Mulder can think of someone other than himself.occasionally. (Insert disclaimer here.) I was appalled and disgusted with Chris Carter that he would actually accuse Mulder of taking advantage of an emotionally drained Scully. So, in the fashion of a truly loyal fan, I invented my own theory on how Scully could possibly get into the medically impossible scenario! How it happened. Mulder sat before the computer screen, reviewing everything that had occurred over the last few hours. Everything had occurred literally, as spoken. Though interpreted incorrectly, every wish had been fulfilled.to the letter. Mulder shut off the computer screen, turning to his companion. "Can a wish have an addendum?" The Jinn gave him a suspicious glance. "How do you mean?" "I alone cannot solve the world's problems. I've come to realize this. No matter how well I phrase the request, something may go wrong, and I would be responsible. I'm tired of being the catalyst to all things unjust." The Jinn smiled. "Go on." Mulder leaned back in his chair. "If I grant you your wish, will you be able to use your vast powers to help another?" "You would use your last wish to release from my own folly?" Mulder nodded thoughtfully. "Would your gratefulness extend to one additional wish? Actually more of a request." "Is this additional wish for you?" The sarcasm edged into her tone. Mulder sighed. "Someone I care about was harmed because of my actions. My partner, Dana Scully, was abducted several years ago and was forced to undergo scientific experiments. These invasive procedures left her barren. I want to correct that mistake. Medical science is unable to help her, but you could." "And by healing her, you heal some of your guilt." "Partly, though I don't think I'll ever truly forgive myself." "There's not much written about how my being freed will effect my powers. I may not be able to help you." The Jinn answered truthfully. "I don't think it works that way." Mulder hypothesized. "My freeing you shouldn't have any adverse effects on your abilities." "You're quite sure of yourself." Mulder shook his head. Casually he glanced around his office, taking in the slow sweep of his gaze, the body of his life's work. "I'm not sure of anything anymore." The Jinn gave him a moment to ponder. "I promise you." She started, moving around the desk. "That I will fill your request, if I am still capable. There are no guarantees." She cautioned once more. "I understand." "All right, you know what you need to do." Mulder closed his eyes, and took a deep, cleansing breath. "I wish to set the Jinn free." Love to all, Ubrscullie @aol.com
