Title: Fun on the 4th By Wild Angel July 3, 2000 Scully's Apartment 7:02 p.m. It was a hot Friday night, Scully and her friend Kary were sitting on her couch, drinking wine and reminiscing about their high school days. It had been over 7 years since they had seen each other. Sure, they talked every once in a while on the phone, but it wasn't the same. Karys mom and Scullys mom use to be good friends, so that's how they met. And when Scully got a phone call from Kary, saying she would be visiting a place near Georgetown for the 4th, she immediatly told her to come by. Kary even looked about the same. Her light brown hair was now down to the middle of her back, she had some blonde highlights, and her eyes were the same dark green. She looked very happy and content. "Yeah," Kary said, "married life has done me good." she smiled pleasently, obviously thinking of her husband and little girl. Scully smiled too. "Well I am pleased to know that things are going well for you, Kary." Scully stated. "They really are.. and how about you, Dana? I am suprised you haven't gotten married yet. Is there anyone you are seeing?" Kary asked, curiously. Scully smiled a bit and shook her head. "Being in the FBI really doesn't give me much free time to find a relationship." she shrugged a little and took a sip of her wine. Kary nodded. "I see what you mean, I am sure that would be kinda hard." she lit up a cigerette and remembered something."Hey, how's that partner of your's? Umm, Mulder, right?" "Mulder, yes. He's good." Scully nodded, thoughtfully. "Ah," Kary started, "how about him? Is he single?" she grinned and too a drag of her cig. She always was the little matchmaker. Scully chuckled. "Yes, he is. But I think Mulder is also a little to involved in work to find anybody." Kary nodded. "Hmmmm. Both of you so involved in work, which happens to be where each of you are partners. And if I recall, correctly, you and him are... "best friends", and have been close for almost 7 years, is that right?" Kary had that gleam in her eyes and watched Scully roll her eyes heavenward. "Kary," Scully tried not to laugh, "you haven't changed a bit." Kary giggled. "I can't help it, Dana. I am all about some romance." she smiled and finished her cigarette. "So.." Kary was fixing to bring up the subject of Scully and Mulder again, but the phone rang. Scully thought. "Hello?.. Oh hi mom. ... Yes I'm fine. Sitting here with Kary Morgan, well Kary Smith now. She got married." Scully smiled over at Kary, who was listening. "Mom says hi Kary." "Tell Maggie hello for me." she smiled, thinking of when Maggie use to bake cookies for them, when they were young. she thought. She lit up another cig and drifted in and out of listening to the conversation between Scully and her mom. "Oh really? This is actually Charles' idea?... intresting. Sure, sounds fun. ...Ok I think she has plans but I will tell her. .. Umm I don't know mom. He hasn't said. ... *sigh* ok, ok.. I'll ask. But don't get your hopes up, alright?... Alright, talk to you later. Love you, bye." Scully hung up the phone, shaking her head. "So, Charlie boy has something going on?" Kary asked, intrigued. "Yes, he's renting a house out by the lake for the 4th. They said to tell you that you and your family are invited." "Oh, okay." Kary smiled. "Me and my husband are suppose to go to his grandma's house and celebrate and have dinner. But she goes to bed early, so I bet we could make it." Scully smiled, pleased. "Great, she said you could just call tomorrow and get the directions, if you decide to go. I don't even know them myself." Scully laughed lightly. Kary grinned. "What was all that about her not getting her hopes up?" "Ah, she wants me to invite Mulder. But he usually isn't the celebrating type. Though she still insists that I ask. So I guess I will." Scully smiled a bit. "Well that's nice. Even your mom likes him. That's always a plus, when the parents like a man." Kary winked at Scully and they both chuckled. "I will have to go just to meet this guy, Mulder. Should be an intresting evening." She smiled deviously before inhaling her cig. Scully's eyes went wide and her mouth dropped. "Kary! You wouldn't dare!" "Or... would I?" she said slyly, then burst into laughter. "Dana, come on. Would I do such a thing, as to... oh I don't know.. try get to people two people to see a little more clearly how maybe they should... be together.. and how maybe their could be a slight chance they are hiding their