Hopefully this will be a six part series. :) This is partly inspired by my youngest cousin, Kevin. But mostly inspired by my wacky dreams. =P Have fun, tell me whatcha think. Later. Oh, wait, The X-Files and its characters belong to Chris Carter, 1013, and FOX. ********** "It Just Happened" 'Daddy' by Mystic Nalvarez@delphi.com ********** Mulder Residence 9:13 PM Fox Mulder walked into the room and was hit by a flying bullet, he threw himself to the floor screaming and was immediately pounced upon by a five year old. The boy looked at him with his bright blue eyes and cocked his head, then he turned to his older brother and yelled, "Nathan! You killed 'im!" The six and a half year old jumped off the top bunk of the bed and put his hands at his waist. He rolled his dark hazel eyes and ruffled his younger brothers brown hair. "No, I didn't, Andy. It was a near fatal wound, but nurse Katy can help him." Andy's twin sister slid out of the closet and looked down at Andy. She ran a hand through her auburn hair and looked up at Nathan with steel grey eyes. "You two 'er idioths." She said with a lisp. She kneeled down and pushed her brother off her father. "Daddy, you've been heeled by an invithble alien from another planet." Mulder grabbed his little girl and tickled her while his boys laughed and jumped on his legs. They'd been watching one too many late night movies without their permission. Either that or they'd been listening in on their conversation about their cases. "Daddy, stop!" Katy squealed. He lifted her in the air and brought her down so their noses touched. She kissed his nose and he brought her back down, against his chest, on his lap. Nathan and Andy still sat on either leg, smiling. "Dad, can you tell us a story?" Nathan asked. "About what?" "Monsters!" Andy immediately yelled, sliding his small tongue through the gap where his two front teeth were only a week ago, smiling shyly. Mulder shook his head looking down at the girl in his lap, "I think you've heard about that one too many times. Katy's been having nightmares." "Katy's a cry baby." Andy pointed out. Katy stood, "Am not!" "Are too!" Mulder held a hand between them, "No, no more, Katy is not a cry baby, Andy apologize." He looked down at the boy sternly. Andy put his head down and said, "I'm sorry." Katy got up, bent over and kissed the top of her brothers head. Mulder smiled, he never realized how cute kids could be until he had some of his own. Katy then sat back in her father's lap and snuggled into his chest. "Tell us 'bout how ya met mommy?" Katy asked. "I've told you this a million times, it's not even that interesting." "It is when you tell it." Andy said. "Ok," He shrugged. It really wasn't all that interesting. But if they liked to hear it, why not tell them a million times over. "I was working on a case, it was early, and there was a knock on the door. She came in and I looked up and saw your mother. She looked different than now, her hair was darker and she looked, well she looked like Nathan." He looked at his eldest who beamed when he got to that part. He loved looking like his mother. "When I saw her I smiled, she smiled and she told me that she was going to be working with me. I was happy, she was beautiful. And smart. I'd had a small crush on her before this. I'd heard about her as soon as she got into the agency, but I guess I was too shy to ask her out." "Daddy's chicken." Andy said, laughing to himself. Nathan whacked the back of his head. "Shut up." Mulder gave him a look to tell him that he shouldn't do that to his younger brother. Nathan looked apologetically back. Mulder had a way with his kids, they could all express what they wanted to say with a look. The Mulder family was considered The Spookies, they didn't speak much during parties, only gave knowing glances that no one else understood. "Well, I hadn't asked her out, but I had something she'd written when she was in college. I'd read it a thousand times, it was brilliant. So I was ecstatic when I saw she was going to be my partner." "Whenja fall in love wid each other?" Katy asked. "Somewhere between that day and the day I proposed..." They all finished for him, "It just happened." They knew this story by heart, but they loved to hear their father tell them stories about before they were born. They also loved to get out of going to sleep when they were supposed to. "Can you tell us about your cases?" Nathan asked. "I don't know. Which one?" Mulder asked. They all answered with their favorites at the same time, making Mulder laugh. "Tooms." Andy shouted. "Pusher." Nathan yelled. "Bugs." Katy screamed. "Fox, I told you to put them to bed." Dana hollered from their bedroom. Mulder looked down at them and he smiled. They smiled back, all getting really close to him as if he were going to tell a secret. They got wicked looks in their eyes as if they were going to do something evil. "Mommy wants you to go to bed." He took Katy and put her in her bed in another room, telling her he'd be back to kiss her good night. She laid down and watched him walk out. Mulder walked back into the boys room where they were standing, waiting for him to come back. He usually did this, he was always more lenient with the kids that Dana was. He knelt down with his boys and they all touched heads. It was their way of keeping secrets. "I'm supposed to force you into bed, but if you stay quiet, and I mean, Very Quiet, you can stay up a little longer. But," He pointed at each of them, "you have to be very quiet." "Or what?" Nathan whispered. "I'm going to send Mom in here and she's going to force you into bed and then she's going to take the games away." They both gave him The Pout but turned to their beds. They got in and Mulder tucked them both in. He planted a kiss on both of their small foreheads and then walked to the door where he stopped to turn off the lights. They giggled once before he left, saying, "Night Dad." Mulder walked into Katy's room and looked at her lying in the bed. She was trying to read a book. Mulder took the book from her and she wiggled underneath the covers. He pulled them up to her shoulders and she smiled at him. She was the spitting image of her mother. She shied away from him as she always did when someone looked at her for too long, she was so shy. "Can we get a puppy?" She asked. "Are you gonna ask this every night?" "Yep." "Well, we're getting something way