"Finding the Truth"
By Spooky Jr.

"How?! How Scully and why, is what I want to know!"

They had arrived back at his apartment after finding
out that C.G.B. Spender had done disappeared. Again.
It was come to be expected. After giving false
information, he was too smart to stick around.

All evidence cleared, all traces vanished. Nope
nothing new.

Hardly any words had been passed between them and the
air in the room had grown tense. Mulder passed his
hands roughly through his thick brown locks of hair in
vain attempt to calm himself.

"I don't know Mulder. That's all I can say, I don't
know."

"You don't know?" Mulder walked stiffly around the end
table to his couch, occupying the space on the far
left end. He was avoiding any physical contact, she
noted.

"Scully you lied to me!" He was up and pacing, his
hand
taking its place of running through his hair once
more.

"You lied! You went off for two days with my worst
enemy! You *trusted* him. He led you down a path of
lies and look where it's left you."

Scully shook her head slightly, her eyes kept a
downcast to the floor avoiding his. In his were hurt,
despair and anger.

"Mulder he said he had a cure for cancer. For all
illnesses. I thought that by going out on a limb,
maybe, just maybe I could've found something that
would have made a difference in the world."

Mulder shook his head, and stopped in the middle of
the floor, his arms folded tightly across his chest.

"Why couldn't you come to me? Why couldn't you tell
me? Something could have happened and I wouldn't have
even known until it was too late!"

Mulder's voice lowered to a whispered pitch. "I
thought you trusted me."

"Mulder I do trust you! More than anyone! This has
nothing, NOTHING to do with my trust in you."

"Well obviously it does, since you didn't trust me
enough to let me in on this little charade."

"No Mulder, I recorded him and I mailed it to you and
I know now that you never got it, but that at least
goes to say I took precautions."

"These men don't know precautions Scully. They only
know killings and sacrifices and they don't care who
they hurt in the process."

Scully looked up to meet Mulders eyes, seeing there no
anger, only worry, hurt and frustration. "I'm so
sorry," she whispered, bringing her head down to rest
in the palms of her hands, silent tears running tracks
down her face.

Mulder came around and took his vacated seat on the
couch, this time much closer as he leaned in and
wrapped his left arm around her shoulders.

"Scully...I'm...not mad at you, but when you took off
and I had no where-about's, no information and no way
of contacting you, it scared me. And this," he
motioned with his right hand at there scene of her
crying and him upset, "is why I don't trust him.
This is what I was afraid of. I never wanted you to
get hurt or upset. This led nowhere and all for
nothing."

Scully leaned into his touch, swiping her hands across
her face in effort to clear away the tears. "I guess
I'm like you Mulder, I just want the truth. I wanted
it so badly that I would believe him and what he said.
I just kept thinking that other people are out there
with cancers just like I had and this could've been
there cure and then I thought that if my cancer ever
came back this was my cure as well."

Mulder rubbed her shoulders tenderly and kissed the
top of her head. "Your heart was in the right place,
just like it's always been. And you did the right
thing, it was him who was wrong. His day is coming
though. I promise you."

"Yeah, he said he was dying and that he wanted one
last chance to do something right, to make a
difference and leave a mark before he was gone. And I
swear there for a while I thought I was actually
seeing a new side of him, but it was only a facade. He
doesn't deserve a cure, he's taken the lives of to
many innocents."

"You know what I've come to believe Scully?"

Scully arched her eyebrow, giving him a questioning
glance.

"I've come to believe that all truths are worth
finding, and that you have to look in the right place,
but you have to follow with your heart AND your mind
and eventually you'll find it. Your heart was in the
right place, but you were thinking on a totally
different line and it blinded you to the truth of him
being the same person and only his facade
was different."

Scully nodded slowly and took Mulders hand, lacing
there fingers.

"We'll find the truth Mulder and we'll find it
together, because you have a good heart and a
brilliant mind. Us working together as a team make us
unstoppable."

The End.