feelings for each other... because they are afraid of rejection or being hurt.. by one they love so dearly?... No way. I stay in my business only." Kary grinned, finishing another cigarette. Scully smirked. "Yeah, I think you would. And you don't know that any of what you think or say is true. Romance and Mulder and me's friendship, couldn't be any more far off from the truth than the planet to the stars. It's... it's... totally unrealistic to even think about. No way ever it would happen. We are happy just the way we are. And.. and.. I wouldn't want it any other way." Scully thought. " So.. so I think you just need to ... uh give up the.. idea of it, because it would be a total and utter waste of your time." Scully took a breath and nodded reassuring herself. Kary watched Dana, amused. A smile played across her lips. "Sure, whatever you say Dana. I will totally dismiss the whole thought of it, if that's what you want." Scully nodded. "It is... what I want. Yeah." "Okay then. Whatever floats your boat." Kary giggled a bit and looked at the time. "Almost 8, I better be going. I have a few things to pick up for the dinner tomorrow. But it was great talking to you again. And I will be sure to find out where Charles party will be from your mom, cause I wouldn't miss it for the world." Kary smiled and hugged Dana. "It was nice seeing you too Kary. And I will be looking forward to seeing you there." They both got up and Scully walked Kary to the door. "Take care." "You too!" Kary said and exited the apartment and Scully shut and locked the door. Scully sat back on the couch and streached out. She smiled thinking it was nice to have a quite evening at home, talking with an old friend. These last few cases her and Mulder had, have been so... well not relaxing in any way, shape or form. She rolled her shoulders around, trying to work out sore muscles. She looked on the table and seen Kary had left her cigs. She remembered back in high school how her and her friends would sneak behind the big oak tree and smoke for hours. She smiled at the thought. She reached over and took a cigarette out and lit it up. She inhaled the smoke and about gagged. She bent over coughing. She took it slow and finally got it going in easy after a few. Just as she finished one, she heard a knock at the door. she hoped it wasn't Kary wanting them back. She peeked through the peephole and saw Mulder's tall figure. She shoved the cigarettes in her coat hanging by the door and opened it. "Hi Mulder, what's up?" she looked him over. He was wearing jeans, a black t-shirt and his black leather jacket. She blinked at her own thoughts. Mulder checked Scully out in her slim fit jeans and rather tight, blue, sleeveless shirt and bare feet. he grinned and then remembered what he came by for. "Oh, here's the paper work you wanted to look at. I figured you wouldn't want to wait until Monday to see it." She nodded and took it from him. He stuck his head around the door and sniffed the air. Scully looked at him casually, hoping he wouldn't smell the cigarette smoke. "Do you smell.... smoke?" he looked at her, puzzled. "Um.." she decided to just explain her friend Kary came by and she smokes. That wasn't a lie. Before she could though, Mulder had a suspecision of his own. "Has that son-of-a-bitch, cancerman been here, Scully??" She could tell Mulder was getting pissed. Though he looked kind of cute being all protective. She tried to keep a straight face. "Sure Mulder, I just decided to invite him over for dinner. Would you like to join us?" Scully smirked. "Funny, Scully. Very funny." he said, deadpan. "Oh, I think that I seen a definate moment of panic in that face." she grinned. "You seen nothing. I know you better than that." he smiled his charming smile. She better change the subject, don't need to start flirting while mildly intoxicated with some wine. "Oh Mulder, my mom called tonight. Charles is having a party at a house on the lake. You're invited if you want to go with me." she studied his face. She could tell a, 'Well Scully, you know I'd love to but...' was comming on. And so it did. "Well Scully, you know I'd love to but.. I have to visit the lone gunmen and.. figure out what new conspiraceys are happening and how we can save the world. You know manly stuff. Though I would love to meet Charles and see that he does actually exist." he grinned. She shook her head and smiled a little. "Mulder, I think it will be fun for us to go out and actually