Author's Notes: Who knows where this one came from. Two days ago, as I
walked out to get my newspaper, wearing my terribly chic nighttime ensemble
of a faded long tee-shirt and men's boxers, I watched the morning sky and
the phrase, 'first kiss of morning light,' hit me. Anyone who knows me
knows sentimental prose is like a foreign language to me. I might catch a
phrase or two but I just don't speak it. This is not to say I'm not a
sentimental buffoon, I am, but sentimental phrases are not really me. So
this phrase came to me and wouldn't let go. This morning I was working on
something else and the darned phrase wouldn't release its grip on my mind.

First Kiss of Morning

Sara B 07/06

Scully sat on the back porch railing sipping her coffee while watching the
sun rise. This was her favorite time of the day, when the sky received its
first kiss of morning light.

Each morning she was witness to a show of grand proportions. Today the sky
was filled with wisps of clouds painted from a pallet that even the most
talented artisan couldn't duplicate. The day before the sky was angry. It
was filled with multi tonal gray clouds peppered with occasional flashes of
light and the air was filled with the sound of deafening rolling thunder.

She heard a soft tread and turned to greet Mulder as he padded barefoot over
the slightly rough porch floorboards. "You should put slippers on; you
don't want to risk a splinter."

Mulder sipped his coffee, looked down at her unshod feet and raised his
brow. "Like my dad always said, do as I say not as I do, Mulder." She
raised her head and he lowered his to meet her lips. Another thing she
loved about mornings was the first kiss of the day. "Love you, Mulder."

"Love you too, Scully. Beautiful morning, not like yesterday. Anything
planned for the day?"

"Every morning is beautiful in its way; everyone unique and different."

Mulder leaned in and kissed her again. "Kind of like your kisses, each one
different but enjoyable every time." His eyes told her that he may be
teasing but he meant what he said.

"You're incorrigible."

"But you love me anyway."

"Yeah, I guess I do. I must be a masochist."

"That has got to be it." Mulder held her in a loose hug. "You never
answered, is there anything you want to do today?"

"Nothing planned but I was wondering if you wouldn't mind if we pretended it
was yesterday?"

Mulder was confused, "I'm not following you. Did you want to do something
yesterday that we didn't do because of the bad weather?"

"No, I'm saying I really enjoyed what we ended up doing because of the bad
weather."

"But all we did was," Mulder broke off when it hit him. "Oh, right: day
inside, mostly in bed. Geez, Scully, look at that sky. What a rotten day.
Maybe we should just spend the day inside, what do you think?" The last of
his statement came out breathy as her mouth gently suckled his nipple.

"I don't know, Mulder, we wouldn't want the weather to ruin our honeymoon."

Mulder roughly pulled her to him. "Oh, we won't, Scully, we most certainly
won't." He attached his lips to her neck. He smiled against her skin when
he was rewarded with a deep groan.

Scully loved mornings and Mulder was becoming pretty fond of them too.
