If anyone tries to sue me I shall laugh at the fact that you think I could make money from this piece of junk! Oh, Michelle is mine! hahaha! Category: Vignette, Angst, and a hint of MSR, oh, and Krycek/Other UST Spoilers: None, but I suggest you read my other story I Changed before this one. Archive: Yes, but not to ATXC because I do that on my own. Author's Note: Thank you Thank you Thank you all who supported I Changed. I had such an overwhelming response that I decided to write a sequel. Cool, eh? Get this, I might make it a trilogy! I know a lot of you are just like " Who cares?" But this was a big deal for me. My other works include Breath of Heaven, A State of Drunkeness, I Changed, and I Believed the Lie **which is NOT a Post-Gethsemane story** I really didn't lie in my other author's note in I Changed where I said my next story would have lot's o Scully. I wrote I Believed the Lie after I Changed, and that one has Scully. This one has no Scully. I'm sorry, ok? *ducks while flames are thrown* Rating: PG. No big sex scenes, no long verbal cussing arguments, but Krycek's in it, so you have to make it PG, right? It's PG because a)there is some bad language b)there is a lot of emotional anguish for Mulder in this story Summary: After his deal with the devil, Mulder must confront him, and is, instead, confronted by confusing questions about his own identity. I Changed 2: Confronting the Devil Christina Ortega I shiver as bone-chilling raindrops trickle down my neck. The night is cool and dark. Rain has just begun to fall. Still, I am already soaking wet. Running a hand through my dampened hair I look around to see if he is coming. One month earlier I had sold myself to the devil, and today was the day I knew I would end up regretting it. My black jeans are already plastered against my legs, and I feel droplets of rain pounding against my feet and being absorbed by the leather shoes which moistens my toes. A woman dressed in all black walks up the concrete path with an umbrella and passes me slowly. I follow her with my eyes yearning for the umbrella. She turns to face me, giving me a questioning gaze, " Mr. Mulder?" I am alert now. Who is this woman? " Who are you?" " The man you were to meet tonight is unavailable. I've been instructed to keep you at my home for the night. He will meet you in the morning," She replied, not answering my question. I simply nod, wanting nothing more than to enter a warm building. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx It takes about five minutes for me to peel the gray shirt off my body. After shedding the shirt, I glance around the tidy bathroom. The large window is inviting to me, so I casually walk over to it and open it, as if demon-possessed. Gazing out into the night sky, now clear and star-filled, I let my mind wander. Immediately thoughts of Scully come rushing into my head. I try to imagine what she is doing now, and a small smile flashes across my face. " The sky is beautiful, isn't it?" I almost jump, startled by the voice. Spinning around, I find myself face to face with a person I had come to know very well. Alex Krycek. "It's just so large, and sometimes I wonder what civilizations are exsisting outside out own Earth. Isn't it amazing, Mulder? There's probably another lifeform, at this moment, looking at the stars wondering if they're alone in the universe as well." " What are you doing here?" I ask. I just hope that he will tell me what he wants quickly and leave so that I can just take a long shower and go to sleep. Krycek grins, " Just wanted to talk, Partner." My eyes widen. What did Krycek call me? " Partner?" Krycek's grin widens. I want nothing more than to rip that smug smile off his face. " Take a good look at your new partner. I'm sure I won't compare with Agent Scully, but hey, we were great partners before... you know..." Krycek? My partner? " How did I get stuck with you?" Krycek's smile seems to disintigrate, and he seats himself on the pink toilet seat (which was closed, luckily), " I'm in a tough position, Mulder. That smoking bastard has me in a corner, and so I've had to join up with him again." I merely nod. If this meeting would have taken place a few months before I would have shot Kryek without thinking, but not now. Especially after that one night at the bar. Krycek had stood up for me against that black-lunged sonofabitch, and I knew Krycek would never seem as evil in my eyes as he once did. Krycek coughes, " I'll leave you to shower and everything." He stands, ruffles his hair, and turns to leave, but I stop him, " Who is that woman out there?" " You don't know Michelle? She's really nice, you should get to know her." With that, Krycek steps out of the bathroom, shutting the door behind him. