Title: Don't call me Agent Mulder Author: Riana Rating: PG-13 Classification: V, that's all. Just some thoughts after last night's ep Spoilers: Mind's Eye and one mention to Duane Barry (I meant to post this last monday, but my computer crashed!) Feedback: Please! I'm begging you! Disclaimer: I don't own anyone mentioned in this. If I did, I wouldn't be writing fanfic, I'd write the episodes. They all belong to Chris Carter, 1013, Fox and I don't know who else. Don't call me Agent Mulder 1/1 Riana (danascully@coldmail.com) He sighed, and let the guard lead him towards the exit. "Agent, Mulder! Wait, come back, please-" Mulder turned around at the sound of her voice. There was real panic in it-something he had heard in Scully's voice on his answering machine one night. He ran back to the door. "Marty, what is it? Are you okay?" She was breathing rapidly, and her head was turning back and forth, as if she might catch a glimpse of something. "It's so dark now." Her voice was a frightened, almost child-like whisper. "I've never been in the dark, alone before. I mean, there was always some image, or sense of light coming from him-from my father. But now that he's dead, there's nothing. I don't know what to do. I'm so empty. I'm-alone." Mulder reached out and gently squeezed her hand. "Guard, please open the door. I'll only be a few moments." He walked in, and led Marty to sit next to him on the bed. The door gently closed. Deciding that it would be easier to talk to her if she faced him, Mulder gently put both hands on her shoulders, and she instantly recoiled at the contact. He flinched, then reached out again and turned her towards her. "Listen to me Marty. You just told me, yourself, that you saw the ocean. Just picture that ocean now, and hold it in your mind. It may not be much, but it will help you. I've never been blind, but I know it can help. When I was young-my family had some problems. I'd do everything I could to shut out my parents' constant arguing and fighting, but nothing worked. Then I remembered the ocean. We used to go there all the time before they took Sa- I mean before things got worse." He sighed deeply, and didn't speak until Marty grasped for his hand on her shoulder. "I'd lie on my bed at night, and close my eyes, thinking of the ocean and the sound of the waves until I lost sense of everything around me. You could do it too." "I- Thank you Agent Mulder. You're the best man I've ever met. I, I don't know how to thank you." Mulder chuckled quietly. "Now I'm sure that you've met plenty of men that make me seem like horse ****." Marty shifted a little to sit cross legged on the bed. "No, really. You're the only person who actually talks to me as if I'm a real person, even though I can't see. I don't think you have any idea how hard it is to come by people like you, Agent Mulder." "Now please, don't call me *Agent* Mulder." "O-kay-do you have a first name then? Or do I just call you Mulder like that sexy partner of yours?" "That's fine- Hey, who said Scully was sexy?" "*Scully*? Is that some kind of term of endearment?" "No, we're just partners, and why do you say that she's sexy? It isn't like you can see her or anything!" Marty was quiet. To his surprise, she giggled. "No, actually, I didn't see her. You know just as well as me that I'm blind. But you can tell by the way men talk to her, that, unlike me, she's got some sexual aura around her. Like they're all trying to find a way to discreetly lay her ASAP. Yourself included." Mulder flinched at how close to the truth she actually was, but didn't want to let her know. "Two things. #1: Who said I ever wanted to *lay* Scully, she's my partner for crying out loud. 2nd, why do you think so lowly of yourself? Just because you can't see, that doesn't mean you're less attractive than you are in *any* way." Marty reached her hands over his face, scanning his features. Then she removed her hands and assumed a sarcastic tone. "Now, now *Agent Mulder*. You are a very handsome man, and you don't need to lie to me, just so you won't have to spend tonight alone. Besides, how the hell do you think you'd get me outa here! Oh, I know! You'll just flash your little badge at those guards and smile your pretty-boy smile at them, then drag me off to the next Motel 6 like your own personal wench! I'll tell you what, I fell for you. Oh yes, Mr. Intelligent-Sensitive FBI Agent. So, how many women have you pulled that trick off with? A few dozen? Or more? Well, not me. Not now, not *ever*!" Mulder stared at her, shocked. All through her monologue her voice had gotten more unsteady and louder and louder till she was nearly screaming. Her shoulders were shaking, and Mulder felt his heart go out to this woman. He reached over and hugged her, and when her crying stopped, he put her at arms length, and placed a hand over hers. "Marty, please. Just hear me out. I would never- could never hurt you. You are one of the most attractive woman I have ever met, and don't hold it against me. I just meant to tell you the truth, and please don't hate me for it." She looked up at the direction of his voice and shook her head. "I'm sorry, I never thought that you meant it. I mean-The few men I've been with only wanted to take advantage of me, and I'm so unused to sincere men who just mean to flatter." Mulder was shocked at the shy tone in her voice, a tone that he never assumed she'd take in the few days that he'd known her. Spontaneously, he reached down and cupped her face in his hands, and kissed her. It was almost the kiss of a lover, but it only gave and didn't ask for anything. Marty pulled back, and looked down, then reached for his face, and pulled his face to hers. She then kissed him, a little tentatively, and while their lips touched, she moved her hands all along his face and head and neck, exploring and seeming to memorize his every feature. Mulder was the first to pull away. "Marty, I-" She stood up, strangely calm, and pulled him up with her. "Agent Mulder, shh. Don't worry. You've given me everything I've ever wanted. I'm not asking for anything more-you already have someone more suited for you waiting in your office. Now, you should leave. Go home Agent Mulder." "Marty, I- No," he shook his head to himself. "Thank you for understanding. You are one of the strongest women I have ever met, and I'm proud to have given you as much as I can, as much as you want." He turned for the door then turned around and smiled a sad-sweet smile at her, even though she couldn't see it. She pushed him toward the door, and heard it open and slowly close. He reached for her hands again, and she smiled up at him. "Thank you. I will always be able to see you in my mind, and my heart. Thank you for giving me my life, Agent Mulder." Marty let go of his hands and found her way to the bed, then lied down. Mulder walked away, then remembered what she said. He half turned, then whispered, "and don't call me Agent Mulder," even though he knew she couldn't hear him. End Author's note: Even though I am a die-hard shipper, I had to write this story. I could just see something was unresolved with Mulder and Marty. All feedback- comments, criticisms, etc welcome. danascully@coldmail.com