celebrate something besides finding out about a new plot to destroy the earth or who else in the government we found out we can't trust or the end of a x-file, that we will never be able to explain...or.." Mulder inturrpted her. "Okay okay Scully. I'll go." he thought a minute. "Um, is Bill going to be there?" "No, he's going with his wife to Florida, to visit her parents." Scully smiled. "No excuses, Mulder. You're going. Besides my mom really wants to see you... and Kary wants to meet you." "Kary?" Mulder asked. "Is this another family member who I haven't heard of, nor seen, that exists as well?" Scully smiled. "No, she's just an old friend from school. Her and her husband and little girl may be comming." "So you have been talking about me to your friends Scully?" Mulder grinned. "Should I feel special?" Scully chuckled a bit. "Mulder, don't let it go to your head. But yes, we talked about you... a little." she figited with her fingernails, wishing this conversation would end. Mulder noticed her avoiding his gaze and decided he would drill her for details later. "Alright Scully, I'm gonna go. But don't think you're getting out of telling me what was said. I will find out!" With an emphasis on the "will" he acted like he was going to find the answer to something huge. He smiled, knowingly and Scully shook her head. "Goodnight, Mulder." with that she shut the door and sighed. "I don't think you want to know though." she said after he was gone. July 3, 2000 Scully's Apartment 10:37 p.m. Scully got ready for bed and settled in on the couch. She finished looking over the paperwork and she just got intrested in a show on tv when the phone rang. "Hello?" Scully answered. "Scully, it's me. I missed you so much I just had to call and talk to you." Mulder said, obviously joking. "Funny Mulder. What is it? Let me guess.. what time are we leaving tomorrow.. right?" Scully said, plainly. "Ah, you know me so well Scully. I think it's a sign." She could just hear Mulder grinning on the other side of the line. "Yes, a sign I am around you way to much. And 6 will be fine." Scully figured it would take an hour to get there at least and then they would eat and watch the fireworks for a bit, then the party would start. "Alright, I will see you then." They both hung up. Scully decided to go to bed. Tomorrow was going to be a long day. July 4, 2000 Scully's Apartment 6:03 p.m. There was a knock at Scully's door. She looked at the clock. She had just finished getting ready. She was wearing black pants, with black shoes, and a form fitting, rather low-cut, red, short sleeve shirt. She had her hair pinned up in a twist, with a little bit hanging down. Nothing fancy, she just knew it was going to be hot. She opened the door. "Hey Mulder," she smiled, approvingly, as he turned around for her. He was wearing black pants, black shoes and a white shirt, that looked very nice. "Not bad G-man." "Well thank you G-woman. You don't look so bad yourself." he smiled back. He watched her go get her purse. He couldn't believe how good she looked tonight. "Well I guess I am ready, let's go." she followed him down to his car. July 4, 2000 Lake House 7:12 p.m. Mulder and Scully walked through the yard and into the house, and was greeted by at least 30 different faces or more. Scully had no idea it would be this big. Not to say 30 is alot but, way more than she expected. The house was huge. There was 3 floors and right beside the lakeside. The yard was even bigger. Which seemed to be where most of the people were at. Mulder followed behind her closely. She knew where to find her mom. She led Mulder to the kitchen where Maggie was digging in the refridgerator. "Hey mom," Scully tapped her mother on the back. Maggie looked up and smiled, "Dana dear... glad you could make it." she hugged her daughter and seen Fox Mulder behind Scully. "Fox! I knew you'd come." she hugged Mulder tightly as well. Mulder smiled. "Nice to see you again Ms. Scully." "Fox, you know you can call me Maggie." She looked from her daughter to Mulder and smiled. Scully could just read her mind and brought up the first thing she could. "Have you seen Kary yet?" "No, not yet. But she did call me for the directions. They are suppose to be here later on." Maggie informed. Scully nodded. She turned to look at Mulder but was all of a sudden wrapped up in two strong arms and picked up off the ground, from behind. "Sis!!!" Charles kissed her head and put her down. She turned to look at