Author's Notes: Okay, this may be a little depressing
in some ways, but hopefully it will also be
inspirational to the dreamer X-Philes. Read it
                 and see what you think!

You were supposed to be here,

but you're not.

You were supposed to hold me,

but you're not.

You were supposed to wait for me,

but you didn't.

Why have you left me, Mulder? What wrong must you set
right today? What life must you save, what atrocity must
you prevent?

You run off at the drop of a hat on a whim, and refuse
to keep your feet planted for more than a day. You
constantly blow me away with your theories and paranoia,
but I never thought for a moment that you'd actually act
on them after what has happened between us. I thought
that you'd stay with me. I thought that you'd want to
be here with me; that perhaps fatherhood would be your
new mojo, your life force. Maybe I thought too much.

You're a runner, Mulder. You always have been.
You take off when you think you can save something dear.
When someone dangles a carrot in front of you, you don't
nip--you bite. Hell, you'd probably ask for another.
But that's one of the most endearing things about you,
Mulder. You're a fighter. I can only hope and pray that
you'll be a winner this time. God help me if I have to
bury you again.

Every time that I look at William, I see your face shining
back at me. Although he looks more like Skinner, as you
once told me, I see you in him. I see your courage and
your strength in his eyes, and that, in itself, has been
a great comfort to me.

I know you're doing this for us, and for William. You leave
me just when life was beginning to look good, and run off to
fight the aliens again. Do you have any idea how afraid for
you I am? No, you don't. And maybe, that's a good thing.
If you knew, you wouldn't have gone, and the world wouldn't
be as safe as it is with you on its side.

You're a hero, Mulder.

You are my hero. You're William's hero. You are once again
putting your life on the line for mine, and I don't know
whether to kiss you for it or kick your ass. Hopefully, I'll
have the chance to do both.

But Mulder, I want you to know that my door will always
be open to you, and that my home is yours. In my arms you
will always find your refuge. I think you already know that,
but in some strange way I feel that I should confirm it.
You always seem to know what I'm thinking, so in this way
I suppose I can communicate with you like no other.

I love you, Mulder and I want you back. William wants you
back. Hell, I think Frohike is a little lonesome without you
as well. I know you'll come home when you're ready; when it's
safe. When the danger of the unseen forces of darkness has
been dampened, I know that you'll come home.

You always do.

All my love,

       Scully

Tha End.
