Confessions- The prologue
by Sabrina Hunt

Scully sighed as she practically fell into her apartment, suitcase in
hand. She was pretty much dead on her feet... And she blamed it entirely on
Mulder. The week had started off all right... They'd been doing paperwork,
which was a yawn, but definitely beat trudging around farmers' fields
examining crop circles. She didn't even care to think about how many pairs
of high heels she was going to have to replace... At least two pair were
covered in cow excrement... Never mind the jacket blazer Mulder had put on
the red haired scarecrow as a practical joke... It had been clawed and
crapped upon to death by the very bird it was supposed to be scaring
away... She wished the crows had instead landed upon Lisa Crawford, the
tall, leggy, conveniently red haired woman who had claimed to have seen the
"Craft" as Mulder had taken to calling it. Yes, she was a believer, and no,
she hadn't been on Marijuana at the time of the siting, as most of their
other witnesses had been... And as if being in Nowheresville, USA in an
overcrowded, unsanitary, motel hadn't been enough, Mulder had insisted they
stay and investigate some more. " I'm sure, there's more to discover
here..." He'd said. The way she saw it, the only thing he'd discovered was
Lisa's bra size... And it wasn't her fault she'd been cranky the next day.
It was hard to sleep when the walls were paper thin, and you could hear
everything going on in the rooms next to yours... She couldn't be positive,
but she was fairly sure those indiscreet noises had been coming from
Mulder's room... So it really hadn't been her fault when she'd refused to
ride with Lisa and Mulder to the crime scene, the next day. After they'd
arrived at the field, late, she almost wished she had been with them. At
least then Mulder would have stayed in line... And she could have avoided
Mulder's grilling about what she'd discovered during the hour it had taken
him and Lisa to change a " flat tire ". When she'd said that she hadn't
found anything paranormal, and that she was going back to the motel, all
hell had broken loose. She didn't think they'd exchanged so many harsh
words and insults since their case in Comity... Only this time, they hadn't
been so sublime. They'd been spat straight into each others faces...
Scully threw her suitcase unto her bed and marched into the bathroom,
twisting the knobs of her bathtub. Tonight, she was going to take a nice,
warm bath, and forget about Mulder, and all the stupid women who threw
themselves at his feet... Turning around to exit the small room, she caught
her reflection in the mirror. She was a mess. No wonder Mulder wasn't
attracted to her...
<< Whoa! Dana! Where did that come from ?!? >> A small voice inside her
asked. Another side of her answered.
<< You fool. You're in love with him, and you don't even know it! >>
Scully shook her head. She was most certainly NOT in love with Mulder. She
hated Mulder...
	<< No you don't, you're just jealous, because he doesn't notice you...>>
She stripped out of her smelly clothes, and ran a brush through her hair.
Lisa's shade hadn't even been real. It was a chemical combination, sold in
a bottle.
Scully let her body slide into the warm water, and relaxed almost
instantly. Maybe she would take the day off tomorrow, let Mulder squirm for
a while... She smiled at the idea of him trying to explain her absence to
Skinner....
" I'm sorry sir, I have no idea why she isn't here today..."
" Well, can you please hand in the paperwork you two had due..."
" Umm... No, I can't... Sir.... Scully... did it all..."
She smiled more broadly. Maybe that's what she'd do... Maybe she would
shred all the work she'd done for him...

**************************************************************************

Mulder drove down the highway, staring at the bleak landscape. he sighed.
Car rides were boring without someone to talk to... He thought about his
partner. He really hadn't meant to hurt her, but her comment about him and
Lisa being late had really angered him. What exactly did she think they'd
done ? Had a party in the back seat, like two teenagers, then arrived late
? He was surprised by how little she seemed to know about that side of him.
Yes, he had acted in much the same way, in Comity, but that really hadn't
been his fault. It had been a bad day in the stars. Didn't she know he
wouldn't just drop his pants for anyone ? But then again, how would she
know ? They never really talked. She never really got the chance to learn
more about his personal side... And he wondered why they never did anything
together outside of work. Maybe then she'd realize that he never thought
about anyone but her anymore. And he didn't mean only a physical level. On
an emotional level. All the women he met dimmed in comparison to Scully.
She was smart, funny, sexy...
<< SEXY! Where the hell did that come from ?!?>> His mind asked.
<< You hate Scully, remember. Her and her stupid scientific=
 explanations...>>
Mulder shook his head. He just wished she wouldn't be so stubborn... Then
he wouldn't end up getting angry at her, and saying things he wished he
hadn't.
He pulled up out front of her apartment. He could see lights on inside. At
least he knew she was home. Whether she would let him in or not, though,
was a whole other matter entirely. he'd said some pretty nasty things. He
was going to have to apologize. He hated apologizing... Maybe he'd call her
and see how mad she was first...

