His head had been pounding for three days regardless how many Advil he took. Mulder hadn't told Scully he nearly collapsed while he was packing up his things. She would have worried too much. Of course, where it concerned her partner, Scully had a right to worry. He was always ending up in the hospital for one thing or another. "Mulder, are you all right?" she asked when she noticed him wincing. "Yeah, Scully, fine," he lied. "Perfectly all right." As soon as he said that, a blinding flash of pain permeated his skull. "Mulder, watch out!" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Chilmark, MA November 27, 1973 10:13 pm "Fox, Fox, sweetheart, wake up." Fox opened his eyes to see his mother standing over him. His head was pounding as he took in his surroundings. He realized he was lying on the couch in his home in Chilmark. Then, he remembered his sister. "Samantha!" he yelled sitting up too quickly. "Fox, calm down." "Leave him alone, Teena!" He heard his father's voice boom. "But, Bill..." "Go into your room and take your medicine!" Fox knew what that meant, now that the police had left, his father would be giving him the punishment he deserved. "Dad, I'm sorry. I tried to save her, I tried!" He pleaded. "You're a worthless piece of shit! You can't do anything right! You were supposed to protect her!" "I tried. I really did..." Fox whispered trying to hold back his tears. Fox new his father hated it when he cried. It wasn't "manly" enough. Bill Mulder picked his son up by the arm and through him across the floor. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Trinity Hospital May 5, 1997 7:16 pm "Please, Dad! Stop, please!" Mulder yelled thrashing about. "Doctor, we can't get him to calm down!" "Nurse, where's the woman that was with him?" "She's being checked on herself. I believe she'll be here soon. Why?" She asked attempting to hold Mulder down. "Just get her in here--now!" Scully entered the room as soon as Mulder had calmed down. She had a small cut above her eye but otherwise she was fine. Right now she was only worried about her partner. Mulder had become disoriented and started swerving about dangerously. It was only through Scully's quick thinking by reaching over to turn the steering wheel that they survived. If she hadn't, others would have been killed too. Luckily, they just hit the railing. "Doctor, I'm Dana Scully, Agent Mulder's partner and next of kin. How's he doing?" "He's stable for now. We were on our way to do a CT scan when he woke up screaming." "Screaming?" she asked. "What about?" "He was yelling for his dad to stop. That's all I know, we have to get him up there immediately." Scully followed them upstairs holding Mulder's hand. Even though he couldn't hear her, she told him she'd be waiting for him. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Trinity Hospital ICU 8:09 pm Scully was pacing in the waiting room when she saw her mother and Skinner heading towards her. "Dana, are you all right?" Maggie Scully asked giving her daughter a hug. "I'm fine mom." Looking at her boss she said, "Sir." "Agent Scully, what happened?" "Do you both remember when Mulder underwent the unconventional treatment a few weeks ago?" She paused as the two nodded. "I was hoping it wouldn't be affecting him anymore but I was wrong. They did a CT scan and found a subdural hematoma, which is swelling beneath the brain. Actually, the treatment wasn't the initial cause of the hematoma, the accident was. The damn airbag didn't open! So now, he's in surgery, they're trying to relieve the pressure." xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Chilmark, MA November 28, 1973 9:25 am When Fox came to, his head and arm were hurting really bad. He noticed that he was on the living room floor and it was the next morning. Slowly getting up, he headed to the bathroom. What he needed was aspirin. After Fox had taken the pills, he decided to lay down in his bed. He noticed that there was absolutely no one home. How was he going to set his arm? Then he remembered what a friend of his dad's, Jack, told him. He puffed on his cigarettes and told him, '"Fox, if you ever need anything, here's my phone number.'" Maybe Jack would be able to get him to a hospital. He shakily picked up the receiver in the kitchen with his good arm and dialed the number from memory. "Yes?" "Jack? It's Fox." "Fox, shouldn't you be in school, young man?" he asked. Ignoring the question, he said, "Jack, I need help. My arm's broken and mom and dad aren't here. And Jack, Samantha's gone! Someone took my sister!" "Calm down, Fox, calm down. I'll be there shortly." When Fox hung up, he looked into the angry eyes of his father. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Trinity Hospital May 6, 1997 10:46 am "No! Dad, I'm sorry!" "Mulder, it's okay! Mulder!" Scully said trying to calm him. She spoke to him in hushed tones until he finally settled down. "Scully?" he said weakly, "What happened?" "We were in a car accident, do you remember any of that?" "Yeah, but--" He stopped when he saw her stitches. "Oh God, Scully, I'm so sorry." "Don't worry about it, no harm done," she replied pushing the call button. Fifteen minutes later, the doctor joined them. "Ah, Mr. Mulder. I'm Doctor Angello. How are you feeling?" "Tired, and my head hurts." "I'm going to see about some pain killers. Why don't you rest up for a while." Mulder nodded to the doctor as he left. "Mulder," Scully said, "do you want to tell me about your dream? You yelled for your dad to stop. Stop what, Mulder. What happened?" "Scully, it's probably nothing, like you said about those flashbacks." He didn't want to tell her that the beatings were all too true. One of the few things