so I can begin a much longer one. Enjoy. Special Agent Dana Scully stared out the window and sighed, wrapping her fingers around her quickly cooling mug of tea. She allowed her eyes to glaze over as she watched the rain hitting the window. What had she done? Earlier that afternoon, she and her partner had participated in an FBI stakeout. Of course, the particular suspect they were following had chosen the forest, of all places, for his deals. So there they were, outfitted in camoflage, hiding in the damp woods. Mulder and Scully were partnered together, as usual. After three hours in the woods, Scully was cold and tired. She glanced at Mulder, her eyes questioning. Mulder immediately picked up on her question. "It's worthless, Scully. Taylor's not gonna come by tonight. Hell, I don't blame him. It's too damn cold to be out here. Yet here we sit." Scully sighed and nodded. So they were thinking alike. "How long you think they'll wait till things get called off?" she asked, rubbing her neck with the back of her hands. "No clue, Scully. But Jackson's determined to get him. We could be out here for hours." He looked at her curiously. "Getting sore?" She nodded. "Mulder, it's cold and wet out here. Not too great on the muscles." He got up from his position and walked nearer to her. Crouching down behind her, he began to gently knead her neck and shoulder muscles. "Better?" Scully let her eyes fall close and smiled as Mulder's hands worked their magic on her. "Mmm, yeah..." Mulder smiled softly and continued his ministrations. After a few minutes, his movements stopped and his hands continued to rest on Scully's arms. Scully didn't comment. She liked his hands on her. If only they could stay like this forever. Suddenly the radio went off. "All agents, stakeout is over. Looks like our suspect stayed home tonight. Don't blame him." Scully turned her head to look at Mulder. He smiled and she smiled back, staring into those adorable grey eyes. Her heart began to beat rapidly and she could feel the color rising to her cheeks. He leaned in gently and she could feel his breath on her neck. Then suddenly, he jumped to his feet. He turned away, and began quickly collecting their supplies. "Well, Scully, looks like we're free to go home. I'll see you tomorrow at the office." Scully stood up in shock. One minute they were inches away from kissing, the next, he was running off. And so here she was, staring out the window. She sipped at her tea, but it had long since cooled. She set the mug on a table and wrapped her white terrycloth robe around her body. "What did I do wrong?" she continued to ask herself over and over again. For a split second, she thought Mulder was going to kiss her. Her dreams would come true. And in that second, her dream came crashing down around her. Scully rubbed her fingers through her hair, sighed, and took her mug into the kitchen, pouring the cold liquid down the drain. She was just about to head into her bedroom when she heard a gentle knock at her door. Securing the rope to her belt, Scully walked to the door and opened it. Standing on her doorstep, looking forlorn and wet, was Fox Mulder. He was dripping all over the hallway. "Mulder," she said in a hushed voice. "Scully, I'm sorry. I.. I don't know what I was thinking. I shouldn't have left you like that. Scully... Dana... I love you." Scully felt her heart flutter. Tears began to well in her eyes. "Mulder," she choked, "I love you. I've always loved you." He stepped forward, sweeping her into his arms, nuzzling her neck. "God, Scully, you feel so good." he mumbled. He pulled away slightly and leaned in to kiss her, tongues prodding and tasting. Scully smiled. This was the way things were supposed to turn out.