**************************************************************************

Scully turned her radio down, as she went to answer her phone.
<< Hmm, Who could it possibly be ?!?>> She asked herself sarcastically.
She was about to pick up when she realized, she didn't have to answer=
 him...
" Hi, I can't come to the phone right now, but if you leave your name and
number, I'll get back to you..."
" Hi Scully. Please pick up..." There was a pause.
	Scully crossed her arms.
" Scully ? I know you're mad at me right now..."
	Scully snorted.
"... Yup. You probably came home and ran a hot bath..."
	<< Good guess...>>
" ... And listened to the radio, or classical music, depending on how mad
you are, and soaked..."
<< Damn lucky for you it was only radio...>>
" ...Then got into your gray flannel pajamas..."
<< How did he know I owned these ?>>
"... And you were just about to make a cup of coffee, while you ate a
spoon full of peanut butter..."
Scully looked at the dirty utensil in her hand, then picked up.
	" You're a damn good guesser, Mulder."
Mulder smiled into the receiver. " Can I come over ?"
Scully put her hand on her forehead, beginning to pace. " Mulder, I just
got cleaned up and relaxed... I really don't..."
He cut her off. " Just to talk Scully. I don't want to fight..."
Scully sighed, and opened the her door, not surprised to find Mulder
already standing there. She hung up.
	He smiled sheepishly. " Hi..."
She really didn't look pleased to see him. her hair was tousled, and hung,
still wet, in her eyes, her pajamas hung off of her like a little girl
wearing her Dad's shirt and pants. She had red rims around her eyes, from
fatigue. And yet, she still managed to look good to him. " Come in, if you
want..." She said, stepping back, to allow him passage.
Mulder slowly entered, and took off his coat. However, he made no move to
come any further into her home. He stuck his hands in his jeans pockets.
	" Look, Scully. I won't be long. I can see you're tired..."
<< Stupid! Now she's gonna think you think she's ugly! >> His mind=
 screeched.
" No that came out wrong... I can see you're tired of me... I just wanted
to apologize for earlier..."
She just watched him with a cynical gaze.
" I got carried away, and I'm sorry..."
And the funny thing was, that Mulder hadn't minded saying the "sorry" word
as much as he usually did. In fact, it felt rather good, to have that off
his chest...
Scully turned and went into the kitchen, without saying a word. He stayed
at her front door. For a few minutes, all was quiet, and then she called
from the kitchen. " Mulder, you can come in..."
He quietly shuffled into her apartment. As he waited for something to
happen, he silently took in the colors and themes of decoration, in her
home. He'd never really noticed them before... He found they reminded him a
lot of her... Which was logical... " Scully, did you do your own decorating=
 ?"
Her head appeared from around the corner of the door frame. " Yes... Yes I
did. Why ?" She disappeared again, waiting for an answer. She came out of
the kitchen a moment later, two coffees in hand, and found Mulder staring
at her walls.
" They don't talk, Mulder..." She said, jokingly, as she handed him a mug.
She then led him into her living room, where they sat, face to face, on her
couch. For a couple minutes, all was silent. Then Mulder put down his
drink, and looked at Scully.
	" I like it..."
She raised her brow, as she took another sip of coffee.
	" Your apartment..."
She lowered her mug, and swallowed. " Mulder, sucking up is not going to
work..."
He smiled, and shook his head, averting his gaze to his hands, for a=
 moment.
" No... I mean it. You did a good job."
She looked at him, wondering why he had decided to tell her that. She knew
they were avoiding the reason for his visit.
" So... Did you find the " Craft" ?" She asked, her tone mocking as she
said the word craft.
	Mulder's jaw tensed. " No..."
Scully tried not to smirk. " Hmmm..." She responded.
" Scully, I'm sorry. I mean it. You know I hate apologizing..."
She nodded, tucking her hair behind her ear, with one hand. She licked her
lips. Then she made eye contact with him. " I know. I'm sorry too.... I
shouldn't have let myself get so angry about..." She hesitated. "... what
you do in your own time..."
They both knew what she was talking about. He looked away, speaking more
to the ceiling, than to her.
" I didn't do anything, if that's what you think..."
	Scully fiddled with her hands.
" You don't have to lie, Mulder. It's really none of my business..."
