Sadly, we all turn to fanfic to deny that fact, so please don't deprive us from the one thing that's keeping us sane!! I'm not really stealing these characters, am I? And besides, if you sued me for it, I don't have any money to give you, so it'd be a sad day for you! FEEDBACK: Pwetty, Pwetty Pweeeeaaasse, with a chewy on top?? I would love to know how people want this to go, and I would like to know what people think about it, so talk to me!!! Send feed back to my e-mail!! Others in the Happily Ever After Series: Happily Ever After: Never Give up on a Miracle Happily Ever After: Prince Charming J. EDGAR HOOVER BUILDING So far, we haven't been caught yet. I'm sure that everyone in the Bureau already assumes that we're together, but now that we're officially an "item". No...I really don't want to say that. That language is for normal couples. Normal is NOT Dana Scully and Fox Mulder. We went seven years as partners and shared one kiss, while being in love with each other for the greater part of those seven years. Did we tell each other? Of course not. We've never really been on an honest-to-God date, but in a twenty- four hour period 3 weeks ago, we declared our love for each other, made love, and got engaged. Again, Fox Mulder and Dana Scully are NOT a normal couple. We decided that keeping our relationship on the down-low would be best for now, so my engagement ring rests on the gold chain with my cross until one of us gets the nerve to tell Skinner. "Mulder?" "Yeah Scully?" "What are we going to do about this case? They're starting to give us problems about the money we've been spending, and this case is certainly not going to help our situation." "What case?" "Exactly!! There was no case Mulder!! We flew out to California on basically nothing, and stayed there for nearly a week." "But we had a lead Scully." "Mulder..." "Okay...I'll tell Skinner about it." "No, you don't have to do that Mulder, you'll just make it worse if you do that." "huh??" "Mulder, you know that he'll yell at you if you tell him about the VERY vague lead that you got that made us go out there. And knowing you, you'll try and weasel out some kind of story..." "No I won't Scully, I'll tell him the truth" My eyes went wide at that comment, and I finally looked up at him from the computer. "What? You don't think that I can tell him the truth?" "No, it's not that Mulder. You've always tried to make up a story when you knew we'd be in trouble. That's why Skinner always asks me to handle things like this!" "I'm a changed man now Scully! Haven't you noticed?" "No...no, Mulder, I really haven't" He feigns shock and puts a hand to his heart. "Okay, I'm just thinking that we need to get on Skinners good side before we tell him about recent developments." "Ah, I see. So you're going to kiss the boss's ass so that he won't grill you for sleeping with your partner, huh?" "Yup!" "Mulder Mulder Mulder, what am I going to do with you?" "Hopefully take me home and ravage me because I'm so darn cute" "Hmmm...that sounds like an idea..." He slowly stalks over to me and leans in to kiss me when the phone rings, and we're interrupted from our private paradise known as the basement. "Mulder." "Yeah sir, we'll be right up." "Okay, thank you sir." He hangs up the phone and with a smile, pecks me on the cheek and turns to grab his jacket. "Let the ass kissing begin." ***** As we approach Skinner's office, we see Kimberly get up and walk to the door. "Sir, Agents Mulder and Scully are here to see you." "Send them in please." He tells her from his seat. We enter the office and sit side by side, preparing ourselves for a grilling about our latest case that really shouldn't have been a case. "Mulder, Scully, I'm sure that you're aware of the expense reviews that are happening in the Bureau right now." At our nod, he continues. "Recently, I see that you flew out to California to investigate a case that had no suspects named or apprehended. Is that correct?" I was starting to speak when I remember what Mulder told me in the office. "Sir, if I could, I would like to apologize for that. I received a tip from someone out in California that I really shouldn't have taken seriously. I made a stupid choice to pursue a case that really had no merit, and spent a lot of the Bureau's money in doing so. I'm sorry about that, and I assure you that Agent Scully and I are going to start doing a lot more work here on cases before we go out and waste the Bureau's resources." As Mulder spoke, I was utterly amazed... and easily saw that so was our Assistant Director. While Mulder spoke, Skinner's mouth seemed to grow more and more agape with awe at Mulder's odd admission of being wrong. It was a good two minutes before Skinner found words to reply. "Um... Agent Mulder, thank you for being so honest about this issue. Um...I wasn't expecting... Ah hell, Mulder, what's wrong with you?" A small laugh escaped my lips as Skinner inquired into Mulder's odd behavior. "I just realized that I've cost the Bureau a lot of money over the years, and I figured that now's as good a time as any to really work on that." "After over ten years, you just up and decide this?" "Well-" "And of course this sudden change wouldn't have anything to do with the ring that sits around Agent Scully's neck, now would it?" My face turned instantly red, and my eyes and mouth grew wide at his knowledge of what Mulder called "recent developments". "Uh..." "Can it Mulder, I've been waiting nearly seven years for this day. I'm happy for the two of you." After being so quiet this entire meeting, I finally decided to chime in. "How did you know?" "Water cooler talk. The entire Bureau has known about it for about two and a half weeks." "I only proposed three weeks ago!" "Word spreads fast. It's not that big of a shock though. Everyone's thought you've been together forever." "We thought that no