It takes place after the last scene where Mulder is walking away from a sleeping Scully on his couch. It explains how they went from that to sleeping together. Disclaimer: The X Files, Fox Mulder, and Dana Scully belong to Chris Carter and 1013 Productions - although I would love to own Mulder for a night. Feedback: Please! OceanDreams313@yahoo.com Notes: This is my first attempt at writing fanfic so please be kind! Also, if you haven't read, "Arizona Highways" by Anne Haynes, you really should. It's one of the best pieces I've ever read. Archiving: Anywhere, just let me know. Fox Mulder's Apartment 1:35AM As Mulder walked to his bedroom he turned for one last look at her. He let out a sigh as he turned and walked through the door wondering why he couldn't just tell her that. He stripped down to his boxer briefs, climbed into bed, and stared at the ceiling. Mulder groaned as he realized that it was going to be another sleepless night. He got out of bed and headed for the kitchen. Scully awoke to what sounded like clattering dished. She heard a whispered, "Damnit!" coming from another room. She sat up and looked around remembering where she was. She heard footsteps to her left and looked, and there was Mulder - wearing nothing but boxer briefs. Mulder realized she was sitting up and staring at him. He stopped and turned to look at her, becoming very self-conscious. When Mulder turned to her and smiled, Scully's breath left her. Her eyes wondered up and down his lean, cut body. "Uh, Scully, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to wake you. I was just getting some water and when I put the glass in the sink it fell over into a plate and some silverware." "That's alright. Don't worry about it." "Listen, Scully, um, why don't you sleep in my bed, and I'll take the couch." Scully glanced at her watch, "Mulder, no." "It's too late for you to drive home and you'll be more comfortable in the bed." "But what about you? I don't want to put you out like that." "Scully, come on. I slept on that couch for over 6 years. I think I can survive one more night." Scully sighed, hung her head, smiled, and softly said, "Well, if you insist." Mulder smiled, "I insist." She got up and started walking toward Mulder and his bedroom. Mulder stood in the doorway. "Um, if you want to, you can grab some shorts and a t- shirt out of my drawer," His voice trailed off. Scully stopped in front of him and looked up at him. "or" Mulder continued in a very seductive voice while he looked her up and down, "you could just wear nothing at all. I wouldn't mind." Scully blushed a little bit and laughed, "In your dreams, Mulder." Mulder laughed and stared down at Scully, watching as her face grew more serious. Scully looked down and took both of his hands in hers. She looked up with a slight smile, "Thank you, Mulder." She rose up her tiptoes and kissed him on the cheek. Mulder smiled, "What was that for?" Scully stared up at him, her eyes deep blue pools of affection. "For being such a good friend and partner. I don't think I tell you enough how much you mean to me and how grateful I am to have you in my life." She smiled, "And I wanted to thank you for listening to me and being here for me tonight." Mulder smiled and wrapped his arms around her. Her arms slid around his waist, and he rested his cheek on the top her head. He spoke softly into her hair, "I'll always be here for you, Scully; you know that. And you don't have to thank me. I want to be here for you." Scully smiled against his chest and began stroking his bare back. Suddenly, she was aware of just how little clothing he had on, and a wave of heat washed over her. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath through her nose breathing in his masculine scent. Mulder was lost in the smell of Scully's air when he became very aware of her hands running up and down his back. He could feel every nerve in his body. He tightened his arms around her and kissed the top of her head. As Mulder's arms drew her closer up against his body she could feel that she wasn't the only one getting hot. Scully grinned as she began lightly running her fingernails up and down his back. Mulder bit his lip as a shiver ran down his spine. He ran his hands up her arms and slightly pulled her back. His hands went over her shoulders and up to her cheeks. He tilted her face upwards to look into her eyes. "You're beautiful." Scully almost laughed until her eyes met his. His hazel eyes were dark with passion and desire, but there was also something more. Something she had only seen a few times for a few brief moments - pure, unconditional, undying love. Her breath caught in her throat. Mulder's head slowly moved closer to hers. Scully's eyes closed as his lips touched her forehead. Then, she felt his lips on her left cheek, right cheek, and finally, on the tip of her nose. Mulder pulled back slightly and Scully opened her eyes to see Mulder staring at her as if they were the only two people on the world and nothing else mattered but the two of them right there in that moment. Mulder lowered his head again, but with a little more force. A little more purpose. His lips met hers and she parted them, inviting him in. As his tongue explored her mouth, his left hand ran through her hair and his right ran up and down her back. Scully's arms wrapped around his neck pulling him even deeper into the kiss. They slowly made their way to the bed, hands roaming, lips never parting. Mulder picked Scully up and gently lowered her on his bed. As he lat on top of her he broke the kiss and lifted his head. His hands stroked her hair as Scully looked at him questioningly. Mulder reassured her with a smile and continued stroking her hair and studying her face. "Scully, I want you to be sure. I don't want you to regret this in the morning, because I know I won't." Scully smiled and gazed at him for a few short seconds amazed at how sweet and caring and sincere he could be. She lifted her head and kissed him. The kiss was slow and gentle, filled with all of the love, caring, friendship, and partnership that they had shared for eight years. And Mulder had his answer. The End. "I never lie. I willfully participate in a campaign of misinformation." I hoped you enjoyed it! Let me know what you think!