He turned to look at her. And to his surprise, he found himself reaching
out to touch her chin, to turn her face towards his.
" I'm not lying, Scully. Would I lie to you ?" He asked.
He said those it with so much intensity, she found herself at a loss of
words.
She opened her mouth to speak, several times, then finally managed to
stammer out, " No. No you wouldn't."
Mulder suddenly lost his courage, and dropped his hand, spreading out
across that cushion that lay between them. He examined it, as he went on
very quietly.
" Scully... I wouldn't do that to you... I haven't been with anyone since
you were... taken... Your disappearance was a slap in the face for me..."
" Mulder.. You don't have to be telling me this... I don't own you..." She
said, as she tried to calm her nerves.
" no. you deserve to know... I appreciate you Scully... And you don't
deserve to be treated in the manner in which I treated you today..."
She gave his hand a gentle squeeze. " I don't like it when we fight. We
usually get along so well..."
Mulder nodded in response, and stood up, which surprised her.
" Where are you going ?" She asked.
" Home..." He said. " I think you've had enough of me for one day..."
" Oh..." Scully said, the disappointment in her voice obvious.
" Besides, I still have my half of the paperwork to do..."
	He reached for his jacket.
" It's all done." Scully said, waiting for his reaction. He pulled his
hands back from the coat tree, and instead placed them on his hips.
" Really ?" He asked, facing her.
She smiled, and pointed to a three inch pile of paper on the table, beside
her briefcase. His forehead creased, and his mouth made numerous attempts
to form the right words. " You mean you actually went and did all the work,
by yourself, for me, after I had been such an ass to you ?"
Scully shook her head and smiled. " Don't underestimate what a long boring
flight and an angry person can do. I was finished in an hour."
Mulder's jaw dropped, and he stammered. " Wow, Scully... I don't know what
to say... Thanks just, doesn't seem to cut it..."
She smiled, and returned to the kitchen, her sock feet thumping on the
wood floors. " So, since I saved you so much time and energy... You want to
hang out for a while. We could watch a movie or something...?"
Mulder grinned, breezing into the kitchen. " You never cease to amaze me
Scully..." He said, standing behind her, as he put a hand on her shoulder,
and pulled the box of microwave popcorn she'd been reaching for, off the
shelf.
" I know... Where would you be without me, right ?!?"
Mulder chuckled. " Probably the loony bin..."
Scully set the time, then turned around, and Mulder crossed his eyes and
stuck out his tongue, grinning like an idiot. Scully poked him in the ribs,
and he stopped making insane faces. She pulled out a bowl, and then turned
back to the microwave, just as it began to beep.
" Ow, that's hot!" She exclaimed, blowing on her fingers as she opened the
bag, and dumped the kernels into her bowl. Mulder, meanwhile, had
discovered where she kept her glasses, and was poured them two cokes.
" So, what are we going to watch ?" Mulder asked, as he followed her into
the living room. She set the bowl on the coffee table, popping a few pieces
into her mouth, as she scanned the titles in her video collection.
	" How about "Copycat"... ?"
	" Never seen it..."
Scully turned her head, pulling the tape off the shelf, and gave him an
incredulous look. " Really ?"
	He nodded
" It's really good! One of my favorites..." She said, putting it into her
VCR. Then she sat down next to him on the couch. For a while, the movie
held their attention, but then, just at the part where the guy, Reuben, was
pulling a cheeseburger out of his pocket for his female partner, M.J., it
reminded Mulder of one of their shared escapades, and he had to speak up.
"Remember that time when we were on the stakeout, during the Tooms
case ?" Scully groaned. " How could I forget..."
" You know, that's when I really began to trust you..."
Scully smiled, a thoughtful kind of a smile. " Yup. The one and only time
I have ever tried, or ever will try, to call you Fox..."
Mulder laughed. " You're lucky. You can use your name. You have a nice
first name, Dana..."
She choked on a sip of coke, and it fizzed up her nose. Had he just said
what she thought he'd said ?
Mulder suddenly realized what he'd let slip... He tried to cover up.
" You OK, Scully ?" He asked, laying a hand on her back.
She nodded, and whispered. " Something just went down the wrong way..."
After that, they both went back to the movie.

