Disclaimers: Pendrell, Scully, and Mulder are all property of Chris Carter and 1013 productions. Angel is my creation. The non-shipper story, do Mulder and Scully need to me that close? No I say. Sorry shippers. I would accept feedback, but never any flames. Pendrell didn't believe what he saw. He lifted up the sheet, he did do it. No, it couldn't be, he would never do this to her. No, no. He had already skidded his butt over the line, it was a little far in sight. He had to get out of there, he had to think. Run, run. He reached over the bed to put his clothes back on. He eventually fell off the edge of the bed and just laid on the floor. He just hoped she wouldn't wake up and take it out on him and leave. He whined in fear as she woke up. "Pendrell!!" Angel's voice shrilled through his ears. She figured it out. He stayed on the floor as she hurriedly got dressed and stormed out of his apartment. The pain knowing what he had done seared through his chest as hot tears streamed down his face. He couldn't change it now, it's already too late. Angel fell into her chair after returning to her apartment. She reflected on last night's events, then cried. She brought it on herself, why? She couldn't live with the shame of it, and neither could Pendrell. She buried her face in her hands. "Oh, Pendrell." she said between sobs. The damage they had done was a deep lunge into the sea, she only hoped it could be lost. Scully woke with a start. She had to get Mulder out before he started to think he crosses over with her. The clothes she wore yesterday were wrinkled, but luckily still on. Mulder was asleep on her couch, and she rose out of the chair to wake him up. She fixed her clothes, Mulder doesn't need a clue, because they didn't. She slapped his face a few times to wake him up. He did, groaning. He took one look at her and grinned a dirty grin. "Get up!" Scully said through clenched teeth. "Why? You don't want to admit you slept with me?" Mulder said. "I didn't sleep with you! You just thought I did, but I was the one who refused and pushed you away." Scully pulled him up and dragged him towards the door. "Yeah right." Scully threw open the door and pushed Mulder out into the hall. He fell to the floor and hit his head on the wall. "I didn't ok? I don't know where you get your ideas, Playboy, your dirty dreams, or the aliens." "Oh, mock me now, but you won't forget it." "Go lick yourself." Scully slammed the door. Mulder flinched. "What's eating her?" Mulder picked himself off the floor and dusted himself off. His jacket. Scully opened the door and threw his jacket in his face and slammed the door shut again. Mulder put his jacket on and muttered a thanks to the door. He headed to his car, feeling a little guilty for talking back to Scully. Scully sat on the floor near the door. She couldn't believe Mulder's attitude. She wasn't quite sure she knew him anymore. She was pretty sure she didn't do the wild things with him, last night was crystal clear. Right after she kissed him, Mulder fell backwards and hit his head on he coffee table because she accidentally hit him in the chin with her knee. She put him on her couch, and returned to looking at the files. She tried hard that night to put together the complicated puzzle that was the train bombing case. She needed help on it, someone who knew what happened, one of the angels who watched over that dreadful day. Mulder snored on, while Scully tried to find where was Pendrell. Scully was positive about what happened last night. She longed for Pendrell. The last time she saw him was on Valentine's Day, last month. Where was he? Where? Pendrell finally got off the floor and climbed back into bed. He couldn't change it, so he'll have to deal with it. His mind drifted to Scully. What if she'll find out? He could really get his ass kicked. He couldn't hurt either Scully or Angel. He had to talk to Scully. Scully heard he phone ring. She got off the floor, cursing under her breath, damn damn damn. Where was the freakin' phone? She found it in the kitchen. "Scully." she said calmly into the receiver. "Hi Scully." said Pendrell. His voice sounded distant. "Pendrell? Is that you? I can't hear you that well." "Oh sorry, I'm not quite awake yet." Scully looked at her watch. "It's 11 AM. Why are you calling?" "I want to talk to you. Can you come over?" "Over where?" "My apartment." "I didn't know they give you apartments up in heaven." "It's just some work thing. Can you come over?" "Ok, sure. Where is your apartment?" "It was moved to Cloud 9 Apartments. Do you know where it is?" "Yeah. Is it on the outskirts of DC?" "Yeh-uh. Go to the top floor, apartment 194." "Ok, see you soon." Scully hung up the phone. She ran to her bedroom to change her clothes. Mulder sat on his couch. What the? Mulder felt like a jerk. He assumed a lie and made his own partner mad. He had the rest of the day to think up something, and fast. He hated himself for doing that. He smacked his hand on his forehead, stupid! Angel heard the elevator whir. Who could that be? She creeped to the door and cracked it open a little to see who was coming down the hall. It was Scully. What was she doing here? To investigate a couple of dead people? Ah, to visit Pendrell. Did he tell her where he lived? Geez, I hope he doesn't tell her. She shut the door. She was heading back to her chair when there was a knock on the door. Huh? Why was Scully knocking on Angel's door. "Pendrell?" Scully asked behind the door. Angel had to say something. She threw on her New York accent and replied back. "Who's Pendrell?" asked Angel, her voice disguised. "Um.." "Oh you mean that lab mouse redhead guy. He's in the next apartment." "Ok thanks." Scully went over and knocked on the other door. Pendrell answered it. He looked horrible. His hair was messed up, eyes were red, and dried