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx It is 2:00am and all I want to do is sleep, but I know that we have to go. I sit in a plush flowered chair. My hair, which had grown about a 1/2 and inch longer since the month before, hangs over my forehead. Because my other clothes are still drenched from the night before I had been forced to borrow some of Krycek's clothing which, surprisingly, fit me quite well. The black short-sleeved shirt is a little too small for me, but the blue jeans fit nicely, as do the black sneakers. Krycek sits across from me on the kitchen counter. He is dressed in a black silk shirt and black jeans with black leather shoes. It is at this point that I am able to recognize the differences in his appearence from a month ago. His hair has grown considerably longer since I saw him last. It has also grown quite lighter, and after asking him if he colored his hair, he merely chuckled and went on with what he was doing. My thoughts were interrupted by the entrance of Michelle, who is dressed in a black spaghetti strap dress. A black sweater is draped over her shoulders, and a black purse hangs from her right arm. As Michelle runs a hand through her light brown hair, I study her. In all honesty, I find her to be quite lovely, and I might have been drawn to her beauty if I hadn't been so depressed. There is only one person that I love. Scully. I need my Scully. I need her petite form in my arms, her red hair falling onto my chest as we embrace. I feel a large wave of guilt and sorrow run over me, and, for a small moment in time, I feel tears threatening to spill from my eyes, but this quickly passes and I force myself to regain control. Putting my attention back on the present, I glance over at Krycek. Once I do, I force myself to choke down a fit of laughter. He seems hypnotized by Michelle, watching her intensly. Michelle notices Krycek's eyes boring into her, and turns to me, blushing. I smile, wondering if Michelle was as enchanted by Krycek as he was by her. "Where are we meeting him?" I ask, breaking the silence. I watch as Michelle regains her composure. "A warehourse on the outskirts of town.," She answers, cooly. "Let's get going then," Krycek says, grabbing his leather jacket from a chair next to him. Grabbing my black jacket I walk over to the door and open it, waiting as Krycek and Michelle glance at eachother once more. After a brief moment they follow me out of the room. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Though the warehouse is large, I can already feel his presence. He is here, and I can't help but feel nervous about seeing him again. The warehouse is cold and damp. I pull my jacket tighter and shiver as cool air hits my face from a vent above my head. "We should spread out," Krycek suggests, and though I can tell that he is trying not to show his fear, I hear the crack in his voice. Michelle nods and starts in the other direction. Krycek turns to his left and goes down a hallway, leaving me to search the area. Suddenly I feel something hard crash into my back, and I go tumbling forward. Before I can hit the ground strong hands grab my arms and pull me up. I am about to turn my head to look at my captor, but a painful blow to my head stops me from doing so. "Are you Special Agent Fox Mulder?" A strong voice murmurs in my ear. I nod, trying to get my eyes to focus after being shaken so violently by the blow. Before I can brace myself, my captor tosses me onto the floor, sending me crashing into a pile of crates. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx TO BE CONTINUED... I Changed 2: Confronting the Devil 2/2 "Agent Mulder, you're looking slightly pale. Have you been eating regularly?" Cancerman asks sarcastically. I'm thrown onto the ground and bump into Krycek who had been sitting with his back against one of the crates. Wordlessly, I wipe the blood from my brow that is flowing from a small gash on my head. Turning back to Cancerman, I simply say, "I'm not an Agent anymore." Cancerman looks at me, and for a brief moment I see a flash of amusement flicker in his eyes, "Well then, who are you?" "Fox Mulder," I state, tersly. "Fox Mulder?" the CSM questions, feinting