Note: This is from the middle of the episode. Conversations Between Old Friends: Dreamland I by Christina Shuy cshuy@netcom.com "Hello?" "Victoria, it's me. I think I have a problem. I didn't wake you up, did I?" "You didn't, Mulder. I'm going west for a few days. What's going on?" "I think I... Hey... how did you know it's me?" "Mulder... " "Oh.. .right, right... You just know." "Mulder, this is no time to be patronising. You have a problem, I take it. From what I can hear, it's a serious one. Out with it, then." "Sorry..." "What happened?" "Uh... " "No, wait, don't tell me. You and Dana decided to take a trip to Area 51 in Nevada, something weird happened, and now you are stuck in someone else's body which is why you called me. You're a wreck again." "Victoria... you know, when you get that tone of voice, sometimes..." "I'm sorry, Mulder. Does Dana know about the problem... does she even know there *is* a problem?" "I just tried to call Scully. She didn't believe me! She thought I was some sort of nutcase." "Mulder, sometimes I wouldn't put it past you on that." "What's that supposed to mean?" "Just that by the way you act, those who don't know you would think you're crazy." "But that's just it! Scully *does* know me? Oh, God, why does this have to happen now? I'm out in the middle of absolutely NOWHERE-" "Mulder, are you calling from a payphone?" "Uh... yeah. Why?" "Mulder, are you aware that you are talking to me on *my* celphone right now?" "Yeah... I know." "Photographic memory at work again, Mulder?" "Only way I know how. Wait a minute...you said you were going west. You're coming out *here*?" "Not quite Nevada, but further. Unless you know of another way to get to Los Angeles other than going west, Mulder, I'd apprieciate your letting me know. So, who's body are you in anyway?" "Some weird guy from Area 51. The name on the badge says Morris Fletcher. Apparently, he works in Area 51 as some sort of... uh... well, let's just say I'm not sure as what yet. He's got a wife and two kids, a boy and a girl. I think his wife may well be more paranoid than I am." "Only about her husband cheating on her and not loving her anymore. She's not really paranoid, Mulder, just insecure. And I'm certain waking up, not finding her husband in bed with her but downstairs asleep while watching cheap pornographic movies on cable did not help her insecurity." "Come on, Victoria, you know how that's how I usually get to sleep!" "I know you, Mulder. I don't know Morris Fletcher, though if things I've seen Dana going through are any indication, I think you might have the better end of the deal." "So what do you suggest I do?" "Try to be as undisruptive as possible." "Uh... I'm not sure that's possible anymore." "Why's that?" "Because apparently Joanne Fletcher, that's this Morris person's wife, heard me mumbling 'Scully' in my sleep. Now she thinks her husband is being unfaithful to her with someone named 'Scully'." "How would she know about Dana?" "I think I mumbled her name in my sleep. And now Joanne Fletcher thinks her husband is cheating on her with Scully!" "Well, technically, Mulder, she's right." "But I'm not her husband!" "But her husband *is* with Dana right now, right?" "That bastard's pretending to be me!" "Mulder, you look like Morris Fletcher, and you *sound* like Morris Fletcher. The only reason I know you are actually Fox William Mulder is because of how I sense you." "How you sense me?" "Mulder, to me, everyone has a unique mental sense to them. Just like those strange shapeshifting bounty hunters you have come across before. If one tried to tell me he was you, I'd know. They don't feel the same way mentally that you do." "Scully'd never believe this, you know." "It's not a matter of whether or not Dana believes this. It's a matter of whether or not *you* can cope with this situation. Keep looking for answers. What posessed you to go out to Area 51, anyway?" "I got this call from someone who wanted me to see something... and he named Area 51... so... I asked Scully and we went. That's when things went weird." "You and she *drove* out to Area 51?" "Not from DC. We took a plane to Las Vegas and then drove out into the desert." "Mulder, as I recall, that's dangerous. There aren't too many places to get petrol out in the middle of the desert." "We were doing fine. I had little over half a tank left when we got stopped by Morris Fletcher and his goon squad." "Goon squad?" "I don't know how else to put it." "That's alright." "Victoria, I think I've been on the phone too long with you. Are you going to try to come out to Nevada to help me?" "I'll think about it." "Okay. I'll let you know how things go." "Take care of yourself, Mulder. Be careful, and watch your back." "Will do." *click* -End- "The Truth is Out There.