By the time half the movie had rolled by, Scully was sitting right next to
Mulder. And despite the number of times she'd seen it, the next scene still
got to her every time...
Mulder watched the scene unfold, and felt Scully slowly gravitating
towards him... The bullet whistled through the air, and hit Reuben,
throwing him to the ground. M.J. turned around, just in time to see him
collapse to the floor. She screamed and ran for him, but it was too late,
she couldn't take the bullet... He was gone... Mulder suddenly became aware
of the head Scully had rested on his shoulder. Something wet fell, and he
realized she was crying. Was it just a very moving scene, or had she been
picturing Reuben and M.J. as him and herself the whole time, as he had ? He
was pretty sure the correct answer was the latter... Very carefully and
slowly, he lowered the arm he'd had spread out across the back of the sofa,
down onto her shoulders. He gave her a gentle hug. " Don't cry..."
She sniffed. " Sorry..." But she didn't make any move to sit up, or shrug
his arm off... which pleased Mulder. Maybe tonight was the beginning of a
new stage in their relationship. And, as if reading his thoughts, Scully
spoke up.
" Mulder, why haven't we ever done this before ?"
Mulder felt her sit up, and turn to look at him.
He smiled, keeping his gaze on the TV for a moment, then spoke, as he
turned his head to face her. " I don't know Scully... But I like it when we
do things together... Maybe it's just because we see each other everyday
that we don't feel the need to do things in our spare time, together... I
mean, if I had to spend every day of the week working with someone like me,
I'd probably ditch myself ASAP..."
" Mulder... You're not that bad... I like working with you... I wouldn't
be half the person I am now, if not for you, AND the hell you sometimes
give me... "
Mulder looked at her thoughtfully for a moment, then spoke, slowly in a
very serious tone of voice.
" You have no idea what that means to me Scully... Dana..."
" No, Mulder, I think I do, because I know you think the same of me..."
Mulder smiled. " The same and more... "
Scully's lips turned up slightly at the edges, into a small smile.
Watching her reminded Mulder of a case they had solved, not too long
ago... Eddie Van Blundht... He began to chuckle, slightly nervously. Had
Scully been drugged, as well as drunk ? Then they could disprove that she
actually had those kind of feelings for him... But no, Eddie had used
Scully's trust in Mulder to get to her... Maybe he had seen something
between them, that they were both purposely blind to ... No matter how hard
he tried though, he couldn't chase the image of Scully about to kiss who
she believed to be him, from his memory... Scully interrupted his thoughts.
	" What's so funny ?" She asked.
The looked at her, then looked away, unable to keep a straight face, or
look her in the eyes. " Just thinking..."
" About what ?" She asked, a curious smile on her face.
	" Eddie Van Blundht."
Scully's face fell, and she turned away. " I was drunk..."
Mulder couldn't resist. " So, knowing that you are not drunk now, and that
you're actually siting beside The Fox Mulder, if I asked if I could kiss
you, you would say, no ?"
She gave him an evasive look. " Mulder, you know very well that you're my
partner, and my best-friend... You just happen to be of the opposite sex."
" So I don't turn you on ?" He asked, trying to be serious.
She blushed. " I can't believe we're having this conversation..."
Mulder laughed. " Do I turn you on, Scully ?!?"
" Even IF you did, it's not like we could act on it... The Bureau would
separate us, and then what would happen ? I value you more as a friend and
partner on an emotional and intellectual level than..." She hesitated. "
...anything you could be, physically..."
Mulder grinned mischievously. " You're turning me on, Scully!"
She groaned slightly, and rolled her eyes. " Mulder..."
	" I'm turning you on ?"
She opened her eyes wide, and let out an exasperated breath. " Out..."
" What ?" He said, standing up, and putting his hands on his hips. He was
mocking her, and she knew it.
" If you keep it up, I'm going to have to kick you out..."
She watched as Mulder tipped his head and stuck out his lower lip.
" No... no puppy dog faces! That's no fair!" She exclaimed, shutting her
eyes. She was smiling. Then she heard footsteps, leading to her door, where
it opened, then closed again. She stopped smiling. Had he left ? She opened
her eyes. The room was indeed void of any tall, lanky, men, but she had the
feeling he was still here. He was still close. She didn't know how to
explain it... it was just a feeling she got, when he was close. It felt
like a warm breeze, inside. When he left, the breeze went away.... It was
always like that. That's how she knew she was safe. That's how she could
put herself on the line, but know Mulder had her covered, without seeing or
speaking to him. He was part of her...
" Mulder... Where are you ?" She called, teasingly, as she stood up,
pillow in hand. No one answered. " I know you're in here... I can feel