better than a puppy." "A little brother. I know. I know. But I want a puppy." "I don't think we could afford a puppy." He could see how this would exclude her, the boys would remain together, while she was outcast. "We can ford nother baby." She said, matter-of-factly. He smiled at her. She gave him a pout in return. "After the baby's born, we'll see. If we can afford one, I'll get you a puppy." "And it'll be mine." "All yours." "Can I call'm Bugs?!" She looked up at him, exited. He laughed, "You can call him bugs." She had a slight obsession with the word 'bugs' right now. He didn't want to prevent her from using it, but it was always funny when she did. She screamed "Bugs!" in a store only two days before because Nathan bopped her on the head with a plastic bat. She didn't want to say a 'bad' word. Nathan laughed so hard, he hadn't seen the 'Slippery When Wet' sign and he fell on his bottom. This caused Andy and Katy to shriek wildly, at the sight of their older, sometimes diabolical, brother on the floor with a wet butt. "I love you daddy." She said, before engulfing him in a hug. He held her tight, she was too small. Too frail. He felt like he needed to protect her more than the boys. Dana hated when he did it, but he kept a very tight leash on their daughter. "I love you sweetie." He answered. She laid back down in her pink and blue bed and closed her eyes tight, smiling at her dad. He stood and clicked off the lamp beside her bed. He turned when he got to the door. He watched her eyes ease. He felt a hand at his arm and he turned to see Dana standing there. "Fox, we've got a small problem." She told him, a serious look in her eye. "What is it?" He closed the door to Katy's room fully and looked at her. She had her hand on her belly and she just looked down to herself and then up to him. "It's time?" He asked. She nodded. "But you're not due for another two weeks!" "Well, we've got to get to the hospital Now." "Did you eat something spicy? How?" He trailed. It seemed she never delivered at the right time. Nathan was a month early, Andy and Katy wanted out in the middle of an office party. "It just happened." She said, echoing the words from his earlier conversation with the children. "I already called my mother, she's going to be here, about now." There was a honk and then a moment later, a knock. "That was fast." They both said. They let her in and they sped off. Mulder drove like he had always, like a madman, ignoring all signs. They got to the hospital in record time, entering the labor room within an hour. And then, two hours and fifteen minutes later, it just happened. 7 Pounds 3 Ounces. Kevin Alexander Mulder. ********** That be it. Please tell me what you thought. Hey, maybe I might follow this up with a 'Mommy' ??? Or a whole series? Um, well, maybe not. He hadn't been much trouble the last month, he'd actually been one of the most quietest baby's Dana had ever seen. Katy and Andy both had colic and Nathan had medical problems in that he was always contracting colds, no matter how protected she kept him. He spent a lot of his first two years crying because he couldn't breathe right any other way. Kevin made a small gurgling noise and she smiled at him, he smiled back smacking her arm playfully. She looked at the bottle and saw that he had chugged all of the formula so she moved to burp him. She jumped when she felt the hand on her shoulder. It was Katy. "Mommy, why do you burp 'im?" She asked giving her a worried look and she began to pat his back. "'Cause it looks like it hurts." Kevin let out a loud one and smiled. Katy only wrinkled her little nose. "If she doesn't burp him, he'll explode." It was Nathan. He entered the room with a towel around his waist and a grin playing on his lips, looking just like his father. He'd just come out of their 'kiddy' pool and he was still in the 'reek havoc' mode. Katy's face became one of panic as she looked back at her mother who was shaking her head. Kevin let out another burp and smiled smugly. Katy shook her head at Kevin, already convinced he was going to be as gross as her other brothers. Dana answered her children, "That's not totally true." She paused. "He won't explode. But it would be painful if the gas stays where it is, and we don't want Kevin to be in pain, right Nathan?" She looked up at him, both eyebrows cocked in his direction. "No, mom." He answered holding back a laugh. She would probably wrestle him later for telling Katy what he did. She had her figure back, so she could, once again, pin her kids under her when they tried to scare one another, until they apologized. Dana looked at Kevin, his eyelids were falling, he was definitely ready for his nap. She got up and walked into her room, placing him in his crib and rocking his back while Katy and Nathan sang every baby song they knew. When he fell asleep they walked out of the room and went into the boys room. Dana sat in the bottom bunk, tired. She looked suddenly to Nathan, "Where is Andy?" Her eyes grew wide and Nathan smiled. "He went to the kitchen to eat something, you know how hungry he gets after swimming in the pool." "You didn't trounce him again, did you, Nathan?" He held up both hands, "Me?" He said. He was rewarded with one of the Looks the children had learned by memory. This one meant, 'I'm not kidding and I have no time for jokes.' He lowered his hands and told her, "I hit him once, with a Narf football, but I didn't beat him up. I'm beyond those childish games." She grabbed him and pulled him into her lap, then tickled him until tears came from the corners of his eyes. He cried, "Mommy, stop!" She let him go and he smiled, crawling away from her. He sat on the floor at Katy's feet. They all smiled at each other. "Mommy, when's Kevin gonna move out of your room and into ours?" Andy asked, walking in with a bright yellow towel around whole body. He'd been hiding behind the door of his parents room watching them put the baby to sleep. He was afraid of Kevin, afraid that everything Nathan had told him about vomiting, exploding, spitting, and screaming were true. "In a few months." She answered. Andy sat next to his mom and Nathan pulled him off. "You're gonna get the bed wet, Andy." "I always wanted a waterbed." Andy said. He smiled at his older brother and Nathan tried his damnedest not to give the kid credit for a good joke, but he couldn't, he laughed. Dana rolled her