And of course, ya might need to have read After the Darkness RATING: PG CONTENT: MS friendship SUMMARY: After what happened in After the Darkness, the two need to sort some things out DISCLAIMER: Don't I wish... Hey, anybody remember me? I haven't posted anything for, I dunno, 2 months? Well, someone e-mailed me, encouraging me to write a sequel and, what can I say? I couldn't resist. So, here's Into the Light, a sequel to After the Darkness. If you enjoy and let me know, they might be more. Into the Light Mulder drove. He always drove. He had once said something about her stature interferring with her driving abilities, but she had pretty much zoned out everything had said from the start of getting that nightmare of a case. However, this time Scully was glad Mulder drove. She had just experienced an overload of tests designed to try to find out what had happened with her eyesight, and while there were no conclusions, Scully was simply counting her blessings. After parting with their friends and her mother, the two headed for Scully's apartment. Scully was still in awe of the arrival of her vision and luxuriated in seeing everything. She kept her eyes wide open, unwilling to shut them even though she was worn out. So, Mulder drove. It was late in the afternoon, with the sun low enough in the sky that the sunset was sure to follow. "Wait, Mulder. Turn right up here," Scully interupted the silence that had filled the car and pointed to a small driveway surrounded by fields. Mulder did as he was instructed and within seconds their car had pulled in. Mulder drove a bit more, then shut off the engine and the pair stepped out of the car. "Hmmm... smell that fresh air," Scully stretched her arms out and pulled herself up onto the hood of the car, leaning her back against the windshield, then gestured for Mulder to do the same. "Scully? What's up?" Mulder looked almost worried, as if he were in trouble and Scully had to hide a grin. "I just wanted to show you something. I came here one day, quite a while ago. Must have been after the cancer. I was so tired of driving and so I pulled in here, just curious. Hang on a second, have patience, and you'll see." With that they were silent and they searched the skies. Slowly, it changed colors, those delicate colors that signify the setting of the sun. They watched in awe as the oranges, pinks and blues mixed together and finally settled to a dark blue. At that the sun had disappeared and they remained silent for a while. Scully was the first to recover. "That was beautiful," When Mulder murmered his agreement, Scully continued. "I never thought I'd see another one." Mulder drew in a sharp breath of air at that statement and slide off the car. He paced a while, then turned to look at her. "I'm so sorry." "What?" Scully was shocked; she hadn't thought Mulder had been taking the blame. "It's all my fault. Me and my stupid search. It nearly cost you your eyesight, Scully. I--" "Mulder stop. It's us. Both of us. It's our search, stop being so damn possesive all the time. We accepted the consequences and I have no regrets. None, Mulder. Everything happens for a reason. And, thankfully, I have my vision back, more than I hoped for a few weeks ago. Maybe I'll have more sunsets to see, knock on wood," At that Scully looked around, then knocked on Mulder's head, eliciting a slight chuckle from both of them. "Are you sure you have no regrets, Scully? After all, we no longer work for the FBI. You could always find another job if you wanted to." "No way. I happened to enjoy my job. My partner wasn't too shabby either, as I recall. Do you know if he's joining me?" "Hmmm... I heard he was anxiously awaiting normal Bureau hours to be reinstated." "In that case... partners?" Scully stuck out her hand and awaited Mulder's response. "Partners," Mulder eagerly shook Scully's hand, then helped her off the hood. They got back in the car and headed... somewhere.
