Summary: Scully and Skinner have a talk about Mulder's disease, and don't worry, she always knew about it. See author's notes at the end. Disclaimer: The X-Files and the characters used here belong to Chris Carter, Ten Thirteen, and FOX. I also used pieces of dialogues from The Gift, but I changed them a little. The Hidden Truth A.D. Skinner was finishing organizing his table when he heard a knock at his door. "Come in," he said, already knowing who would be at the other side. "Did you want to see me, sir?" Scully asked, wondering what this was all about. "Yes, agent Scully, please take a seat." She sat at her usual chair and glanced at the empty chair next to hers. Would it be empty forever, she thought, then reprimended herself. Of course not, he would be back one day, he had to. Skinner's voice took her out of her reverie. "I want to talk to you about a case agent Mulder was investigating before he disappeared." "What case, sir?" "One in Pennsylvania." Scully visably swallowed, he couldn't know, could he? "I'm not aware of it, sir." She said, then looked down when his eyes met hers. She was not good at lying. "Cut the crap, Dana, I know all about it." He stood up, pacing to the window. He turned back to her. "Three shots were fired in a house where Mulder investigated this case last May. The bullets match the ones in the weapon he carried on his anckle hoster. He was investigating a man who allegably could cure all diseases. Mulder submitted case reports that indicate he was here in Washington on days his cell phone records prove he was in Pennsylvania. You signature was on those reports too, Dana." He walked to the empty chair next to hers and sat. "You knew, didn't you? You knew Mulder was dying." An affirmation, not a question. "Yes." She said simply. He sighed. "Why didn't you tell me?" She looked at him. "Because Mulder asked me not to." She said by way of explanation. "But he went to Pennsylvania without my knowledge, and when he got back, he told me what had happened and why he did... what he did." Tears were treaming down her face now. "He was like that, you know, he wasn't selfish, and he couldn't stand to have that creature be in more pain because of him." He took his glaces off and sighed. "Dana you know I'm on your side, don't you? You know you can talk to me." "I know that sir, and I appreciate it, but I couldn't and can't betray Mulder's trust." He looked down and put his glasses back on. Sensing the conversation was over, she got up and moved towards the door. When she was almost there, she turned back to him. "How did you find out about this case, sir?" "Agent Doggett." He said. "But don't worry, he doesn't plan on using this against you." She nodded once and left. Agent Doggett was about to get a earful. The End Author's notes: I decided to write this fic beacause to me Scully knew about Mulder's disease or she wouldn't have signed those reports without knowing what it was about, even if it was for Mulder. And to me she was just faking not knowing to protect him in Withing/Without the same way she did in Redux. Feedback? msmessina@yahoo.com.br