eyes, knowing Fox would be proud of his son's sense of humor. "Well, I don't want to clean your wet bed, so get your wet butt in the shower." Dana informed him. As he screamed with glee, she pulled him off his bed and flung him over her shoulder. She loved being able to do that again. Nathan laughed and Katy shook her head smiling. She put Andy in one bathroom and ordered Nathan into the other and then fell into Katy's bed, exhausted. She didn't remember taking care of a newborn being this difficult. Maybe it was because the last time, it had been two newborns and one son. This time she had one newborn and three running around. She was kind of glad that she was thirty-nine and nearing menopause, no more accidents, no more having to tell Fox, "Well, it just happened." "I forgot the pill one day, it just happened." "How was I supposed to know that it would happen on our first night of our honeymoon?" Kevin, Andy and Katy, and Nathan, respectively. She actually liked having to tell him that, to see the shocked look on his face and then the happiness that overcame him the day of the birth. Her mother always told her that it would be a happy day, but she never expressed what Fox conveyed. He almost danced for joy when he found out he had a son. He did dance for joy when he found out he was having twins. And then he broke down in tears for all of them. Dana smiled remembering them all. She'd been sweating and half asleep and still in pain, but so happy. Katy stood at the foot of the bed and watched her mother smile. She wondered what her mommy could be thinking about. Maybe Kevin, she thought walking out of the room. She could hear Nathan singing in one shower and she could hear the splashes of Andy playing in the other. She walked into her parents room and marveled at how big everything was. She always did this, she hoped that she would grow to be big enough to reach some of these things one day. She took a small stool and stood on it to see Kevin. His mouth was open and his chubby little fists were in balls at the sides of his head. She could see the beginnings of little brown strands of hair poking out of his head. Then she got down and grabbed a shawl from the chair where her mommy sometimes fell asleep with Kevin, or her, or Andy or Nathan, sometimes even her father. Katy took the shawl to her room and looked at her mother, who'd fallen asleep. Katy knew she would, she'd done it five times in the last two weeks. She threw the shawl over her mother and adjusted it over her sleeping body, pulling it up to her shoulders. Then she crawled onto the bed and laid down beside her mom, under the shawl. "Night Mommy." Katy kissed her mother's forehead and let her own sleepy eyes fall in defeat. Later that night, Fox Mulder got home. He was greeted at the door by Nathan and Andy. They were both already in pajamas and they jumped on him, from the kitchen. "Hey guys." He said. Nathan was hanging from his back and Andy was clinging to his front. "Where's Mommy?" He asked. "She fell asleep, with Katy." Nathan answered. "How's Kevin?" "Asleep." "When was the last time mommy fed him?" "About two hours ago." Andy said. He nodded. "Did mommy happen to tell you what we're supposed to make for dinner while she's asleep?" They two boys looked at each other and Nathan answered, "Yeah, she said we could order a nice greasy pizza." Mulder pulled his boys off of him and gave them both 'Yeah Right' looks. He walked into the kitchen, hanging up his coat on a chair and setting his briefcase down on the counter. He looked on the stove, there was a box of instant mashed potatoes and he knew it alwasy went with chicken. But since Dana'd fallen asleep, she didn't have the chicken defrosted. "Pizza it is." He said to their cheers. He called, ordered and turned to see both boys run out of the kitchen, and Dana stood there with Kevin. "Pizza, Fox?" He smiled and walked to her, kissing her, recieving a playful slap on the chin by Kevin. He lifted the boy out of her arms and held him against his chest, laughing at his attempt to get back into his mothers chest. "He likes yours better than mine." He commented. "I guess he gets it from his father." She answered. "Where's Katy?" "She's sleeping in her bed." "Mommy!" Katy screamed from her bedroom. Dana ran up and hugged her waking daughter. She'd had a nightmare. Nathan and Andy stood at the door, their eyes wide with fright. Their sister had one hell of a loud mouth. Dand kissed her and Mulder sat next to them on the bed, Kevin still in his arms. They all sat quiet for a moment and then it happened, Kevin let out a loud baby noise and they all laughed. The doorbell rang and Nathan and Andy both yelled, "Pizza!" at the same time, running to the kitchen to set the table. Dana took Kevin from his fathers arms, and the child smiled. Fox pulled Katy into his arms and they went to eat dinner. ********** Hoorah! A sequel. The four Mulder children (Nathan, Andy, Katy, and Kevin) belong to me. :) ********** "It Just Happened" 'Nathan' by Mystic Nalvarez@delphi.com ********** Mulder Residence 4:13 PM He stood at the edge of the pool, looking into it. It was a blue, plastic pool, only about six feet in diameter, barely enough swimming room for Andy or Katy. It was only two feet deep, a procaution decided on for the younger three, the youngest of which was only two months old and couldn't swim yet. Andy sat on the far side of the pool watching his older brother, Katy was inside the house helping their mother feed Kevin. "Andy, what'd ya' think it'll take to break the pool?" His eyes opened with fear, "A crazy person!" He shrieked. "No, I mean, how much of a jump." "Nathan, dad'll kill you if you break this pool! I don't even *want* to think about what mom'll do to ya'." He smiled at his younger brother and then stepped into the pool, without a jump. He was only playing with his Andy. Andy was easy to frighten, he was kind of a wimp. Nathan sometimes wondered where he got it from, their parents both seemed fearless. "How long do you think they'll let us stay in here?" Andy asked, watching the back door of the house. He knew at any moment their mother would come out and tell them they'd been in long enough. "I dunno, ten minutes. How long ago did mom and Katy go to feed Kevin?" Andy thought a few seconds, "About half an hour ago." "Then mommy's probably sleeping, you know how she falls asleep after feeding Kevin." They