Disclaimer: Mulder and Scully aren't mine, they belong to Chris Carter, 1013 and Fox Network. Author's notes: This is a silly little story, because I'm still frustrated about that damn bee. This is to show that there are directors who do understand what we wanted to see. In real life (1/1) Fox Mulder entered the set, looking around for his friend. He spotted him a few meters ahead, directing a scene, in which an actor and actress were discussing something. An assistant told him that they would be ready soon, so Mulder waited patiently until the scene was finished and Peter Mitchell yelled "cut" A few seconds later Peter turned around and greeted his friend "Fox, hi, good to see you" Mulder grinned "hi Pete" They had met during college, the only difference between them that Peter traded his study after a year, to go work as an actor and later as a successful director and script writer. They didn't see each other very often, but every now and then they met. Peter loved listening to Mulder's stories about cases he and Scully were working on, sometimes they could be really inspiring for a new script. When his friend had told him about his latest adventures on Antarctica, he had immediately said that it was a great idea for a movie. Mulder hadn't object, as long as Peter wouldn't use his name. That was why he was on the set today, Peter had invited him to come take a look. To see what the movie was going to be like. Peter introduced him to the actor and actress. Mulder looked surprised when he was introduced to the actress, she looked a lot like Scully. When they were having lunch some time later he asked. Peter grinned and said that he really hadn't done it on purpose. The actress had just been perfect for the role. Mulder looked like he didn't believe it, but didn't ask further. After lunch they went back to the set. Mulder wanted to leave, but Peter invited him to stay a little bit longer. Curious what he was going to see, Mulder asked "which scene are they doing?" Peter didn't turn his attention away from the set, but mumbled "Hallway scene" Hallway scene? That sounded familiar. Mulder remembered what had happened in his hallway a few months earlier, something he and Scully had never talked about, but he hadn't forgotten. The scene developing in front of him looked a lot like what had happened between him and Scully, that was until the actor was about to kiss the actress. Mulder expected her to fall down, but that didn't happen. Instead of that they were kissing passionately. Now Peter did turn around and grinned. "Shocked?" "Uhm well no, you do realize that this isn't what happened in reality do you?" "Of course, but it's a movie. We have to give the public what they want to see, otherwise they'll stay away or they'll come out and think - what a stupid director for not letting the logical thing happen - Peter laughed. "Oh" Mulder stayed for the rest of the afternoon. When he left, he had the idea that it might be better if Scully never saw this movie. That would give him something to explain. Although she couldn't know of course, that he knew the director. TWO MONTHS LATER After a day of hard work, Scully was getting ready to leave the office. Her friend Ellen was going to pick her up and they were going to have dinner and would go see a movie. When Ellen arrived, Scully introduced her to Mulder, after which they wanted to leave. Right before Scully walked out of the office, Mulder asked "where are you going" "Oh having dinner and we're going to see a new movie" "Which one?" "I believe the title was Blackwood or something, why?" Mulder nearly choked. She looked at him "are you alright Mulder?" "Yeah, I'm fine. Have fun." "Okay. See you tomorrow" "Yeah tomorrow" he said faintly against a closed door. This was bad. Of course Scully would immediately realize, or maybe she wouldn't. Coincidence happens all the time, isn't it? MOVIE THEATRE SAME EVENING After dinner, Scully and Ellen went to the movie theatre. Scully was curious what the movie would be like, since all Ellen had told her was the title and that there had been a lot of good critics. When the movie started it did look a little familiar to her, but that was probably coincidence she told herself. But 30 minutes later she wasn't so sure about that anymore, there were too many coincidences. This movie was as if it was made about her and Mulder. But how could that be? It had to be a coincidence, only she had no idea how that was possible. She was grateful for the darkness, when the actor and actress ended up in a passionate embrace in his hallway. She could feel her face turn red. Okay, this was not completely what had happened between her and