him. "Charles!" she hugged him correctly this time. "It's so good to see you!" he smiled happily. "It's great to see you too, sis. I've missed you." "I've missed you too, Charles." she turned to find Mulder, standing against the kitchen sink, like a lost puppy. She went over and grabbed his arm and pulled him to Charles. "Charles this is my partner Fox Mulder, Mulder my brother, Charles." The men shook hands. "Nice to meet you ...Mulder?" Mulder nodded and Charles smiled. "Glad to have a face to go with the name now." Mulder grinned over at Scully. She poked him in the ribs lightly. She whispered, "I told you so Mulder!" she gave him a fake, angry glare. Mulder chuckled. "Well," Charles inturrupted, as a slim, burnette, about 5'6 came in, "this is my girlfriend, Vicki." she walked over and joined them. "Vicki this is my sister Dana and her partner, at the FBI, Fox Mulder. And you already met my mom." They all shook hands. Everyone that wasn't already outside, went into the front yard, to watch the fireworks display. Mulder, Scully, Charles and Vicki sat down in the grass waiting. Right then, Kary ran up and smooshed between Scully and Charles. "Hey hey!" Kary smiled and put an arm around both Scully and her brother. "I made it!" "Kary!" they both said in unison, and hugged her. "Where is your husband and little girl?" "Oh, Tom stayed at his grandma's with Ashlyn. She was a bit feverish. But I have the cell phone if anything happens. He said for me to go and have some fun." "Oh ok." Scully decided to go ahead and get the introducing over with, "Well Kary this is Mulder, Mulder this is Kary." Kary leaned over Scully and shook his hand, "Great to finally meet you, Mulder." She glanced at Scully with a smile and looked back at him, "I've heard soooo much about you." she winked. Scully's eye's got big and she poked Kary in the side. Kary giggled. "Is that right?" Mulder asked, suspiciously eyeing Scully. Scully thought to herself. Luckily, Charles broke in and introduced Kary to Vicki. Then the fireworks started and no one said much. Kary took the time out to notice how close Mulder sat to Scully and decided she was going to have to somehow help these love-sick fools along. After all, Dana may have told her to stay out of it.. but she didn't mean it. Kary smiled secretly and watched the rest of the display, working out a plan. July 4, 2000 Lake House 8:44 p.m. Scully, Mulder, Kary, Charles and Vicki went back in when the show was over. "So," Charles started, "how about we break out the drinks?? Unless you were wanting to eat first? Everyone's cooking hot dogs and hambugers outside." None of them was feeling hungry so they all fixed themselves a margarita. After mingling awhile, they sat down on the back rooms couch. There was a mini-bar back there hardly anyone knew about. They all sat down and started playing drinking games with the cards. They were taking shots of all sorts of liquor they found in the bar. Some they had never even heard of. Everyone was laughing and having a good time though. Even Mulder seemed quite pleased tonight. It was the first time in a long time she seen him laugh so hard and smile so big. She liked this side of him. Scully and the girls were losing bad and was having to take alot of shots. So the guys weren't as plastered as them yet. But they were getting there. A few minutes later, when the guys finally started losing, loud music came from the main room. Some guys voice yelled, "What would a party be without dancing!" alot of people cheered and the lights went off and some black lights came on. "Now that's what I'm talking about!" Charles grinned and grabbed Vicki's hand, "Come on you all! Time to par-tayyy!" Mulder jumped up ready to go to the main room as well. Vicki yelled out over the music, "You guys just want to avoid losing this game we started!!" "Yeah!!" Scully and Kary cried out. "Damn right!" Mulder and Charles both said in unison. They laughed. The girls made angry faces at them, but followed anyway, with their drinks. Just about everyone from outside came in for the dancing. It was way crowded. Scully could barely see a thing. On a drunk scale of one to ten, she was thinking she was about a ...8 or 9. she thought She held onto Mulders arm to steady herself. Mulder swayed with her a moment, not doing to good himself. He leaned down and put his lips right next to her ear, she could feel his breath on her,"Ya ok, Scully?" a chill ran through her spine and she nodded. "Peachy" she