both looked at the house, at their parents bedroom window, somehow expecting their mom to be standing there, watching them. But Katy was there. She laughed and then closed the blinds on the window. "Katy's an egghead." Andy said. Nathan bopped him, "No names, not about Katy." "Why not?" He was yanked out of the pool and flung over his fathers bare shoulder. He screamed once before coming face to face with his daddy, upside down. All the color left Andy's face when he saw his father, in a swimsuit. He turned back to Nathan as if to ask, 'Why didn't ya warn me?' Nathan smiled. "Sorry, daddy." Andy said slowly. Fox Mulder looked at his little boy, his hair hanging like a troll's, dripping with water. "Andy, I've told you not to say bad things about Katy. Do you want me to tell you again what happened to my little sister, about how bad I felt for years about calling her bad names?" The boy shook his head vigorously. The last time he'd been told that story he had nightmares for a week. Wetting his bed once, which was automatically answered with Katy calling, "Bed Wetter!" But that only resulted in Fox telling the story to her, which gave her nightmares. Then when she came crying into Andy's room on a Friday night, crying, apologizing, he only hugged her tight until his parents came into the room to soothe the both of them. "Dad, can we get a new pool?" Nathan asked. Mulder put Andy down and ordered him inside, to take a bath and help mommy with dinner. He obeyed and ran inside. Mulder sat in the pool and had to fold his legs under him to fit in the kiddie pool. "Why do you want a new pool?" He asked. Nathan gestured at his folder legs. "But you still fit." "Barely." He stretched his legs, which were growing pretty fast, for a six year old, well almost seven. Mulder suddenly grew stiff, Nathan's birthday was in a month, he hadn't even though about it, what with Kevin just being born at the end of May. "What if I get you a bigger pool for your seventh birthday?" Nathan smiled, "How big would the pool be?" "How big do you want it?" "Olympic sized!" Mulder smiled, a 'Yeah Right' look given to his son. Nathan slapped the water, he'd tried. "I can buy a three foot pool, that's about twelve feet from one side to the other, is that ok? Big enough for you?" The boy smiled widely, it was enough room for now. He shook his fathers hand and then was picked up and hugged. Mulder picked up his son and took him inside, to take a bath and get ready to eat. ********** 9:15 PM Nathan was popped in the head with a cush ball. He took the ball and threw it at his younger brother who was pretending to be asleep in the bottom bunk. Andy screamed and Fox yelled from their bedroom, "Good Night boys!" They laughed. Nathan jumped off his bunk and into Andy's. Andy raised his hands in defeat as Nathan pulled out a small ball throwing gun at him. He put the gun down and looked at his younger brother. Still trying to figure out who he looked like. Nathan knew that he looked like both parents. He had his mother's nose and lips and he had his fathers, well, everything else. He knew Katy looked like his mother and Kevin was going to look like his father, except for his eyes, which were going to be like his mothers. But Andy, Andy didn't look like his twin sister Katy, he didn't look like Kevin and he didn't look like Nathan. His grandmother had told his mother that Andy looked like Melissa Scully, his dead aunt. But they'd never seen pictures of her, so he wouldn't know. "What?" Andy asked in a whisper. "Nothing. Wanna scare Katy?" "Not really, I want to go to bed." "You, tired, already?" Andy smiled and looked at the door. "Daddy's telling us to go to bed. If *he's* telling us to go to bed, I think we should, before we get in trouble." Nathan smiled, "You're right." He climbed back into his bed and looked at the ceiling, which had those popcorn balls glued all over the place. He sometimes looked at them too long and they began to take shape. Then he let them hypnotize him with their movements, until he fell asleep. ********** August 21 3:00 PM Nathan sat in the backyard with his little suit, looking like a small version of his father. There was a flash and he looked up to see his mother with a camera, and Kevin in a contraption on her chest. He wiggled to look around him, making Nathan laugh. The backyard was full of all sorts of decorations and kids. Some danced to the music that Mulder popped in, others sat playing games at the tables set out. Andy came over to him and asked, "Nathan, this is your party, why don't you do something?" "I don't feel like it." "Are you bored?" "Kinda." "Want a Coke?" He raised his eyebrows, grabbing Nathan's attention because he finally looked like someone, although Nathan couldn't remember who. Nathan stood and took his brothers hand and led him to Katy, who was playing with a group of other girls, all Nathan's age, all surprised at the intelligence of this youngster. All of the Mulder children were smart, they'd inherited it from their parents, but only Katy, so far, had the eiditic memory. She looked up at Nathan, "Hi!" She said, happily. She was wearing the cutest baby blue dress he'd ever seen. He sat next to her and she tried to feed him part of a sandwich, which he smiled and courtly declined. One of the girls in the group, Megan, he remembered, stood and held out her hand to him. He took it and stood, a foot taller than her. "Want to dance?" She asked, gesturing at the group of kids that were dancing. "Um, yeah." He said nervously. "Have ya opened any of your presents yet?" Megan asked him. He blushed slightly. "Yeah, a few, but the one from my parents, I can't open that until later, when everyone goes home." "Do you know what it is?" "A new swimming pool." "How do you know?" "My dad told me." "Did you like all of the presents you got so far?" "Yeah. Especially the jean shirt, I love jean shirts." She blushed, "I got that for you, I noticed in school last year that you liked them. I saw this one at a store last week when we went shopping for your present and I knew you'd like it." "I love it, thanks." He said shyly. "Your welcome." She blushed deeper. And then they danced. Fox and Dana watched their son dance with the pretty little girl, happy that he finally looked interested in something. Fox kissed Dana on the forehead and looked down at Kevin who was playing with her necklace. He looked up at his