Head (AFBrat001@aol.com) Classification: VA M/S UST Rating: G Summary: The title explains it all Spoilers: Duane Barry, Ascension, One Breath, and a teeny-tiny one for Unusual Suspects Author's notes: (I'm an Author!!!) Well, here's another first time poster. I can't say author cause I've written some other stuff, though it really sucked. I have read so much about Scully's abduction and loved it all. But I was sitting in my Religion and Politics class and started wondering exactly how the Gunmen found out about everything that was happening during the three months (I like that better than the Christmas Carol/Emily dates) that Scully was missing. I hadn't read anything about it so. . .this story was the result. Disclaimer: Oh, do I have to? Fine, but since I'm studying syllogisms, I'll use one. Chris Carter, 1013, and Fox own the X-Files and its Characters; I am not CC, 1013, or Fox; Therefore I do not own The X-Files and its Characters. And now. . .How the Gunmen Found Out In the office of the Lone Gunmen, everything was quiet for once. Byers was staring intently at some documents purportedly explaining the link between the CIA, Microsoft, and the IOC. Langly was trying to hack into the IRS database to make sure that the person who had cut him off that morning would be audited and Frohike was reading an advance copy of "Celebrity Skin." The quiet was shattered by a frantic pounding on the door. Warily, Byers opened the door, prepared for anything but what he saw--a frantic and disheveled Fox Mulder. Mulder pushed past Byers and said, "She's gone--I need your help." "Who's gone?" Langly asked. "Scully!" Frohike's eyes widened in shock. How!" With the voice of someone in deep shock, Mulder explained the whole Duane Barry affair, ending with the discovery of Krycek's duplicity and the re-opening of the X-Files division. The Gunmen sat in stunned silence for an instant, than sprang into action: Byers began calling his sources, while Langly and Frohike each dove for computer and began hacking into various databases. Mulder just sat there, observing the activity and answering the occasional query. He allowed himself for a few minutes--at last something was being done. Over the next for months, the Gunmen found several leads and Mulder investigated every one of them, but none of them were the real thing. As each lead failed, all of them became more and more desperate. Mulder contacted them at least once a day, usually two or three times a day. Then there was no contact for three days. Worried, the Gunmen went to his apartment--Mulder wasn't there. More worried than before, they returned to the office where they hacked into the FBI mainframe--something that was almost routine to them after knowing Mulder since 1989. There, they discovered that he had requested an indefinite leave of absence for "personal" reasons. By know, they were even more worried--if that was possible. It was Frohike who made the connection. "The only thing that would keep Mulder away for so long was if he had found a lead, but he would have asked us for more information. . .or if Scully had come back!" Once again they all dove for their computers. Byers was the one who finally found her. He announced her condition to the room in a flat voice: "She's in critical condition. She's in a coma and the decision to remove life support has been made." The three sat in silence. There was nothing they could do for her now. Suddenly Frohike got up and left the room. Byers and Langly stared after him for a moment, then each tried to distract themselves--Langly by mindlessly surfing the `net and Byers by making a start on the next month's magazine. Frohike re-entered the room wearing his "dress-up" clothes. "I'm going to visit her." he announced. When he returned he had two surprises with him--Scully's chart and Mulder. No one knew what to say to Mulder in this situation. Frohike and Langly tried trading wisecracks with Mulder and with each other, and though he responded, it was not with his usual dry wit. Byers, on the other hand, did not even try to talk to Mulder. He was focusing his attention on solving the problem. When he had to tell Mulder what the prognosis was, he couldn't even look at him. When Mulder left, once again they were left in silence. They heard nothing from him for several days--which in some ways was a comfort, because they knew that the next time they heard from him, he would be announcing Scully's death--and with it, his own. They had even avoided checking the hospital records--they just didn't want to know. The news came in a phone call, but it was not the news they were expecting. It came in the form of a short phone call. Instead of his normal "Turn off the tape," the first words out of his mouth were, "She's awake! She's going to be okay!" Frohike's eyes filled with tears when Langly relayed the news to him. Mulder was so excited, he was tripping over his words. Langly put the phone on speaker and in the background they could hear a welcome noise--Scully's soft voice. Mulder talked to her for a second then came back to the phone. "Frohike, pick-up the phone. Scully wants to talk to you for a second." His eyes widened and he picked up the phone with a shaking hand. Scully's voice came over the line. "I wanted to say thank you for the flowers. They are beautiful." "Y. . .your welcome Scully. I'm glad you liked them." Frohike couldn't believe his goddess had liked his offering. "I really did. Thank you." With that, she handed the phone back to Mulder. "Guys, thanks for all your help. I'll call you later." After Mulder hung up, the Gunmen exchanged smiles. It was good to have them back. The End Well that's it. Please forgive me any errors. I wrote this without access to my tapes of the show!!! Notice I did not make a plea for feedback!!