you..." Something seemed to stir in her bedroom. She knew that comment
would catch his attention. " Mulder..." She walked into her room,
expecting to be ambushed, but nothing moved. She looked under her bed, and
in her closet. He wasn't there.
<< Where could he be ?>> She asked herself.
<< Behind the bedroom door...>> She answered herself.
She looked over and saw a shadow peeking out from under the edge. Quietly,
she snuck back over, and prepared her attack. She reached for the knob, and
pulled back with one hand, swinging the pillow with the other. She hit him,
right in the face, then ran for cover.
" I'm gonna get you!" He yelled, coming after her with the pillow.
She vaulted over the arm of the couch, and plunked down, watching the end
of the movie, as if nothing had happened. She heard him come up behind her,
and braced herself for impact, but it never came. Instead, Mulder's hands
came down on her shoulders, and he knelt down, behind the couch, so his
chin was resting on the back. She turned her head to look at him, and found
that, for once, she was seeing eye to eye with him.
	" Hi Scully..."
	" Hi Mulder..."
" No, that's where you say, 'No one down here but the FBI's most=
 wanted'...!"
	" Are you suggesting that I'm a criminal ?!?"
" You stole my heart..." Mulder realized he'd let is slip, too late.
Scully's eyes grew wide and Mulder, once again, tried to cover.
	" The movie's almost over..."
But this time, she wasn't distracted so easily.
" What are we doing Mulder ?"
	He grinned. " Having fun!"
She smiled. He acted so puerile... She realized she'd never seen him so
happy before. And they were having fun... She'd discovered a whole new side
to him. A side she definitely liked.
" Why are we always so serious ?" She asked, examining his face.
" Suits and ties will do that to you..." He stated. " On the other
hand,..." He played with the collar of her pajamas,"... flannel is always
more fun."
She laughed. " What time is it, anyway ?"
Mulder stood up and stretched, then consulted his watch.
	" Just after midnight..."
	" We're going to be a mess tomorrow... We've got a nine o'clock with
Skinner!"
Mulder grimaced. " I guess I should get going then..."
She shrugged. She didn't really want him to go, but she needed an excuse
for him to stay...
" You don't have to. I couldn't sleep right now even if I wanted to. The
caffeine in the coke has fried me..."
Mulder nodded. He was glad she'd said he could stay. He knew his apartment
would seem lonely from now on. " So..." He said, once again sitting down
next to her.
She looked up at him. " What do you want to do ?" She asked, but when he
raised his eyebrows at her and opened his mouth to say something she was
sure was going to be inappropriate, she cut him off. " If you even come
mildly close to what I think you're going to say, I'm sending you home to
watch your own videos..."
Mulder closed his mouth. Then an idea hit him. " Let's do karaoke!"
Scully closed her eyes. " I thought we went through this already..."
" What ? That time in the woods ?"
	" I can't sing Mulder!"
" I thought you sounded just fine..."
	" Mulder ?"
	" Yeah ?"
	" You're tone deaf."
" Well, I'd have to argue that you are too."
	She smiled. " Hey!"
" Well... How come you never sang the second verse of Joy To The World ?"
She turned away from him. " Have you ever heard the second verse of that
song ?"
" Uh huh. I believe it goes something like, '... And make sweet love to
you...'!"
	She nodded.
" Why didn't you sing it to me ?"
She knew he wasn't going to give up, on this one, so she shot it straight
back at him. " Because there were no sleeping bags handy."
He sighed, then came back with another idea.
" Well, if you had to sing me a song right now to say how you feel, or be
killed, what would you sing ?"
" I would chose death." She deadpanned.
Mulder smiled slightly. " Let me rephrase that. If you had to sing me a
song, or kill me..."
She cut him off. " What's the difference. Either way you'd die. At least
with could shoot you, though, instead of you having to suffer through my
singing."
	" Scully!"
	" Well..."
" Fine, I'll go first..." He smiled, as he began to sing. " You are my
sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy, when skies are gray..."
She began to laugh, and he trailed off.
" Hey, you can't stop there!" She exclaimed.
" Don't you know what comes next ?" He asked. She obviously didn't or she
wouldn't be asking to hear it. She shook her head confirming his suspicions.
"... You'll never know dear, how much I love you, so please don't take, my
sunshine away..."
She smiled slightly, but looked distracted. He could almost hear her mind
working, trying to convince herself he hadn't just said what she thought he
said. Of course, he knew he meant it, but they were stepping dangerously
close " The Line ". He decided to try and get her going, while she wasn't
totally blocking out that side of herself.
" What would you sing ?"
She looked at him, and her eyes lost that, " I'M THINKING RIGHT NOW, TRY
AGAIN LATER!" , look. Instead of answering him, she stood up, and walked
over to her CD player. She punched a couple buttons, and soon music filled
the room.