yelled back up at him. He grinned. "Then shall we?" he held a hand out to her. She took it and he pulled her close and slipped his other arm around her waist. She felt dizzy all of a sudden, she closed her eyes a moment and it passed. Mulder took her chin with his hand and lifted her head up. His gaze met hers and he leaned in again to her ear and asked, " Not falling alseep on me are you?" She smiled, drunkenly up at him, "Not hardly." He smiled back and brought her hand to his lips and kissed it, before twirling her around. Neither one of them could make out the words to the song, but it had a nice beat. Scully looked around and spotted Charles and Vicki dancing as well. She danced her way over to them, with Mulder. "Where did Kary go?" Scully asked. "She went to talk to mom for a while." Charles answered, Scully nodded. "Oh and if you two want to stay here for the night, there is plently of spare bedrooms. Don't really want you out driving after drinking like you have been." "I wouldn't be near as drunk as I am, if you and Mulder here," she poked his chest, accusingly, "didn't cheat so damn much at drinking games!" she stuck her tongue out at her brother. He laughed hard, along with Mulder. "Now that's a side I never thought I'd get to see of you Scully." Mulder said, looking down at her. "Kinda kinky." he grinned. "Well you never know, you may get to see even more, if you play your cards right." She smiled a sexy smile and winked at him. Mulder thought. He grinned, holding in his excitiment. Scully moved back into Mulder's embrace, in which he held her tightly. This felt so right to her. She argued with herself. Mulder held her close and breathed in the scent of her hair. She smelled so good. She felt good too. He wanted to tell her how great this felt, but he knew she'd just think it was the liquor talking. Maybe it would be, but it would still be the truth. It just gave him courage to say it. He decided to wait. July 4, 2000 Lake House 11:56 p.m. Almost everyone had left, except for the few who was going to stay the night at the house. Mulder and Charles and some other guys were playing pool and still drinking on the second floor. Scully and Vicki had been playing nentendo 64, mario cart, for the past hour. Kary watched and cracked jokes and made fun of whoever lost the game. She also got the refills on the drinks, so Scully and Vicki let her make fun of them. It wasn't a bad trade. Scully was getting to where she couldn't tell which car was hers and which was Vickis. Vicki kept about passing out between restarts. Kary decided she better start on her plan before Scully passed out. Or Mulder. She was sure he was drinking himself into a coma as well. "I shall return!" Kary said abruptly and left the room. Scully and Vicki concentrated on their game as hard as they could. "Damnit! Quit bumping into me!!" Scully yelled. "You started it first Dana!!!" Vicki whined back. July 5, 2000 Lake House 12:22 a.m. Kary just got everything finished that she wanted done. She smiled brightly. She left the bedroom, which was on the 3rd floor and went down one flight of stairs. She found Mulder in the pool room with some guys. He was sitting on a stool watching and drinking. She ran over to him and whispered, "Dana needs to speak with you a moment." he nodded and sat down his drink. "Where is she?" he asked, blinking to try and see Kary's face, instead of a blur. "Third floor, 4th door to the right." She smiled, a bit tipsy herself. "Right." she said again, at the confused looking Mulder. She grabbed his right hand and shook it. "This right." He grinned, nodded and walked up the stairs, waving around his right hand. Kary shook her head, giggling. She took off down the other flight of stairs. She found Dana and Vicki rolling around on the floor wrestling. "I won!!!!!" Scully yelled and laughed. "Never!!!!!!" Vicki shrieked and pinned Scully to the floor. "Oooofff!" Scully said as the air was pushed from her lungs. "Aha! Gotcha!" Vicki giggled insanely. "I'm trapped!!!" Scully screamed. "Ooookaaay," Kary busted in, she poked Vicki lightly and she went tumbling over. "Trapped. Yeah, right." she shook her head, laughing and helped Scully up. Scully looked at her amazed. "You saved me!" she hugged her tight. Kary grinned. "You can thank me later Dana. Mulder needs to talk to you right now. His on the 3rd floor, 4th door to the right. Go, go, go, now!" Scully blinked and nodded. She took off down the hall and stopped. She looked