AUTHOR: Julia Harris E-MAIL: juliaharris@webtv.net ARCHIVE: Please feel free, just be sure everything stays intact, and please let me know where it goes. THANKS! SPOILERS: All Things, Triangle. and Millennium RATING: PG CONTENT: Mulder/Scully Romance (Is there another kind?) CLASSIFICATION: Short story KEYWORDS: MSR, very near fluff SUMMARY: What should have happened at the end of "all things... DISCLAIMERS: The characters, situations, and storylines of the X-Files belong to the great Chris Carter and company at FOX, 10-13, etc. Mulder, Scully, and their recent encounters are borrowed with love but without permission. No copyright infringement is intended. Thanks for letting me borrow them. AUTHOR'S NOTES: I haven't written anything in nearly two years so I'm a bit rusty at this. I'm also a teacher, not a writer so bear with me! I've seen lots of great episodes over the past two years, but none have made me want to take the time to write again until "all things" last Sunday night. I put off writing it because I didn't think I had the time. Then, after going to see "Return to Me" (Mr. Duchovny's new movie), and hearing a certain line at the end (you'll find it in here!) I found myself writing another fanfic this evening. So here it is: A story I have written, edited, and posted all in about two hours time. Please accept the errors and brevity of the story, and enjoy it for what it is. An escape we'd all like to see our favorite agents take. Feedback is welcome at the address listed above. If you like what you read, my other three stories can be found at Gossamer under "Julia in Korea" or "Julia Marie". The e-mail address has changed, but the stories are still there as my escapes into Mulder and Scully's world. ENJOY! ---------------------------------------------------- "That would mean a lot. A lot, a lot, a lot, but I think that's too much to go into at this late hour," Mulder said as he glanced at a now sleeping Scully. <> he thought, almost saying the words aloud. Suddenly realizing he had to touch her, he reached over to gently place those soft tendrils behind her ear. Mulder's thoughts began to race. <> Reaching over to cover her, he realized that it was true. Dana Scully is indeed his life. He had finally accepted what had happened to Samantha. He was learning to deal with having lost both his mother and father in senseless ways. The one thing he hadn't lost was his heart. No, it lay sleeping softly beside him. Afraid he would wake her and tell her again that he loved her, he rose slowly, leaving her to her dreams. He walked into the kitchen, taking their mugs with him. He took just a few moments to rinse them, then readied himself for bed. <> That thought shook him to his very core. He would *not* lose her now. No one, not Phoebe, Kirsten, Bambi, Diana, no one had made him feel as Scully did, just by being with him. He had once told her that he loved her. Given her reaction at the time, he hadn't tried again. She would accept it when she was ready. Was she ready now? Walking quickly but silently back out to the living room where Scully now lay curled up on his couch, he realized it was time to tell her again. Late night or not. Exhausted or not. Emotional high or not. It was time to tell her again. Yes, she might reject him. Given the emotional strain of the past few days now taking its toll on her physically, she might not even remember his words. But, he decided, he had to try. Kneeling down next to her, he ever-so-gently started gliding his fingers down her cheeks, softly whispering, "Scully, Scully, wake up please, I need you." He repeated his words as he stroked his hands down her arms under the throw he had used to cover her not an hour ago. "Scully, I need you, please wake up for me." "I need you..." Scully heard Mulder's voice coming from the distance. "I need you, Scully. Please wake up." <> Scully tried to open her eyes, tried to focus on his voice, on him. "I love you, Scully." <> was the only word her mind could process given her current state of exhaustion mixed with sleep-induced peacefulness. "I love you. I know you probably aren't going to remember this in the morning, but I had to tell you again. You have chosen the right path with me. I'll never let you down again. Don't ever regret your decisions because good or bad, they have brought you here to me. When you're ready to hear me, I'll tell you again and again. I love you, Scully." Mulder placed a gentle kiss on her forehead and started to rise. A small hand grasped his, stopping him halfway up. His eyes immediately met hers, now open and almost brimming with tears. "I love you too, Mulder." Her voice was barely audible, but Mulder heard it as clearly as if she had shouted it from the rooftops. "You didn't believe me the last time I told you," he said quietly, still not sure if she was really awake or not. "Yes, I did," she said, beginning to sit up. "I just didn't want to believe because I had nearly lost you again. You were mumbling about me, or someone who looked like me. You had a black eye, for which I felt somehow responsible, and you were recovering from near hypothermia. I figured the opportunity would arise again when we were both ready, and conscious." Mulder grinned at that. "Are you conscious now, Scully?" "Yes." "I love you, Scully. With all that I am." "I love you too, Mulder. My choices have been the right ones all along because I'm here with you now. Besides..." Mulder's seeking mouth suddenly interrupted her words. The kiss on New Year's Eve had been gentle and tentative. This one began the same, but now strength and passion took over quickly. Finally remembering her exhaustion as well as his own jetlag, he regretfully ended the kiss. Remaining close to her, he said simply, "It's late, Scully. Let's get some sleep." After that kiss she had felt in her toes, Scully. now fully awake. decided quickly on other plans. "You don't want me?" she asked with a grin. "Of course I do, Scully. I've wanted you for seven years, probably for my whole life," he said, stealing another quick kiss he couldn't resist. "I ache for you." Her own heart doubling its rate at those last four words, Scully went with humor in the hopes of settling it for a moment or two. "Don't you think we have the energy?" Mulder gave her his patented grin. "*I* have the energy, but I know you're exhausted. Are you sure, Scully? I never want you to have any doubts or regrets." She stood up quickly and firmly grasped his hands in her own. Smiling up at him, she whispered, "All things are possible, Mulder, if you just believe." Finally certain, Mulder swept her up into his arms. Kissing her softly with each step toward the bedroom, he answered, "I want to believe." Knowing the choice had been made years before, they spent the remainder of the night showing each other that indeed all things are possible. -------------------------------------------------- FEEDBACK?
