Rating: G Classification: I guess MSR, maybe a little angst Disclaimer: None of the character's in the story are mine... Summary: Mulder, thought to have commited suicide, returns to find Scully close to death. This is my first time writing fan-fic, so it's not great... In My Dreams It was almost impossible for Fox Mulder to believe, even looking down at the pale, lifeless form, that this was his partner, the strong, brave Agent Dana Scully. She'd been like that when he came back from Canada, after the "body" he'd been sent to retrieve had tricked him, tied him up with something he couldn't identify, and left him to freeze. But he had managed to escape and had trekked for days through the icy wilderness. He'd almost given up- when the group sent to find the bodies of the men who'd been shot had come across him. He'd been taken back to Wahington only to find that everyone believed him dead, after the alien had taken his form to die itself, and Scully's cancer worse than ever. He'd been back for no more than 24 hours and now wanted with all his heart for her to wake up and that he was alive, just see him one last time. He'd come here, to the hospital, before even calling his mother to tell her he was alright. He felt the tears begin to fall as he watched the still form before him. "Scully?" he whispered. She didn't stir, and, with a sigh, he slowly turned and walked out, coat pulled tightly around his shoulders. HE WAS BACK IN THE HOSPITAL BACK IN FRONT OF HER BED ONLY NOW SHE WAS AWAKE SMILING AT HIM "WHAT HAPPENED I THOUGHT YOU WERE DYING" HE ASKED HER SUPRISED SHE GOT UP WENT TO HIS SIDE "IVE GOTTEN BETTER BEFORE WHY SHOULDNT I NOW" THIS SEEMED LOGICAL TO HIM AND SHE DID LOOK FINE HE CRIED AGAIN BUT THIS TIME IT WAS TEARS OF JOY AND WRAPPED HIS ARMS AROUND HER "I DIDNT TELL YOU BEFORE I LEFT AND HATED MYSELF FOR IT- I LOVE YOU DANA" HE TOLD HER SOFTLY NOW SHE WAS CRYING TOO HE HELD HER AGAINST HIM AND THEY LET THEIR TEARS FALL He awoke with a start and found himself lying on his sofa. For a second he was confused... then horribly sad. It was a dream, she was atill dying. Suddenly, he needed to see her- and found himself outside her room at the hospital. He couldn't remember dressing or driving. Then he opened the door and looked at her- and she looked back at him. "Scu-," he began, then changed his mind. "Dana? What happened?" "Your, uh, friend... the "Cancer Man"... really did have a cure. HE got rid of the tumor somehow, and this time I won't question how. He also told me ayaou were still alive. I couldn't believe it, because your suicide had made me lode my own will to fight the cancer..." she started laughing and crying at the same time and he found himself running to her, lifting her up from the bed, and swinging her around in his arms. "Oh, Dana, Dana, Dana..." he whispered. "I- I love you..." "Let'a go home, Mul- Fox. We have time now to heal. Let's use that time." He obeyed and carried her out to his car. Tears blurred his vision as he tried to start the engine. She laughed at his attempts. "Wait awhile, Fox. This place is as good as any to talk." They sat all night, just happy they were together and both healthy. Dreams can come true... Poem Based on "Gethsemane" I wish everybody had a good friend, Someone to be beside them everyday, Someone who would always be trustworthy... I wish no one ever had to die, No suicides, drugs, or cancer, That everything had an easy cure... I wish that telling your beliefs was easy, Nobody ever ridiculed or laughed at, And that speech was truly free... If only.