back at Kary. "The right?" she asked, confused. "Yes! The right!" Kary answered, holding back laughter. "Kay!" Scully took off up the stairs. Kary followed behind her quietly, until she got in the door, that she told her to go into. She grabbed a chair in the hallway and pushed it against the door, to lock them in. She wiped her hands off and smiled proudly. Kary went back downstairs to check on Vicki. When Scully walked into the bedroom she thought she had the wrong one for a moment, because there was candles everywhere. Along with different variaties of flowers and other smelly good scents floating in the room. But then she seen Mulder, sitting on the bed, looking around puzzled. "Mulder?" she asked. "Scully?" he asked back. "Uh.. " her head was swirling, with the liquor and that scent in the room and the sight of Mulder looking so damn fine, she had to sit down. Mulder watched Scully flop onto the floor and he blinked. "So..." she leaned back against the door, "what did you need to tell me?" He looked at her like she had 4 alien heads growing out of her. "Kary said you wanted to talk to me." he stated. She shot the same weird look back at him. They both sat there confused a minute. Then it came to Scully what Kary was doing. She smacked her forehead, and it made a loud *smack* sound, that Mulder even winced at. "I know!" she rolled in the floor laughing histerically."I know, I know, I know!" she said between fits of laughter. Mulder stared at her and couldn't help but laugh too. "Well Scully, you let me know, when you think you can get ahold of your drunkass self." He cracked up at his self. Scully then sat up, trying to be totally serious. "Mulder, I am not drunk, or rather... my ass isn't drunk!" she huffed, "if you're going to call names, do it right, say your *intoxicated self*" she snorted and fell over laughing again. He laughed with her and fell back on the bed. "So what is it you know Scully?" he managed to ask, after calming himself down. She took a breath before speaking, "Kary." "Kary?" Mulder asked. "Kary! Kary did this. She did this cause she thinks she's The Matchmaker of Matchmakers. She set this whole thing up! I know she did!" Scully said gesturing to all the flowers and candles."She just don't give up." Scully's eye's got big. "I bet she even...." she tried to open the door behind her. It didn't budge. "Yup! She even locked us in here!!" Scully was getting frantic. Mulder found it most amusing. He starting laughing again. Scully looked at him, shocked. "Just what the hell is it you find so funny Mulder?" she eyed him. "Scully, your getting worked up over nothing! We was going to stay the night here anyway. Let her have some fun. If locking us in a room is what melts her butter, so be it. It won't interfere with our plans any." he said calmly. Scully considered his words. She shrugged a bit. "Fine." she said, nonchalantly. "Who gets the bed then?" Mulder looked at the king sized bed then at Scully. She was looking at him. He looked back the bed around him and then back at her. He held his hands out and looked at her as if to say *hello?? have you seen how big this thing is?* "Ok, ok fine!! gezz, I guess we can share a bed." she said annoyed. He smiled triuphantly. "I knew you'd see things my way Scully." She rolled her eyes and sat on the side of the bed. She kicked off her shoes, as did he. They both pulled the covers over themselves, leaving the candles burning while they talked. "Hmmm I think I am comming down from my drunken high I had going on." Scully said, drowsily. "Yeah, me too," Mulder said, "I had alot of fun tonight, Scully. Really." he looked over at her and smiled. She smiled back. "I'm glad you did, so did I." she patted his arm. "Your brother is really nice. Me and him decided to hang out again sometime." She looked at Mulder, looking happy and content, for once. That made her just as happy. "Yeah, me and Vicki decided to go out and eat or go shopping sometime. She's real sweet. She does suck at mario cart though." They both chuckled. "They seem to be a happy couple, they go good together." Mulder said, quietly. Scully nodded, looking at the ceiling. "Yes, they do." she sighed, inwardly. She wished she could have a life like that. There was a long silence between them until Scully broke it. "Do you ever wish.. you had a relationship like that? And not be doing all the crazy stuff we do at the FBI and have a normal life?" she asked quietly. "Yeah, though I could never see