Enjoy! --------------------------------------------- As soon as she woke up, she knew today was going to be different. A good or bad different was more of a question than how she knew. She just did. She had a feeling deep down in her gut. But, right now Dana Scully couldn't be worried about that. She had to go to work. Location: Basement office Time: Morning Mulder was already there when she arrived. No surprise there. "Hey, Scully." he greeted her. "Mornin' Mulder." she replied. She quickly recognized that look on his face. It's the look of eagerness, excitement, and wonder all mixed into one. Mulder owned this look. Scully quickly began to see it as Mulder's "New X-File" look. "What's our new case?" she asked. "This case is actually based on a legend. It's an old one and for years people believed it until someone pointed out that there is little posibility that it could be true. Then, everyone lost interest, until now." "What's this legend about, Mulder?" she asked, leaning against his desk for support. "Well, it was said a long time ago, that a man could see the future. He tried to warn people about their deaths. That was his first mistake. As soon as the first person he warned ignored him and was later found dead, everyone blamed him. Some said he killed the people and others were just convinced he was some sort of evil spirit." "And they killed him." Scully finished for him. "That's got to be one of the most predictable stories you've ever told me, Mulder." "But, there's more Scully. The story says that one day one of his great-grand children or whatever will come back and have the ability to do the same. But, this is uncertain since no one knew if this man ever had kids." "Ok, so what's our interest in this?" "Well, some women is claiming that she's found out who was a relative to this man. In fact, she claims to have found the great, great, great-grand daughter of this man. She thinks that this girl has the same ability." "You're kidding. Please tell me you're kidding." she was only answered by silence. "Well, what does this girl say?" "She denies this. But, I think she's lying. It's at least worth a try, Scully. We'll question her and if you're not convinced something is up with her, then we'll leave." She was about to object, when Mulder gave her his little boy smile. "It's useless trying now." she thought to herself. "Alright Mulder, we'll go." * * * The pulled up to the hotel. Mulder turned to look at his partner. She was sleeping. *She looked so peaceful when she's sleeping.* he thought. He hated to wake her up, but he had no choice. He gently tapped her on the shoulder. She woke immediately. "Hey, Scully we're at the hotel." She nodded her head and unbuckled her seatbelt. He went to get their bags out of the trunk. Scully started to go help him. "I've got the bags, why don't you go get the keys?" he told her. Soon they were in their own rooms. Scully fell asleep easily. Mulder, on the other hand, was still thinking about this case. Eventually he fell asleep, but when he did he wasn't thinking about the case. His mind began to torture him by replaying the scene in his hallway with Scully. Then, his mind began to play a different scene, one that never happened. It was one in which that damn bee hadn't interfered. He sleep like a baby. Time: Morning Place: Ms. Camsel's residence Mulder knocked on the door three times and stood back. A woman (mid-forties it seemed) answered the door. "Ms. Camsel?" he asked. The woman nodded. "I'm Special Agent Fox Mulder and this is my partner Dana Scully." They both displayed their badges to the woman. "We came here to ask you a few questions." "Alright, come in." she opened her door wider for them to step in and they did. "Ms. Camsel, you claim that you've found a girl with a special power that enables her to see the future." Scully said. "Yes, I have. I'm the head of a local high school and I have been watching one student. She seems to be a very lucky girl in one way. Elizabeth, is her name. She has been able to avoid a lot of bad mishaps just by coincedence she says. I used to believe her and then I remembered why I thought her last name seemed so familiar. It's Davis." Scully had no clue what this meant, but she could tell Mulder did. "As in Micheal David, the man who was killed for having a phycic ability?" Mulder asked. The woman nodded her head. "You know about that too, huh?" she replied. "Ms. Camsel, does Elizabeth Davis live with her mother or father that we could speak to?" "No, that's the only unlucky part about this girl's life. She never knew her real mother or father. She is now a senior so she is able to live by herself. Before that she was in and out of foster homes. That poor girl. Here, I'll give you the address." * * * Location: 25 Mystery Ave. Time: 1:30 P.M. Elizabeth heard three knocks on the door before she finally reached the knob. She knew she wasn't going to like this. She yanked open the door to be greeted by a red headed woman and a tall dark haired man. She knew she liked them already. Even if she was going to hate what they were going to put her through. "Elizabeth Davis?" The red headed woman asked, although Liz was sure she already knew the answer. "Yes?" "I'm F.B.I. agent Dana Scully and this is my partner Fox Mulder." They both showed her their badges. Then put them away when they were sure she was convinced. "Well, how can I help the F.B.I. today?" Liz asked them, a quick smile found her face. "We were wondering if we could ask you some questions?" Agent Mulder asked her. "Why of course. Come on in." Liz was trying hard not to laugh at how fake she sounded. "Why don't you two have a seat on the couch there." Liz offered as she pointed to her almost new couch. As expected they did. "Thank you Ms. Davis. So what is your relationship with Ms. Camsel?" Mulder asked. "Ms. Camsel?" *Should have known that old witch was responsible for this.