father with his beautiful eyes and smiled at him. Then Katy ran up to them and she looked worried. Fox bent down and looked into his daughters eyes. "What is it?" He asked her. She opened her mouth and took a deep breath. Katy said, in ragged breaths, "Andy's in the tree, he can't get down." Fox took off around the house and got there just in time to see it happen. Andy fell out of the tree. ********* Ok, this is nice place to end it, doncha think? Oh well, I knew you wouldn't so it continued in, 'Andy' ok? And don't worry, it's not like I'm going to kill him or anything, trust me, this hurts me more than it hurts you, I don't like hurting little kids. She felt rather than saw Katy collapse on the floor holding her left leg. She couldn't breath, she ran inside and dialed 911 before she knew what she was doing. The operator of the line asked, "911. May I help you." "My son, he fell off a tree, I need an ambulance at 9542 N 33 Avenue, he broke his leg." The woman told her a time, but she was already hanging up the phone to run back outside. Fox was holding him, people were gathered around them. Dana fell to the floor and took her son. She held him, almost forgetting Kevin until he smacked her chin. Fox took him off of her, contraption and all, and hooked Kevin to himself. Katy came to the front, whimpering in pain, "Daddy, why can I feel him?" Her cry was overshadowed by the ambulance's sirens. She knew he had a broken leg and he was scared. She wasn't sure though, why she felt this. Katy ran to the backyard again. Dana jumped into the ambulance with Andy. Fox kissed them both, telling her he'd be there in half an hour. The doors closed and it sped off, leaving the party. Inside the ambulance they began to wire things about his little body. They looked at his leg and Dana did too. She was sure it was a fracture of the tibia and it would be in a cast for a while. But he would be ok. Right now though, he was crying, she was crying, the driver swore that if they didn't stop, he would start crying. They were probably two of the most beautiful people he'd ever seen in his ambulance and, as unusual as it would sound to his colleagues later, seeing them in pain hurt him. They arrived at the hospital and Andy was already sedated. Dana helped the doctors with everything, she was glad she was a doctor herself, she got to see her son through the procedures. She even helped them put the cast on his lower left leg. It was such a small cast, she thought. She went to the lobby when he was laid in his bed, when she was sure he was ok. Fox sat on a sofa with Kevin on his chest, Nathan and Katy on each lap. She lifted Katy and laid the little girl on herself and then she rested her head on Mulder's shoulder and she fell asleep. ********** Washington Memorial Hospital 7:55 AM next day Dana opened her eyes and found herself still on the couch, but alone. She jumped up and ran into Andy's room breathing a sigh of relief when she saw her family there. Her mother hugged her. "Mom?" Dana asked. "Fox called me half an hour ago, I came to see that everyone was ok." She smiled and sat back down next to Andy, taking Kevin from Fox and feeding him. Fox stood and hugged her. "You ok?" He asked her. "I'm fine, how's Andrew?" The mention of his entire first name meant she was still worried about him. He opened his eyes and looked at her. "Mommy?" He asked. She ran to hug him. Her little baby was ok, that was all she needed to know. "Mommy, when can I get this cast off?" He asked looking at it. "The doctor told me nine weeks." "I'm gonna hafta start school with this thing on?!" He looked at Nathan, who laughed. Katy jumped up on the bed, beside Andy and looked at the cast, then she looked at him. "I felt you." She whispered. "I know." He whispered back. Dana looked from them to Fox, who had that gleam in his eye. The one where he found a new case and he was about to explore it until he knew that what he felt in his gut was right or wrong. He stood and looked at Dana, she nodded understanding. "Mom, why don't we get breakfast?" She asked. Margaret Scully didn't really understand what was really going on, she didn't know if she should care. She stood and followed Nathan and Dana out of the room. "Katy, what did you mean, 'I felt you'?" Fox asked his daughter. She looked up at him and rubbed one tired eye. "When he fell, I felt his pain." "She felt me, I felt her." Andy paused, "It was weird." "Has this ever happened before?" They looked at each other and then back at him and they shook their heads, they hadn't. They still didn't know how to explain it. Mulder did remember that when he got to the yard he found Katy all by herself crying, she said 'It hurts' and then didn't say another word until she woke up this morning and said, 'Hafta potty'. Fox decided not to push them anymore. He just wanted Andy to be ok, and he got that. He would live with that for now. He kissed them each and they waited for everyone else to get back. ********** Eisenhower Elementary School Two Weeks Later Andy sat in the room angry. School had started and he had to be confined to the classroom, he couldn't play outside with the rest of the kids when it came time for recess. He and his sister hadn't shared anymore feelings, they were kind of glad. It had scared them to hear each other. He decided that if he couldn't play with any of them he wouldn't watch them play either. The teacher only agreed because she had a teachers aid and her teachers aid had a broken arm and stayed inside with Andy. Nathan entered the room and looked at Andy coloring, outside of the lines as usual. He sat in one of the chairs and looked at his little brother. Nathan took the crayon from his hand and Andy looked up, shocked, he hadn't heard Nathan come in. "Hi!" Andy smiled. "How ya' doin'?" Nathan asked waving at the aid. "I'm bored. Everyone is outside playing." He paused. "What're you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be in class?" "Yeah, but I asked to go to the bathroom." "Well, aren't you supposed to be in the bathroom then?" Nathan laughed and just looked at the paper he'd been coloring. Katy suddenly entered the class from the door leading to the playground. "What are you doing inside?" Andy asked her. "I wanted to see you." "Me?" Andy asked. "Both of you." "How did you know I was going to be here." She stayed silent. She didn't know if she should tell. "Well, I just came