Okay, if this doesn't get through, I am seriously going to scream.
I am actually typing this straight in, as the last time I tried to post, my
story didn't get through and I'm almost certain that I did all the right
things. I live in Australia so I haven't actually seen the episode that
sparked this dare but I'll give it a go anyway.

DISCLAIMER:
Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, Skinner & everyone else familiar all belong
to Chris Carter (aka. god), Ten\Thirteen Productions, and Fox Broadcasting.
Anyone else I might make up (though I don't think that there is anyone) is
mine. I take full responsibility (yes, that does mean that you can burn me
at the stake) for any lame jokes that may appear in my story. This is my
fourth post but none of my other work has gotten through so I suppose this
could be counted as a first. I've been reading this newsgroup for 8 or 9
months and I LOVE YOU GUYS! Sorry if I drag down the standard of this
creative gold-mine. Anyway, here goes...

Mulder looked down at his partner as she brushed passed him into the
elevator. Scully pushed the basement button and stood, fuming, awaiting the
elevator's descent. After it had travelled halfway down to the next level,
she pressed the emergency stop button and turned to face her confused
partner.
"Scully, what are you doing?" there was a hint of humor in his voice
at the woman's obviously furious expression. She stalked over a poked a
perfectly manicured fingernail into his chest.
"Why didn't you call? You could have picked up the damn phone and
just told me that you were alright. That you weren't dead..." tears were
forming in Scully's eyes as she spoke. Mulder was amused at the stupidity
of it all.
"I wasn't in any position to just pick up a pay phone, Scully" he
almost laughed before he saw the expression on Dana's face. Her anger had
sub-sided and was now replaced by feelings of remorse, unnecessary mourning
and deep pain. Pain that had been inflicted by Mulder's absence and the
horid thought that he could be dead.
'It's not his fault. He's right - he couldn't have called you, Dana'
she told herself. Scully broke down and Mulder held her tightly. Hot tears
flowed down her cheeks, which she made no attempt to cease.
"Thank god you're alive, I missed you so much" Scully whispered.
Mulder gently shushed her, holding her close against his chest. Dana took a
shaky breath and wiped her eyes, only Mulder could see her like this - if
you work in the FBI, you're not allowed to have feelings.
Mulder had pressed the button 4 times before admitting to his
partner that it was broken. All they could do was sit and wait for the
repairman.
"What are we going to do about Dudley?" Scully looked up at her
best-friend. Mulder stroked her coppery hair thoughtfully. He could
remember what had happened vividly...

Scully was sitting in a plastic hospital chair, obviously shaken.
Mulder walked over to her and sat down, the cheap, orange chair creaking.
She flinched but continued staring at the floor, her mind obviously
somewhere else.
"You must be hungry - how about some roast chicken?" Mulder broke
her from her trance with a sick joke. He recieved a disgusted look and
shrugged. Scully stood up and walked with her partner out of the hospital.

Mulder and Scully talked for a long time in Mulder's car, she needed
to tell someone about all of the fear and anxiety that she had undergone.
Dana poured her heart out to Mulder about the fear she had felt at the hands
of Duanne Barry and Pfaser. She remained tight-lipped about that very night
- it was still too fresh in her memory to bring up again. When Scully took
a deep shaky breath, Mulder was concerned.
"Are you sure you want to tell me this?" he asked, emphasising that
there was no pressure for her to share. She looked deep into his hazel eyes
that were full of concern and realised that she was feeling much better.
"I trust you" their eyes remained locked in a wordless language.
Scully saw the deep hunger eminating from her partners eyes, hunger, she
realised, that was mirrored in her own. She leaned over towards him, their
lips meeting in a soft kiss. A thousand emotions were raging through her
head - worry, regret, desire.
Mulder pulled back, panicked and drove to Scully's apartment as fast
as the local speed-limit would allow. As he pulled up, he stopped the car
and looked at the petite woman, that was sitting beside him, for the first
time since he started driving.
	"Mulder - I-"
"Ah, Scully..." they both spoke at the same time. Mulder cleared
his throat and spoke first.
"Scully - I'm sorry. I hope that I didn't ruin our friendship" his
expression was one of guilt and regret of what he had just done. Scully's
heart had just dropped to the ground, she had hoped that they could - well,
anything but just forget about it. She was hoping that they could take
their relationship to another level. Dana said nothing as she walked up to
her apartment, a million thoughts and 'what if's' running through her head.

The agents tried so hard to hide their secret emotions and desires
from the other, but mostly failed miserably. They couldn't deny the fact
that they loved each other. Before Scully had managed by telling herself
that Mulder didn't love her - now they both knew and couldn't deny it any
longer.

Scully found that Mulder hadn't answered her question so she asked
again.
"What are we going to do about Dudley?" Mulder looked down at her
and thought.
	"I don't know Dana, I just don't know..."

I know that wasn't very good but I wrote the first one and lost it
so I had to start over. Oh yeah, I forgot a part of the disclaimer - Thanks
to Sarah who has read a few of my other stories and told me which parts are
good and which parts are absolute crap. She didn't read this one, so I
can't put the blame on her either.

It really wasn't that bad was it?
