This is just a short piece, the title is self-explanatory.

In Dreams
by Carol Gritton (jimcaz@dircon.co.uk)

In dreams, Fox Mulder could live the life he wanted to live - a
normal life like everyone else on the planet. A life that didn't
involve conspiracies and cover-ups, like that of his waking hours.

In dreams, he could be easy, carefree and joyous - not insecure,
paranoid and weighed down by guilt. Guilt was a powerful emotion -
it festered inside him like some insidious cancer.

In dreams, he could be married, have a family - he wasn't afraid to
get close to someone, to love that person and to have that person
love him back. He couldn't do that in his waking life, terrified
that by loving someone, he would lose them.

In dreams, he could reach out in the night and not find the space
beside him cold and empty. There would be a warm, soft and fragrant
body lying beside him - someone he could snuggle up to and hold on
to. Someone who would respond when he touched and kissed them -
someone that would take away the loneliness of his everyday
existence.

Everyone else had these dreams - why didn't he?

The End
