Mulder turned he cross over and over in his hands, wondering if he
should even be doing this, this act of treason against something of
hers. But it was for Scully's benefit, that she know the truth. But
something that Mrs. Scully had told him kept reappearing in his mind,
seemingly in stereo, but he didn't know where the other voice was
coming from. One was Maggie Scully's voice, but he couldn't identify
the other one. It sounded like a younger version of Scully's voice,
but it couldn't have been, for they had not known each other when they
were younger. The jewler across from him looked at him strangly.
"Sir, what would you like the inscription to say?"

Mulder came into Scully's hospital room, relieved that she was alive.
"Hey. How're you holding up? I brought you something, something that
you, if not I, believe in." With that, he gave her the cross.

"Can one hate their best friend, though lost in a
fiery hell? Can one kill their best friend, over
hate of love? Can one hate their love, but so
passionate in emotion? Does he really love her,
or is it a small reminder of me?"