to see that you're ok, ok?" Nathan stood and gave Andy back his crayon and bounded out of the room. Andy looked at Katy. She smiled. "Katy, you should get back outside." The aid told her. Katy rolled her eyes and ran back out. Andy looked at the aid and then put his crayon down, "What's your name?" He asked. The aid looked at him, confused. "Mrs. Greder." She answered. He laughed, "No, your first name." "Why?" "I'm curious and we're both very bored." The aid smiled. She couldn't remember another kid who'd tried to be this open with her. She answered, "Mary." "That's a nice name." He smiled at her and she smiled shyly back. "Why don't teachers use their first names?" He asked curiously. "It doesn't command as much respect." "But usually first names are easier to say than last names. I mean, our teacher, Mrs. McIneley, her first name is Jane. Which would you rather say?" The said stood and walked over to him, sitting in the chair Nathan had been sitting in. "You sure are talkative." "I have a broken leg, it's not like I have anything better to do." He shrugged. "Why won't you go outside?" "I don't want to watch the other kids playing, knowing that I can't." "But you can play." "What?" He lowered his head, keeping his eyes on her. "You can be score keeper, you can be the referee." He smiled, never actually having thought of that. Then he looked at himself and looked at the door, twenty feet away. He looked up at her and smiled his sweetest smile and asked, "Can you help me get outside?" ********** Mulder Residence 6:45PM Fox and Dana entered the boy's room after saying goodbye to Margaret Scully. They looked at their son asleep in his bed. Nathan had gone to play in his new pool, trying to teach Katy how to swim and Kevin had already fallen asleep in his crib. The two of them were exhausted from seeing the crime scenes of a case they had received that morning. "Did Maggie tell you why he's so tired?" Fox asked his wife. She looked up at him and held his hand on her shoulder. "It seems he went out and played the referee for an hour and bmore than enough rounds of Boxing on that video game system with Nathan to put him out of commission for a while." "It's great to hear he finally got over this cast thing. It's just too bad he's got to wear the thing for another sij and a half weeks." He snorted in his sleep and they each held back a laugh. Dana looked up at Mulder and told him, "I think he doesn't want to be disturbed." "You think?" He said sarcastically. Just then Kevin woke up and he made a loud gurgling noise. They both looked in the direction of their room and laughed. Then they left their other son to his sweet dreams. ********** Ok, see, the kid's ok. Katy's next! Thanksgiving was nearing, as was Christmas. Andy's cast had been removed the Tuesday before. Nathan was ticked because he couldn't go in the pool and Katy was ticked because it wasn't easy to get away from Andy after bopping him on the head anymore. She laid in her bed. She heard Nathan, he was eating at the kitchen table, brownies that their grandmother had made for them after lunch for them when they got home from school. Katy wanted to talk to her father, but he would be at work for another two and a half hours. Andy bounced on her bed and laughed at her annoyed face. He loved to bother her. 'Stop that!' He jumped away from her, his eyes wide with fear. She sat up and looked at him. "What?" She asked. "What?" He answered. "What happened?" "You told me to stop, but you didn't *tell* me to stop." "Andy, you're not makin' sense." He sat close to her on the bed. "I heard you, in my mind." She shook her head, no. She didn't want that to happen, it couldn't happen, her mother had told her it couldn't. But her father believed it could. She was confused. "Andy," she started. The boy began to ramble, "It was like when I broke my leg and you were in my head, I could hear you, you were there and you did it again." Margaret Scully came in and looked at the two sitting on the bed watching each other. She put a hand on Andy's shoulder and told him, "Nathan's calling you in the kitchen." Andy stood slowly and tried to 'tell' his sister something, but it didn't work. He stomped away angry. "Katy, what's wrong?" She asked the girl, who was still watching her brother make his way out to the kitchen. Her mouth opened to answer but she couldn't find words. "Katy?" "I'm ok grandma." She smiled at her. Margaret gave her a hug and told her that there were still some brownies left if she hurried. ********** 9:36PM Katy stood at the door of the room. Her mother had fallen asleep and her father sat at the computer typing up a storm, presumably a report on his case to give to her uncle, his boss, Walter Skinner. Fox turned off the computer and turned, he'd felt her presence. He smiled and gestured for her to go to him. She jumped on his lap and hugged him. She sat on his lap and played with the lapels of his robe. She didn't know how she was going to tell him. "What're ya' workin' on, Daddy?" She asked, pointing at the folder on the table. "Nother X-File?" "Yeah, we got this one yesterday. It's interesting, although confusing." "Is it about another monster?" She vbinkled her nose, making him laugh. Dana had given him that same face only four hours before when he told her his theory. "No, it's not about monsters, I think it's about a pyromaniac, who can throw his power somewhere else." "Like burning something on a table ten feet away, just because he wants to?" He smiled, "Yeah." "So, this it like the Cecil L'ively case?" He was amazed at her memory, he had to remind himself sometimes that she was only a small child. She could quote things he said and although it came out mumbled, it was so mature. "Pyrokenesis?" She said. "Something like that." He nodded, then he looked at her, confused. "Why aren't you in bed?" "I couldn't sleep." "Why? Were you having a nightmare?" "No, Nathan was." He was about to ask her another question when he stopped and looked at her. Her head bowed, she was afraid of his reaction, she had seen what he'd done with people who could read minds, he wanted tests, proof. "What do you mean, Nathan was?" "He was having a nightmare and I couldn't sleep." "Did you see his nightmare, Katy?" Tears brimmed in her small eyes. "Katy, no, don't cry." He hugged her. She thought she had done something wrong by seeing Nathan's dreams. She had always been told not