Mulder in the hallway, but it was what she had wanted to happen. She sighed. Ellen looked at her "something wrong Dana?" she whispered. "No I'm alright" Scully whispered back, returning her attention to the screen. When they walked out of the cinema, Ellen noticed how silent her friend was. "Are you alright Dana?" Scully looked at her "yeah, really. Just a little tired." "What did you think of the movie?" "It was a good movie" "Didn't you think the actress looked a lot like you? What a coincidence" "Yeah it sure is" Scully answered, while she thought to herself that there were a lot more coincidences than her friend knew. NEXT DAY Scully arrived early that morning. She hadn't been able to sleep. The movie had brought back all the feelings, she had tried to forget. In the end she had given up and decided to get dressed and go to the office. Not much later Mulder arrived. He hadn't got much sleep either, the whole time wondering how Scully would react to the movie. When he entered the office, he didn't expect Scully to be there already. After all it was only 6.30. "Scully?" he asked in surprise. "Mulder?" she looked up in surprise. "Morning, what are you doing here so early?" "I could ask you the same thing" "Oh I couldn't sleep, you?" "Me neither" after that there was an uncomfortable silence for a moment. Then Mulder asked "coffee?" "No thanks, I already have" she showed him her cup. While he got himself a cup of coffee, he asked nonchalant, with his back turned to her "how was the movie?" "Oh uhm it was okay" "Would you recommend me to go see it?" "No!" she cried out. "Was it that bad?" he knew very well why she didn't want him to see it, but wanted to know if she was going to say anything about it. "No, no, it was a nice movie. But I think there are better movies" she hurried to say. After that they returned their attention to work for a few hours. A few hours later, Mulder looked up to see Scully staring at her computer blankly. "Scully?" "Huh" she looked up. "Is everything alright?" "Yes why wouldn't it be?" "Because you've been staring at your screen for the last 15 minutes." He grinned. she thought, now he would want an explanation of course. Then, she had no idea why, she decided to tell him the truth. "Actually yes there is something" He could tell by the look on her face, that she was going to tell him about the movie. "What Scully?" "It's, uhm it's that movie I saw last night" "The one that was okay, but not that good that you would recommend it" "Uhm yes" she had no idea how to say this. He saw her struggling "is there something you want to tell me about that movie?" he tried to help her. "Yes. I... Mulder, that movie was as if it was about what happened to us a few months ago." Now this was getting interesting "it was?" "Yes, only there was one thing different" "Oh?" "They were also in a hallway, but he ...." she stopped right there, blushing, not knowing how to finish this. "Did kiss her?" he finished for her. She looked up "yes, but how did you know?" "Lucky guess" "Mulder?" "Yes" "When I saw that movie, I realized that that was..." she paused, while he looked at her expectantly. "I realized that that was what I had wanted to happen with us" she blurted out, avoiding to look at him. He looked at her, then without saying a word, he got up from behind his desk and moved until he stood in front of her. Hesitating for a moment, before leaning down to kiss her softly. She moved into his arms, as if she had always belonged there, answering the kiss. After a few minutes they let go. She sighed happily and leaned against his chest. He smiled too "Scully?" "Yes?" "That day in my hallway?" "Yes?" "There was something else I wanted to tell you" "What?" "I love you Scully" he whispered in her hair. "I love you too Mulder" she smiled and looked up. Grinning, she said "maybe we should send a thank you note to the person who made this movie" "Mmmhm" he said, not really interested in thank you notes right now. He leaned down and pulled her closer to kiss her again. That was when the door opened. Two heads jerked up, afraid that it would be Skinner. But it wasn't Skinner. It was Peter Mitchell, Mulder's friend. He grinned when he saw his friend and a person of whom he assumed it was his friend's partner. "Hi Mulder" "Hi Pete" Mulder still had his arm around Scully's shoulder. "Pete, this is my partner, Dana Scully" "Scully, this is a very good friend of mine, Peter Mitchell" he introduced them to each other. They shook hands and Scully smiled. The name sounded familiar to her, as if she had heard it before. Minutes later her mouth fell open, when she realized why she recognized the name.... The End