* "She's the head of my school. I hardly know her. Why is she in trouble?" "Oh, no she's fine. She's just a little concerned about you." Scully said. "More crazy talk from her about me being able to read minds again?" Liz asked. "Don't listen to her, she's old and well, you know the rest." "So you're saying that you don't possess any sort of ability to do that?" Mulder asked her ignoring the look Scully gave him. "Nope, sorry to disapoint you, but I'm just another normal human being. Wish I could read minds though. That'd be really cool." "Thank you for your time, Ms. Davis. You've been very helpful. C'mon Mulder, let's go." Scully said and was already walking towards the door. Mulder was still sitting there. He looked over at the girl. She stared back. It was like she was looking at his soul. This made him even more curious. Suddenly, Scully grabbed him by the arm and the tranze was gone. "C'mon Mulder." "Alright." Liz watched them both exit out her front door. * * * Location: Sarah's Hotel Time: Late Afternoon "Scully, I can't believe you want to go back now. We haven't even begun to solve this case." "Mulder, there's nothing here to be solved. Ms. Camsel was mislead about Elizabeth Davis. She has no special powers whatsoever." "Scully, we don't know that. I think it was Elizabeth Davis that mislead us about her ability. I think she lied." "I don't think she did. She's just a regular girl. Now, it's time to go home. You said if I wasn't convinced that we could go and now I'm telling you I'm not convinced." Mulder and Scully looked at eachother for a minute without talking. Mulder couldn't stand it any more. "Fine, we'll leave in the morning." * * * Time: Night Mulder was packing up his stuff so that he could get an early start. It'd be easier than doing it in the morning. Their flight was scheduled for 8 am. That would leave little time to pack a suitcase. Then suddenly, a sharp, violent knocking broke his thought process. He went over to open the door. "Mulder, thank God. You've got to help her." Liz announced. She was very panic stricken. She hardly was making any sense to him. "Elizabeth. Who? What are you talking about?" Mulder asked suddenly worried he didn't need to ask. "Look, I lied. I'm sorry. You've got to help her." "What are you talking about? Who's in trouble?" "I lied about not being able to read people's minds, but that's not all. I can also see the past and the future. I'm not supposed to do anything. What if I alter something. Like, I warn someone they're going to die and then they take over the world. Maybe, they're supposed to die." "Yeah, so why are you warning me to help someone?" Mulder wasn't going to believe her lies again. "I know what will happen if she dies and it does the world no good." "Who are you talking about?" "I think you already know." Mulder swallowed hard. Scully. She was talking about Scully. Should he believe her? She lied to them before, was she doing it again? "Please, you need to listen to me. She's going to come in here telling you she has to go pick up something. Don't let her leave the room, Fox." "I don't think you're telling the truth." "Then, she'll die." Then, Liz turned around and ran to her car. She was gone before Mulder could catch up. Time: 6 am There was a knock at the door. Mulder jumped up and anwered it. It was Scully. "Hi Mulder." He let her in and shut the door. "So are you ready?" He asked her. "Yep, all packed up." "Hey, Mulder I'm going to go pick up something to eat while we're waiting. I'm starved." She started towards the door, but Mulder's arm was holding her back. "Mulder?" "Uh, listen Scully. I was thinking about this case we're working on and.." "Mulder, I don't want to hear any of your theories now. I am really hungry." She started for the door again. "Scully, don't leave." "Look, I really don't want to hear an-" "I love you." Scully stopped dead in her tracks. *Did he just say what she think he said?* She couldn't be sure, he said it so fast. "What?" She asked him. "I said, I love you." She was breathless and for a moment she just stood there, shocked. *He loves me.* Mulder walked up to where she was standing and placed his arms around her. She could smell him. It was that scent she knew so well. "I love you too, Mulder." Mulder's hold on her tightened. Then, he loosened his grip to look at her. He stared into her eyes. She was so beautiful and he was such a lucky man. She stared back at him, never wanting anything to disturb their moment. Before she noticed, Mulder was pulling her towards him. She didn't hesitate to meet his lips with her own. The kiss was a sweet innocent kiss. She tasted better than any of his dreams. And then it was over. He stared at her again. This time with all his love for her times two in his eyes. She returned the look. Then, she pulled him towards her and once again their lips meet. This time there was nothing innocent about it. His tongue probed her mouth. She returned the exchange until they both stopped for air. Then, Mulder lifted her up into his arms. "Where should we take it from here?" he asked. "The bed." she answered. Mulder laughed and then continued their earlier kiss. * * * Time: Next Morning Place: Sarah's Hotel Mulder woke up first. Flashes from the night before appeared in his mind as he quickly realized where he was. He had rescheduled their flight for a later time. Then, he went and got breakfast. When he came back, Scully was awake. "Good Morning." He greeted her with a big smile and kissed her on the forehead. "I got breakfast." he showed her the bag of food he purchased from a local resturant. "Great, cuz I'm still really hungry." * * * Liz watched the male agent enter the hotel room with a bag. She assumed it was breakfast, and she knew he wasn't eating alone. A smile appeared on her face. "Cupid couldn't have done it better." She thought aloud and then slammed her foot on the gas pedal.