to get into conversations that didn't pertain to her, but to get into someone else's dream! "I'm sorry daddy." She said, pouting her lips. "No. No, you didn't do anything bad." "I saw Nathan's dreams. I 'invaded his privacy'." She mumbled the words and he was sure she had heard the phrase from him or Dana. "No, well, yes you did. But that doesn't matter, you couldn't control it. You didn't do anything bad." "Fox, what's wrong?" Dana asked from the bed. He turned to her and he picked Katy up, "Nothing, Dana, go back to sleep, I'm gonna put Katy back to bed, I'll be back in a few minutes." She rolled over and snuggled into the covers. Fox went out of the room and went into Katy's room and tucked her into bed. Then he stroked her straight shoulder length auburn hair. She closed her eyes and soon her breathing slowed and she was asleep. ********* Two weeks later 5:13PM Fox had explained to Dana what had happened with Katy and she didn't really believe him until the girl answered a question in her mind. Katy had cried after frightening her mother. She repeated over and over that she was sorry. Dana only picked her up and hugged her, telling her that it was ok, that she didn't have to worry about it. It was ok. It just happened, there was nothing she could do to control it. "Mommy, why can I talk with my mind, and Nathan can't talk with his?" Katy asked her mother. Dana put the spoon she had been eating ice cream with in the bowl and she set it in the sink. She looked at Katy, wishing that Fox hadn't left to take Nathan and Andy to the football game with Walter. "Um, I don't know sweety." "But you see this all the time." "But I've never really given it much credence..." She stopped, knowing her baby didn't know that word. She thought in her mind another word for it and then she looked at Katy, who was smiling. "You already know." She smiled. Katy smiled back, "I can read your mind remember." "I know your father is encouraging you to do this, but you have to learn how to control it. You can't just do it, ok?" She held her daughters hands. 'If you keep doing this someone bad is going to find out and they're going to take you away from me, from daddy and Nathan and Andy and Kevin. They're going to run a lot of tests. Not like the ones that daddy does, those little fun ones you like so much. These bad people are going to do bad things to you, they're going to hurt you. And if they hurt you, they're hurting me. I love you Katy, please stop.' It took Katy, and Dana, a few minutes to figure out that she had actually talked to her daughter with her mind. She let go of the girls hands and she just looked at her. "You can do it too." She whispered, her mouth agape and her eyes wide. "We have to tell daddy!" "NO!" She screamed, scaring Katy. "I'm sorry baby." She held her hands again. "We can't tell him, you can't tell him." "Why?" "You just can't, ok Katy?" She went to the girl and stood in front of her on the stool, their eyes meeting. "You have to promise me you won't tell daddy that I did that, and that you'll try to control this, ok Katy?" Katy looked worried, but she nodded. Dana hugged her and Andy came in and joined them. Katy looked down at him and they smiled at each other. They heard Nathan and Fox chanting the Cowboys were number one, Dana knew they had won. She didn't know much about football, so she didn't question any of the things they said for the next hour. She made coffee for Walter and Fox, and chocolate milk for Nathan and Andy. Then she went to feed Kevin, who seemed to be growing daily now, probably because of all the feedings. Katy went with her mother to feed Kevin and they brought him out afterwards. "He's getting big Dana." She smiled, giving her AD the baby. Kevin laughed and slapped the mean's bald head. Walter laughed and gave Kevin back to his mother and Katy pulled he down and whispered something in her ear. Dana immediately left the room and Katy stayed, to say good bye to her 'uncle'. Fox picked Katy up after Skinner left and he took he to their room, where Dana was changing his diaper. He reached his arms to Fox. He tickled Kevin. Then Mulder looked down at Katy and smiled, he knew she had read her little brothers mind. He was actually shocked that this little girl had the ability to read minds, it seemed no one else in the family could. Dana smiled at her son, then at her daughter and then at her husband. Katy tried read her mind and was immediately met with, 'Stop it' from her mother. Katy liked sharing this secret with her mother. They'd never really shared a secret before. Fox saw the look they were giving each other and he shrugged. Katy sent him the message, mirroring something someone once told him, 'Some truths are better left alone.' ********** I don't remember the exact quote. Ok, the next part is Kevin. If I can think of anything for him to do. I know, Scully can't read minds, eat me. :) I'm not a fan of the Cowboys, that was just the first team that came to mind. He opened his eyes and saw Andy standing over him, smiling. He was a bit peeved that he'd been woken up, but he smiled back, it *was* his brother. Andy was wearing a brand new pair of overalls, with a brand new white polo shirt, both he'd gotten on his birthday. Kevin thought a moment, should I vomit on him for waking me up, he giggled. *No, Kevin, you can't do that* It was Katy. He pouted as his sister entered the room giving him a sour face as she had read his thoughts. Kevin grabbed the railing and stood, bouncing up and down, wanting to get out of the crib and into the kitchen, where he knew his mother, or father, would be preparing his breakfast. Nathan came in, "Ok, Kev, it's time to eat." He said, lifting him out of the crib. Andy and Katy followed their brothers and sat on stools in the kitchen and watched as their father tried to feed Kevin. He picked up his spoon and threw it, hitting his mother in the leg. She shrieked and turned, then picked up the spoon and washed it, she was used to his earnest ways of getting her attention. He let out a laugh as he spit out some pudding and it dribbled between his chubby legs. "Dana, give me a napkin." Fox said, looking at his son, who continued to laugh at his annoyed face. She turned with napkin in hand and began to wipe him off, "Hey, puddin' legs." She said, he laughed. Fox only stood out of her way and watched them. He couldn't understand why his son gave him such