tears across his cheeks. His clothes were wrinkled and his shirt was inside out. "Come in." Pendrell said quietly. He hasn't realized what he looked like. He flopped down on his couch while Scully walked in. At least she looked better than him, a short skirt and a gray t-shirt. He couldn't even move, collapsed on the couch with a weakened voice. Scully sat on the couch near his legs. She put a hand on his thigh. "What's wrong?" Scully asked. "I did something I shouldn't have done. I don't feel so great, and I can't even move." answered Pendrell. "Why don't you go take a shower or something? It'll help." "Oh, ok." Pendrell got off the couch. He looked at her. "Go on, go." "You won't get bored?" "No. I'll be fine. I've never seen your apartment before." "All right. I'll be back." Pendrell left the living room, leaving Scully on his couch. Scully looked around the living room. She gave herself a tour around the apartment. Mulder figured it all out now. He had to head back over to Scully's apartment and apologize to her. He grabbed his coat and ran out of his apartment and down the hall to the elevator. He punched the down button. "Come on, hurry up!" said Mulder still punching the down button. Then the doors whooshed open. The warm water felt good on Pendrell's skin. He couldn't believe how tense he was. Put it behind you, it wouldn't make any sense to worry about it. A little voice ringed in his head. For once, something was right. He had to put it behind him. But what about Angel? He would go and talk to her after Scully left. Ah, Scully. Scully, he still had to tell her. Damn. Maybe later. Pendrell nodded to himself. Scullly stood in Pendrell's bedroom. His bed caught her eye. The sheets were rumpled, doesn't the guy even make his bed anymore? She ran her hands along the bed posts. So warm looking and welcoming. She just felt at that moment to make his bed. Pendrell sludged down the tiny hall to his bedroom. His hair was damp and he was only wearing a towel around his waist. He was glad he took Scully's advice and pushed open his bedroom door. Scully was laying across his bed, and he could see up her skirt. "Oh, hi Scully. I didn't know you were waiting in here." he asked, fidgeting with his towel. "Just waiting for you. Get over here." said Scully. Pendrell dropped his towel. Mulder paced down the hall in Scully's apartment building. Where the hell is she? He knocked on her door again. Mulder got out his cell phone and dialed her cell phone number. One ring, two rings. He heard it ringing inside. He switched off his cell phone. Where? He remembered the lock picking kit he had used last month. Mulder thought as Scully's locked clicked and the door flew open. Mulder walked in and shut the door. Angel was watching Jerry Springer. Bizarre love triangles. Angel thought as she got out of her chair. She ran to the door. She peeked out to see if the coast was clear before stepping out into the hallway. She knocked on Pendrell's door in the pattern they always used. She heard crashing from inside and the door opened. Pendrell answered with a wrinkled towel around his waist and his hair was dried weirdly. "Oh, hi Angel." Pendrell mumbled. "I came to apologize." said Angel quietly. "Why do you need to?" "I started it in the whole place. The leg brushing." "No I did. I kissed you." "I did." "No I did." "Did not." "Did too." "Not." "Too." "Not." "Shut up." "You shut up." "You." "No you." "You." "You." "You." "Ok, let's knock it off. We're like in kindergarten again fighting in front of the teacher." "Forgiven?" "Why forgiven? We did something bad. It could make our friendship blow up in our faces." "Yeah. We can't just put it behind us." "I know. We can't. It will still linger in our minds when we don't expect it." "Let's give it a farewell?" "Farewell to it." Angel leaned in to kiss Pendrell. He almost dropped his towel returning it. "Farewell to all of last night's crap." Angel waved goodbye as Pendrell shut the door. Angel whispered farewell to herself and headed back into her apartment. The chair throwing didn't matter to her anymore. The peace between her and Pendrell was settled. All was calm and tranquil. Angel went into the kitchen and started to cook one of her specialities, her cookies. Scully couldn't believe it. All this time she never had fallen for Pendrell, or let him to. There was something about his grin, it made her feel safe inside. His touch on her skin made her tremble a little, something told her that Pendrell is one of the good ones. She didn't care about Mulder at the moment. She noted again: Maybe, just maybe I'm falling in love. Mulder checked his watch. It was almost 4 PM. Where is she? He was just about ready to give up when he heard a key in the door. Scully, she's back. A few moments later, he heard her voice in her ears. Ohh, it was like music. "Mulder! Why are you here? How did you get in?" Scully asked. "I tried reaching you, but your cell phone was still on the coffee table, so I just let myself in and waited for you." answered Mulder. "Why are you here?" "I wanted to say I'm sorry for the way I acted this morning. My head wasn't on straight, I assumed a wrong thing." "You assumed a very wrong thing." "So will you forgive me?" "Sure, fine, whatever. Get out of here, I need to eat a late lunch." "I can take you out to lunch if you'd like." Mulder got up. "No, that's ok. I'll see you Monday." Scully let Mulder out. She kicked the small pot next to the door and picked up her mail. At least that's behind her. Angel stared at her cupboards. Ok, that was the last straw. Angel was ready to stomp over to the big guy and ask him for money to do some grocery shopping. A tiny feeling washed over her. At that, she knew Mulder and Scully were settled all of the night's disputes were over. She left wondering if they were actually settled.