innocence, "but Fox Mulder is an FBI Agent. If you aren't an FBI Agent then you aren't Fox Mulder!" "Cut the crap, you asshole!" I exclaim, cursing the shakiness in my voice. At that moment, Michelle is lead down the hall by another man, and is pushed down on top of Krycek. She eyes me, before turning her attention to Cancerman. He takes no notice of Michelle, keeping his eyes on my face. Uncomfortably I force myself to look away before I am mesmorized by him. Seeing that I have turned away, the CSM steps closer, stopping only in front of my feet. Bending down, Cancerman moves his face closer to mine, "Look at me," I don't budge, feeling nausea rippling in my stomach as a cloud of smoke hits my face. I gasp for oxygen, trying to find some air that does not reek of cigarettes. When I can't get any clean air, a fit of coughing clenches my lungs, and I begin to shake, a wave of sickness rushing over my body. I hear Cancerman backing away, and I look up at him. He is glaring at me; a look of disgust crossing his face. He composes himself, and seems to be examining me with his eyes. At this point in time I feel vunerable like a little child that is surrounded by many people older than he. "Are you Fox Mulder?" He asks, calmly. "Yes," I reply, surprised by the demon-like tone of my voice. "Are you really?" Cancerman says, urging me on, "Would Agent Dana Scully be able to recognize you?" Scully. The bastard! How dare he bring her into this! Then, as I think about his words, I realize the truth in them. I've abandoned her. I've left her to fend for herself. I loved her, and then abandoned her. She must hate me. If I returned, would she welcome me back or leave me to die alone? Scully... "You've changed. If you returned, she would be repulsed by your hideousness. You've become a monster!" At first, I don't comprehend his words. My appearence hasn't changed, besides the gash that is still bleeding on my head, and a few bruises on my face. Then, it dawns on me: I have changed! I have become so depressed and quiet. If Scully were to see me, would she know who she was looking at? She wouldn't know who I am! Who am I? "Now, tell me who you are," Cancerman says, breaking my train of thought. "Fox Mulder," I whisper, not believing my own words. The name meant nothing to me, but I clung to it because I was so frightened of not being anybody. I had become merely a pawn, not even priveledged enough to be called a human. "I can tell you don't believe your own words," Cancerman says, taking a cigarette from his pocket and lighting it, "Now," He takes a puff of the cigarette, "Who are you?" "I don't know." "Mulder, don't listen to him," Krycek says, nudging my shoulder. I don't hear him. My mind is in a whirl, and I struggle to keep my thoughts clear. "Are you Fox Mulder?" The CSM asks, taking another puff of his cigarette. My heart is racing now. "I don't know," I reply. Michelle is still looking at me intently, and now she is looking at me with a deeply concerned expression. Scully used to look at me like that. Scully... "Who are you?" "I Don't Know!" I cry. I can feel the tears burning my eyes; trickling down my chin. "Mulder, stop it!" Krycek yells, shaking me, but I don't acknowlege him. Cancerman is bending down in front of me once again. He's so close to me that I can feel his icy breath on my neck. Chills run down my spine as the CSM leans forward and caresses my cheek. I try to move away, but I can't. I am frozen in place, unable to do anything but watch as Cancerman wipes the tears from my eyes. "I'll show you who you are, who you are meant to be," Cancerman says. His voice is soothing, and I'm hypnotized by it. Krycek, however, is not, and takes that opportunity to spit at him. The CSM turns from me and looks at him, "That wasn't very mannerly, Mr. Krycek." "Leave him alone, you asshole!" Krycek growls. "Why don't you let him choose who he wants to stay with," the CSM suggests, still rubbing my face. Krycek stands, pulling Michelle to her feet. Then, he looks down on me, "Let's get out of here, Mulder." I stare at him, blankly. Who is that guy? What did he just call me? I turn back towards the man that is rubbing my face, "Who are you?" "I'm your gaurdian," The man replies. He runs a hand through my hair, and I get a cold feeling in my stomach. "Don't listen to him, Mulder! Snap out of it!" Krycek yells. "Stay with me, son," the CSM says, rubbing my hand. Did he just call me his son? Who are these people? I know their names, but I don't remember anything about them. Michelle, who had been holding Krycek's hand, lets go, and walks closer to me, "Mulder, come with us." My mind is opaque, and I'm struggling to keep my eyes focused. I want to sleep...just to close my eyes, and forget the present...