one knew about it though." "Well, Scully, while you and Agent Mulder have always been the hot topic around the water cooler, you've never really been in the loop." "I see... Well, we won't let this affect our work at all sir." "I know it won't. These past three weeks, aside from this expense issue, I haven't had any problems out of you two at all. That hasn't happened since the X-files Division was started up! Now, I believe that you've come across some new cases, so you need to get to work. You're dismissed." "Thank you sir." We say in tandem. "Oh, Agents?" We both turn with questioning glances. "Congratulations, and I'm hoping to be in attendance on the big day." "Certainly sir." As we step out into the waiting area, Mulder stops me, and starts to undo the necklace around my neck. "Mulder, what-" "They already know, so what can this hurt?" At the smiling eyes of Skinner's secretary, Mulder takes the ring off its chain and places it on my left ring finger. We both turn towards the sniffle coming from Kimberly's desk. "Kim?" "Oh, don't worry about it...I've always been a sap for stuff like this...Congratulations!" "Thank you." Mulder says as his hand returns to the small of my back, guiding me through the hallways. This time, the looks were blatantly obvious as we made our way down to the office. With the engagement ring in plain sight and a stupid grin on Mulder's face, everyone knew for sure that Mr. and Mrs. Spooky were the real deal. By the time we got back to our office, Mulder's grin was still plastered on his face. "Mulder, you can wipe that funny grin off your face now, no one's down here." "Can't a man smile cause he's happy?" I shake my head and sit down at the computer, starting to work, when Mulder comes up behind me and starts kneading my shoulders. "Hey Scully, do you know what day it is?" "Friday" "What do you say we start our weekend off early?" "Only if you promise to keep doing that when we get home." "You have my word, love." "Well, then let's play hooky!" I quickly get up from my chair and give him a kiss on the lips before grabbing my jacket. ***** "Scully, what do you think about a house?" "What do you mean?" "You know, buying a house. Me and you." "What's wrong with moving into my apartment?" "Nothing, I'm just saying that it'd be nice." "While that does sound nice, it'd be a waste of money. A house is too much space for two people." "What makes you so sure that only two people are always going to live there." Ouch. I know what he's getting at, but I'm not ready for this conversation yet. "Mulder, I can't do this." "It's just something to think about Scully, I'm not..." "Mulder, it's okay, I'm not angry. I'm just not ready to talk about this yet, okay?" "yeah, okay. Hey Scully?" "Yeah?" "I love you." "And I love you." Taking my hand from the center console, he places a kiss on the back, and then intertwines our fingers together. ***** Playing hooky, surprisingly takes more energy than you think...at least for Mulder and I it does. After grabbing Chinese food, we sat together on the couch with our respective books, and attempted to read. I read the same sentence for a half an hour, being distracted by having him so close. The distraction led to the obvious... two times. After the latest rendezvous, we decided to cuddle up on the couch in a blanket and watch a movie. An hour into the movie I fell asleep. Around 11 o'clock, I woke up, being carried into the bedroom by the man that I love. "You were supposed to stay asleep." He whispered softly to me as he placed me on the bed. "How did the movie end?" "Boy gets girl and they live happily ever after." "Mulder, is that us?" I ask him as he climbs in bed behind me, spooning against my back. "Are we happily ever after?" "Yes, we are. We were made for each other Scully. I'm more sure of that than anything." I turn in his loose embrace so I can face him. "Mulder, what took us so long?" He smiles back at me, "I don't know. I just don't know." I go to turn back, and I feel a pinch in my back and a small moan escapes my lips. "That wasn't a good moan Scully, what's wrong?" "You remember that back massage you promised to finish?" "You got it babe." Tension starts to slide off my body as his large hands softly massage away the knots acquired during our last two gymnastic sessions. I am certainly not as young as I used to be. Sometime later, I slipped into dreamland and Mulder's arms enclosed around me for a peaceful night's sleep. ***** We're awoken at ten o'clock by the telephone ringing loudly from Mulder's side of the bed. "This better be good." "Hello?" "Hey mom..." "We were actually still in bed." "No don't worry about it." "Yeah, she's awake, do you want to talk to her." "No, we're just going to relax around the house today." "Oh, okay." "Bill suggested us?!" "No, no, yeah, sure, we'll watch him." "Tell Bill to bring him over then, unless you want me to come get him." "Okay, I'll be there at noon then." I turn to him as he hangs up the phone. He wraps his arms around me and proceeds to fall back asleep. "What was that all about?" "We're watching Matt for the day. Bill and Tara are in town again, and they made plans for the day." "Why can't mom do it?" "She said that she had stuff to do, and Bill suggested that we sit with him." "Bill?!" "That's what she said. I told her that I'd be there to pick him up at noon then." "So we've got an hour longer to sleep then?" "Sure, if sleep is what you want to do." A smile creeps across my face at his insinuation. "What else could we do?" "I have no idea," he says while starting to rub circles up and down my back. "Mulder, you're unbelievably impossible, you do know that don't you?" "But you still love me." "God help me!" I shout as I pull him to me. What a fabulous way to wake up in the morning! Considering how tired we're going to be after today, I don't mind this at all!
