Everything That Rises II Written By: Sarah Rose Padilla Crossroads have been passes, bridges have been burned, life and death have hung in the balance time after time, yet everything heads back to this point. Mulder and I comforting each other, never as strong as this moment right now. I spent the night with him. We held each other last night, each being the security blanket for the other, and although it has not healed our physical wounds, our psyches have undergone a magnificent transformation. I want to stay here forever, like this, here in Mulder's arms, but I know I cannot. We have so much more to travel before we find our places in each other's lives. I gently rise from Mulder's bed attempting not to wake him. "Scully?" "Yeah. Mulder, what's wrong?" "Scully, I love you." He says it to me without even stirring a bit. I can't help but smile at the piece of his soul that he has offered me. Standing at the sink in his bathroom, I wash my face and attempt to straighten my hair. As I look myself over in the mirror I see only a fraction of what I used to be. My changes have been as great as Mulder's .....I look older. The red marks on my face from the frostbite I suffered in Antarctica have faded to a pale red color, barely visible on my fair skin. Cold water splashes onto my face and I am fully awake within seconds. As I make my way back to the bedroom I find that Mulder is no longer in bed. "Mulder?" Looking around I head towards the front room, and see a note he left on the kitchen table. "Scully, Went to get supplies, be back in ten minutes, relax." Mulder. It amazes me that even after we have professed our feelings for each other that we still call each other by our last names. "Mulder....Mulder....Mulder." His name is a benediction each time I say it. Calling each other Dana and Fox, it wouldn't be right, it doesn't sound right after all this time. Besides, I've fallen in live with his last name. As I begin to fantasize about our future together Mulder enters the apartment carrying two grocery bags, struggling to shut the door behind him. I giggle softly as I rush to help him with the bags. "Don't laugh at me, Scully, or I'll kick your ass." I give him the cheesiest grin I can and he quickly puts the bags down and rushes to me, giving me a wet kiss on the lips. "Hey big man...are you cooking or am I?" I ask recovering from his passionate kiss. "I figured we both could." Emptying the groceries' from their bags I see that Mulder has learned to shop. Eggs, bread, Milk, Orange Juice, Bacon, Hash browns. Glancing at him I raise my eyebrows, "When did you learn to shop?" "Watch it or you'll be making breakfast by yourself." Looking at Mulder, I reach for the eggs, he grabs my hand holding it still, and just looks at me. I can see his thoughts rising to the top of his mind. Pushing myself towards him, I wrap my arms around his waist and pull him closer to me, resting my head on his chest. I hear him sigh. He must realize that I'm crying because he says to me, "Scully, everything will be alright." I pull back and look at him. "What took us so damn long?" "I don't know, Scully, but we have something now, something good that can last forever if we try." I nod at him and we begin our first real breakfast together as a couple. Everything, all of it, is out there now, on the table. All the possibilities are before us, and we're ready for the challenge. Breakfast tastes better then any other breakfast before. We have risen. ******************* Mulder and I begin to clean up our morning mess of eggs, and hash browns, when he poses and interesting question, "Who are we going to tell?" My feeling of joy is briefly swept away. " I don't know Mulder, they might try to use it against us." He looks at me. "That's never stopped them. It could be worse if we don't tell anyone. Let's wait awhile, and then we can figure out what we're going to do." "That sounds good. You know Mulder, look at how much we've both changes. We can do this, I have to believe that we can." Mulder's eyes got wide, "You mean the skeptic believes?" "Oh, you're funny." I replied rolling the towel into a wet whip and snapping it towards Mulder's arm. "Ouch! Scully, you're getting it for that." After chasing me around the room for what seemed like an eternity I let Mulder catch me. Tackled to the ground he pinned my arms lightly above my head and kissed me. His mouth warm and welcoming, his taste bitter, and salty, delicious. "Well there is one thing we haven't talked about, Scully." "And what would that be?" "When might we be able to ..."he began searching for a word," Consummate this relationship?" "Hmmmm...soon I hope." He smiles and helps me up. "Well what are you doing today?" "I have a lunch date with my mother, and then later tonight I'm having dinner with this guy." "Oh yeah?" Mulder looked surprised. Where's he taking you?" "I'm cooking for him, a great big dinner." "Ahh-huh. What time should I crash this little shin-dig of yours?" "I was thinking maybe around 6:00." "I'll see ya there, Scully." *THE END* End Note: As always I love feedback.....look for a continuance of the story coming soon.