*slap* I jerk my eyes open, desperately trying to clear them. I see Krycek hovering above me, glaring at me with eyes of stone, "Don't do this, Mulder! We expect more of you, and what about Scully? She needs you, Mulder! Now, get up!" Scully...my angel... I need my angel. I begin to reach up to Krycek's hand when powerful hands push me to the ground. "You walk out that door, Mulder, and you will be killed. I garentee, you'll never be safe again!" Cancerman yells. Slowly, I rise, and I begin to walk towards the door of the warehouse only to find that my legs are still unstable. Quickly, Michelle and Krycek drape my arms around their shoulders, and support me out of the warehouse and into the car. "Are you ok, Mulder?" Michelle asks, sitting next to me in the backseat of the car. She seems to be checking me over for injuries, using tissues to wipe the blood from my brow. "I need to sleep. I'm so tired," I moan, laying my head against the window of the car. Michelle nods, and rests her back on the car seat. As Krycek drives down the road, my eyelids begin to droop, and so I barely notice when Michelle pulls me onto her lap and strokes my hair. The rhythm of her hands soothe me, and lull me to sleep. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx I awake to the sun pouring into the creme-painted room. Rubbing my eyes, I try to sit up, but am stopped by a tremendous pounding in my head. Feeling my forehead, my hands come across a bandage draped just under my hairline. Pushing on it lightly, I almost jump at the pain the small action causes. Michelle walks in, smiles, and sits on the bed that I am on, "How you feeling?" I look her over. She is dressed in a gray shirt with black stretch pants that tightly hug her legs. "I have a huge headache, but besides that, I'm ok," I reply, rubbing my temple. She looks at me, concerned, "Do you remember last night?" Try as I might, the night before was hazy, "We were at the warehouse trying to find Cancerman. A man hit my head, and later brought me to him. Krycek was there, and so were you, but that's all I remember. What happened?" Michelle bites her lip before continuing, "I think I should wait until you feel a little better before I tell you about last night." "I can h-handle it, Michelle," I try to convince her, feeling betrayed by the stutter in my voice. Michelle smiles, and rubs my shoulder, "It's not just you, but it's me, as well. I'm not ready to talk about it." At that moment Krycek walks in, carrying in a bag. Opening it, he pulls out three muffins. As the aroma meets my nose, I feel my stomach begging for something to enter it. "How you feeling, Partner?" Krycek asks, sitting on the other side of the bed. He's dressed in a white shirt and blue jeans. "Hungry," I reply, gazing at the muffins. Krycek smiles and hands one to me, then he hands one to Michelle. Greedily, I take a huge bite. While chewing, I look up to see Krycek and Michelle looking at me with anticipation. "What?" I ask, my voice muffled by the food in my mouth. "Nothing. Just wanted to make sure you would eat," Krycek replies, tersely.I decide to leave it at that. "You know that Cancerman is going to be looking for us," Michelle says, a look of worry crossing her face. "We have to stay alert," I say, a frown tugging at my lips. "We? You'll be willing to stoop to our level?" Krycek asks nudging my shoulder. I grin, "I'm going to have to. Besides, you guys could benefit from my excellent FBI training!" Krycek smirks. Michelle giggles before grabbing my hand, "Partners, then?" "Partners," I agree, rubbing her hand. Krycek puts his hand on both of ours, "I'm in, too." We sat there wordlessly. None of us knew what the future would bring, but we all knew one thing: our lives would never be the same. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx The end? It depends... do y'all want this to be a 3 parter, or should I quit at 2. I have an idea for the 3rd story, but if I don't get any feedback... then I'll probably not write it, so please, send me your compliments, complaints *except if it's just hat this story had no Scully*, and ideas for the 3rd and final story... if you want one. I'm at Rkacat@aol.com. Thanks for reading!
