Summary: After getting back from Oregon, guess who is on the phone? Conversations Between Old Friends: "Requiem" By Christina Shuy (cshuy@earthlink.net) "Jensen." "Victoria? Mulder." "Hello, Mulder. How is everything?" "I don't know." *muttered* "Now there's an answer I haven't heard before." "What was that?" "Nothing, Mulder. It just seems that you don't know how things are going a LOT and whenever I ask you, the answer nearly always seems to be the same." "Gee, thanks a lot." "I tell it like it is, Mulder. You and I both know that. Now, why have you called me in the middle of the morning on a Saturday?" "I'm worried about Scully." "Things not going well for her?" "I don't know." "There's that answer again." "Well, I don't!" "I know, Mulder. And that is what is driving you bloody insane." "And here I thought I already was that?" "Are you going to tell me what is going on with her, or is that too much to ask?" "I thought you would have known already?" "Mulder, don't be an arse. I have a suspicion, but that is nothing if I don't hear it from you first." "Wouldn't that be biasing the results?" "And since when are YOU the skeptic in your relationship with Dana?" "What's it to you?" "Mulder, if you're going to be bloody-minded about this, I'll tell you what has been going on and see whether you ask me how I know all this." "I'm all ears." "I'm going to ignore that comment. Anyway, she has been having some strange ill spells and the most severe part of this happened when she turned up at your hotel room with a bad case of the chills. You put her under the blankets and curled your body around her in order to keep warm." "That's true enough." "But, Mulder, are you honestly surprised that the large orange X in spray paint that you put there was still there, considering the road you and she were on was one that didn't get much travel." "What?" "The one you went so damned orgasmic over when the car lost all power at the same area. Or do the words 'You can't just lose time! It's a universal invariant!' and 'Not in this zip code' sound even remotely familiar?" "And here I thought we were talking about Scully?" "You were the one who said you needed proof that I knew what you were talking about even before you said a damned word." "Uh..." "Mulder, I don't know what is going on, but Alex Krycek and Marita Coverrubias are involved and this situation is only going to get worse." "And this is supposed to make me feel better?" "No. As for what is wrong with Dana, I don't know for certain. However, I do think you need to be careful in the woods of Oregon." "And what is THAT supposed to mean?" "Oh, come on, Mulder, you can't tell me you weren't planning on going back to Oregon just as soon as Dana felt better?" "Are you saying this is cancer?" "Well, no. That is one thing I am certain of. It is not her cancer returning. What I am telling you is to be careful of Alex Krycek and anyone he even remotely associates with." "Uh. Victoria? That would include me, remember? He was assigned to be my partner?" "Five years ago, Mulder." "I know. But you said 'even remotely associates with', so I wanted to be sure." "My, telling Phoebe when you were here a few months ago most certainly agrees with you." "That's not all that happened, but saying any more would be more than you need to know." "Mulder, do me a great favour please?" "What's that?" "Be careful." "Victoria, are your 'hunches' kicking in again?" "That would be putting it mildly, yes." "Then never let it be said that I don't listen." "That would be a first." "Hey!" "Well, it's true, isn't it?" "Maybe not a FIRST, but I think I will be as careful as I can be." "Then perhaps you should warn Walter." "That I doubt." "Can't be too careful, Mulder." "I know. I have to go. Need to go to the office to check on something." "Mulder, be careful." "I will." "Good night, Mulder." "Nothing wrong with your math skills, VC." *laughter* *click* -The end? - Author's note: I know I'm late with this one, but consider writer's block and real life getting in the way as to the reason why this took so damn long. I had someone do some checking for me, and apparently no dates were mentioned so there is no guarantee that there wasn't anything happening over a weekend. Besides, since when is Mulder not going into the office to check on something in the middle of the night? *g* "The Truth is Out There" "Trust No One" - The X-Files Pursuing BS-Electrical Engineering-Cal State LA-Summer 2002 Also, Fall 2002-EE437, EE334, EE345, Phys333-Class of 2003 (I hope!)