myself, not at the FBI. But I think I might could handle that job along with a relationship. Not to say it wouldn't change down the road, and maybe I would get a more.. safe kind of job, if I was to start a family or something." Scully nodded. The thought of Mulder with a family was a sweet thought. But only if it was her in the picture. She tried to picture another woman, and it literally made her nausious. She blocked it from her mind. Mulder turned over onto his side, facing Scully, who was laying on her back. She looked over at him. "Scully.... do you ever think about.. having a relationship, with me?" He stared at her, thoughtfully. She gazed back at him. There was no sign of drunkeness or humor in his face at all. Just total seriousness. It seemed like 10 eternitys before she answered him. "Yes..." she almost whispered it. "Do you..?" He smiled softly at her and nodded. Some of the candles already flickered out and the soft glow of the others made her look absolutly stunning. He knew it had nothing to do with the liquor now. He loved this woman. He had for quite sometime. He had to tell her how he felt, there may not be another perfect moment as this one. Even if it was set up, it was near to perfect as it was going to get. Was she this nervous or what? The feeling of nausia that took her over a few minutes ago, while picturing Mulder with another woman, was still there. She knew with all her heart she loved Mulder and that he would never hurt her. And right now she was as sure as ever he felt the same way. She took a breath. Mulder gazed into Scullys blue eyes, she stared back up at him. He slowly bent down and she tilted her head up to catch his soft, moist, lips with hers. That was the idea anyway. But instead she grabbed the front of his shirt and pushed him back, as she leaped off the bed and took off for the bathroom. She leaned over the toliet and hurled up the contents that was in her stomach. Mulder was still sitting in bed, shocked. He finally snapped out of it. he jumped out of bed and ran to Scully's side. "Are you alright? Want me to get you a washcloth or anything?" he looked at her concerned. She shook her head. "I'm okay Mulder. I just should have ate before drinking that much." she flushed the toliet and he helped her up. She washed her face and brushed her teeth with an unopened toothbrush and toothpaste she found in the cabnet. She went back in the bedroom and blew the rest of the candles out. The light from the moon shone in from outside. Her and Mulder got back under the covers. Neither one was sure what to say next. "Mulder," Scully started, "I'm not going to lie to you. I am scared." she looked over at him, and could see an expression of concern on his face. "As much as I want a relationship with you and as much as I know that we would be good for each other, I can't help but be a little frightened at the same time." she bit her lip, wondering if she was making any sence at all. "I just wonder if us being together, completely, would be the right choice to make. I mean it really feels right, like tonight in your arms dancing, but... how do we know..." she trailed off, thinking. Mulder thought about his words carefully before answering. He tuned back on his side, facing her and lightly caressed her arm with his hand. "Scully, I am scared too. I have the same doubts as you and I know what you're feeling. But if we wasn't so afraid to let go, then we wouldn't feel so free when we finally did." He took her hand in his and intertwined their fingers. He seen tears comming into her eyes. "And... as for making the right choice, maybe.. there isn't any right one. Maybe there are just choices, that you have to choose from." he brought her hand to his lips and kissed it. "As many things there is in this life that I am not sure of , Scully, I am sure of this.. that no matter what happens... we will always have a strong bond between us, that nothing or no one can break. Not even us, by having a relationship that doesn't work out, that's my opinion. But I think it would work." he smiled gently She looked up at him with tears streaming down her face. "I think so too." she smiled back softly. "I love you Mulder." "I love you too Scully, always." he wiped the tears from her face, "now, where were we?" he grinned. She grinned back at him and pulled his face to hers, "Right about here." she said, right before their lips met and they had the most wonderful night of their lives. they both thought. Fin.