I'd like to run away from you
But if I were to leave you I would die
I'd like to break the chains you put around me
And yet I'll never try

No matter what you do you drive me crazy
I'd rather be alone
But then I know my life would be so empty
As soon as you were gone

Impossible to live with you
But I could never live without you
For whatever you do
I never, never, never
Want to be in love with anyone but you

Mulder smiled. Scully watched him listening to the words, and watched his
smile grow wider, as the lyrics continued.

You make me sad
You make me strong
You make me mad
You make me long for you

You make me live
You make me die
You make me laugh
You make me cry for you

I hate you
Then I love you
Then I love you
Then I hate you
Then I love you more
For whatever you do
I never, never, never
Want to be in love with anyone but you

Scully smiled. As hard as she tried to convince herself otherwise, it
became harder and harder with every passing day to deny her feelings for
him...

You treat me wrong
You treat me right
You let me be
You make me fight with you
I could never live without you

You make me high
You bring me down
You set me free
You hold me bound to you

I hate you
Then I love you
Then I love you
Then I hate you
Then I love you more
I love you more
For whatever you do
I never, never, never
Want to be in love with anyone but you

The song ended and Scully pushed stop. Mulder was smiling, mind reeling.
" Well, I think that just about sums that up! " Mulder said, standing up.
He walked over to Scully who looked like she was unsure of what she'd just
let slip, but also rather like she was going to fall asleep on the spot.
Obviously the caffeine had died.
" I think I'm going to go now, Scully." He said, putting a hand on her
shoulder. She yawned and nodded, and they walked to her front door,
together. He pulled on his coat, then turned to face her, as she pulled
open the door.
" So... Let's do this more often." She said, as Mulder passed through the
frame.
" I had fun tonight, Scully."
She smiled and yawned again. " Me too."
And though that should have been where they said goodnight, and closed the
door, it wasn't. They both stood there for a moment, staring at each=
 other...
Mulder leaned in, his face hovering mere inches from hers... He wanted to
kiss her, but that would be too much... Would she be mad at him ?
Scully watched him come in closer to her, and could tell he wanted to
kiss her... But unlike the other time, when she thought "Mulder" was going
to kiss her, she didn't hear the bells go off in her head. Instead all she
heard was her own rapid heart beat. They shouldn't be doing this, her mind
told her, but every other voice in her head screamed at it to shut up. And
it did. She could kiss him...
They seemed to be suspended for minutes, when it was really only a few
seconds. Mulder hovered in, and then, telling himself that it was wrong,
swerved off to the left, and gave her a hug instead... It took her a moment
to recover her senses, but when she did, she smiled, and wrapped her arms
around his waist, giving him a Scully size hug. And though it was small, it
meant the world to him. He smiled, and pulled out of her embrace. They'd
confessed enough for tonight...

But their confessions didn't end that night. From then on, they made a
special point of getting together in after office hours. At first, it was
only a couple times a month, but then it turned into once a week, and
sometimes more often. They went out to dinner, or the movies, or stayed
home and rented videos and made brownies. To anyone else, these special
times would have been called "dates", but not for Mulder and Scully. They
called them " Partner Appreciation Outings" because, according to the big
black book of Federal Bureau of Investigation rules, partnered agents were
allowed to engage in partnership enhancing activities, because it usually
improved the working relationships. Their working relationship was
definitely not the only type of relationship benefiting from their time
together...
As the weeks turned into months, Mulder and Scully grew closer and closer,
until they were almost standing on " The Line". Would they cross it ? Every
time they confessed something to each other, that question came up, and
every time it was answered with, " Maybe someday, but not today..."