he remembered after Samantha's abduction. Mrs. Scully popped her head into the room. "Fox, how are you feeling?" "I've been better. Come in, Mrs. Scully." Greatful for the interruption, Mulder told her he was glad she came to see him. "I'm so relieved you're both all right." While Mrs. Scully talked to her daughter, Mulder began feeling the same sharp pains he felt while he was driving. Again, he couldn't get Scully's attention until the monitors started beeping. "Oh God, Mulder!" She slammed the call button and watched as his blood pressure sky rocketed. Doctor Angello ran into the room with five nurses barking out orders right and left. Ten minutes later, Mulder's blood pressure was down. "That was a close call," Angello said. "What caused it?" Scully wanted to know. "I'm not entirely certain, Agent Scully. I think we should run a tox screen." "You think he's been drugged? But when? How? We were just on a case, he was fine." The doctor held up his hand. "It's just for precaution. I don't know what else to do, we need to be certain." Scully nodded and had a really bad feeling that Dr. Angello was right. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Chilmark, MA December 1, 1973 3:06 pm "Hi, Jack. I didn't know you were picking me up today," Fox said getting into the car. "Well, your parents are very busy, you know." Fox nodded solemnly. *Yeah, right* "Fox, can I ask you a question?" "Sure." "What if I was your father?" Fox wondered what kind of question that was, then answered. "That would be awesome, Jack!" he replied smiling. Jack pulled out a cigarette and smiled back. If one day Bill got really out of hand, he would tell Fox the truth; who he was and that he had a brother out there; another sibling he could love. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Trinity Hospital May 6, 1997 11:33 am "Agent Scully." She stood up when Dr. Angello entered Mulder's room. "We found a drug in your partner's system..." "What kind?" she asked worriedly. Angello looked at her confused. "Ketamine." xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Boston, MA May 1, 1997 Actual location unknown "Scully! Where are you?" "Would somone please shut him up?" Alex Krycek said turning back to Dr. Goldstein. "How much longer until he regains all his "memories"?" "Two, mayber three weeks at the most. If the treatment doesn't kill him first, which it may very well do." "Oh well, that's life," Krycek muttered. "Do the last treatment and prepare him for removal." xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Trinity Hospital May 6, 1997 1:52 pm "Scully!" Mulder opened his eyes and looked around the room. He couldn't find her. "Scully?" Two nurses ran in the room to try and calm him. "Where's Scully? Dana Scully? Find her, please." Mulder said with so much effort that his head started pounding again. Five minutes later, Scully came in and asked the nurses to leave. "Scully..." Mulder said breathlessly. "I though you left me." "I would never leave you, G-Man. My bladder was talking though." Mulder smiled then said, " Scully, those flashbacks...they seem more real than the other ones but I don't remember having more treatment from Goldstein. Did I?" "No, Mulder, not that know of, why?" "I had this strange flashback from about a week ago." "The day you were missing and we couldn't find you. When we did, you were unconscious just like in..." "...just like in Providence," Mulder finished. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Boston, MA May 1, 1997 Actual Location Unknown "Don't worry, Agent Mulder, you won't remember a thing," Dr. Goldstein said, "except your past. It's what you wanted, right?" Dr. Goldstein began drilling the hole into Mulder's forehead. "No! Stop! Don't!" xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Trinity Hospital May 7, 1997 12:08 pm "Lunch time, Mr. Mulder," the Nurse said carrying a tray. Mulder groaned. "Great, if my headaches don't kill me, the food sure will!" "Now, now, you'll be eating solid foods before you know it!" she said happily. "Mary, you people are just too damn cheerful for your own good." Mary laughed. "We do try, Dana. Make sure he eats everything on that tray!" "I will." "See you later, Mr. Mulder." As soon as she left, Mulder asked Scully what she learned about Dr. Goldstein. "He was released from jail about three weeks after he was sent there. Apparently, he ended up as an employee for a Michael Tunguska. And Mulder, Dr. Goldstein was found dead in an abandoned warehouse." Mulder was turning over the name, Michael Tunguska in his head. "What was the guy's name, who Goldstein worked for?" "Michael Tunguska." "I thought so. Alex Krycek." "Krycek? What makes you suspect him?" Scully asked. "Michael Jordan is his favorite basketball player, he told me when we were working together. Tunguska is a city in Russia. The place with those work camps. We we both there. This whole plan was for me to get this treatment. But this time it was without my consent!" Scully saw Mulder's face turning a deep shade of red and that his blood pressure was slowly rising. "Mulder, take a deep breath and calm down. You have got to control your anger right now." He nodded as Scully took his hand. "Don't worry, one of these days all those men will pay!" xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Unknown Location May 7, 1997 "Well, Agent Mulder isn't dead but he won't be working for a while. We'll just have to make certain when he's better that we don't underestimate him. He may be reinvested." Krycek looked at Strughold and nodded. "Yes, sir, we'll make certain he'll cause little problems." "For your sake, I hope so." THE END Well? How was it? E-mail feedback to CSMsWife@aol.com!