a hard time feeding him and he gave no complaints when Dana did it. Now that he though about it, the only child that hadn't given him trouble during feedings had been Katy. Kevin laughed more as Dana pulled him out of the chair and gave him his bottle, which he could now hold on his own. "What are we going to do for his first birthday?" She asked. "We just had Katy and Andy's birthday party last week, I don't want to worry about another one so soon." He answered. But he had to think about it, Kevin's birthday was exactly two months away. He sighed. "Andy, Katy, Nathan, grab your lunches and get ready, the bus should be here any minute." Dana yelled at her children, who were getting ready to turn on the TV. "We should be getting ready too, we have to be at work," He looked at his watch, "Now." "Oh sh..." She trailed, seeing all her children turn. "My mom was supposed to be here already." She was picking up the phone when the doorbell rang. It was her mother. "I'm sorry it took me so long to get here. I got stuck in some traffic after I left the house late. Overslept." Margaret smiled at Kevin, who was still sucking away at his milk. He knew his grandma would feed him again real soon, all he had to do was pout at her. More pudding to make up for what fell on him. Dana gave her the child, "Mom, don't feed him anymore right away." Her mother only smiled at her. "And make sure the kids don't get comfy, the bus is gonna be here soon." Fox was already at the door, holding her purse and keys. She slipped on her coat and the kids came running for their kisses and they were out the door. Margaret turned to the baby in her arms and smiled, "How about some pudding, huh Kevin?" He giggled through the nipple of the bottle. ********** 11:21 PM Dana awoke to hear her son moaning. Kevin was having a nightmare. She picked him up and he immediately opened his eyes and looked into hers and smiled. She smiled, sleepily, back at him. She walked out into the living room and sat in the recliner and laid back, him on her chest. She yawned, looking at his small head of thin brown hair. "What's wrong Kevin?" She lifted him up and he played with her necklace while sitting on her belly. "Another nightmare?" He looked at her and laughed. She smiled, "Shh, everyone else is still sleeping, you're gonna wake 'em up." He smiled again, giving her a devilish look. She hugged him and they laid there until they both fell asleep in the chair. Fox woke up an hour later and picked them both up and brought them to the bed, laying Kevin in between them. The boy woke and looked at his father and sat upright. "What're you doing, you have to sleep." Fox told him. Kevin crawled closer to his father and laid down against his warm chest. "dadadadadadadada" He mumbled before falling asleep. ********** May 28 4:05 PM It was Kevin's first birthday. He sat in his high chair and watched as children ran around him, mostly his siblings and their friends. He tried to call out to his sister, she turned and smiled *Later, Kevin* and she ran off. He smiled as his grandmother put a icing covered finger into his mouth. "Kevin. How ya' been?" Walter Skinner pulled him out of the chair and took him to see the cake, which was half eaten. Kevin smiled up at him, happy to be out of that chair. He reached out to the cake, wanting more of the frosting and he looked around for his grandmother. Then Dana took her son from him and went to Fox. He was sipping a Coke and eating cake, but dropped both when he saw her coming to make a face at Kevin, who laughed, spitting on himself and his mother. "Dadada" He screamed, getting a laugh out of everyone within hearing distance. "Bu's" He said seeing the floppy eared black and white Shitzu running towards him. Katy ran behind the dog and ten kids ran behind her. "Katy, I thought I said to keep Bugs locked up." Dana scolded her. Katy looked up at her mother and Fox watched the two girls exchange looks and then Katy said, "Ok, I don't want Bugs to poop on the floor..." "...so someone else can slip in it." Dana finished for her daughter. Fox was amazed at how close they'd become in the last few months, he suspected something more than 'Woman's Intuition' but Dana wouldn't tell him. He took Kevin out of her arms and she picked up the dog and took him inside. Bugs was going to be locked in the bathroom, Fox knew that dog hated the bathroom. He got locked in the bathroom every time there was company, or if he went 'potty' on the carpet. Bugs was only a few months old, he'd found him at the pound the week before Katy and Andy's birthday and he remembered the promise he'd made to his daughter a year ago. Katy looked at Kevin and stuck her tongue out. "Kaee." Kevin said. Katy smiled and ran behind Andy who had whispered something in her ear. Dana came back out of the house and took Kevin who began to chant, "Mamamamamama" Dana smiled, Kevin looked out at the kids and then back at her and his daddy. "Na'an?" He put his hands up. "Nathan's not here." Dana told him. "Andy?" "Andy's with Katy." "Gamma." He smiled as his 'Gamma' put her cold hands on his neck. Then he laughed and wiggled into his mothers chest. He hugged her and scrunched his neck so his 'Gamma' couldn't freeze him anymore. "Mom." Dana scolded. "Stop bugging him." He sat up and screamed, "Bu's." Then he smiled and buried his head back into her neck. She laughed and Fox took the boy and flung him in the air. Kevin squealed with joy. Dana sat back in her chair and watched, a little distanced, she wasn't feeling too well. She closed her eyes and enjoyed the breeze that was blowing through the yard. She felt a hand close around hers. "You ok?" Fox asked. She opened her eyes and looked at him, seeing the worry in his eyes. "I'm ok, I probably caught that bug Katy had last week." "Are you sure you're not..." "No." She said immediately, cutting him off. He smiled, "Good, while I love these kids, I don't think I could handle another, 'It just happened, Fox'." She laughed and he felt her forehead. "You are a little warm, maybe you should get inside." She nodded and he took her inside, to their bed and watched her fall asleep. Then he heard, "Mama?" Margaret had entered with Kevin. "Is she ok?" Margaret asked. "She's feeling woozy, but she'll be ok." "She's not..." Her eyebrows shot up. "Again." She finished, taking a deep breath. He shook his head and laughed, "No, Katy was sick last week, she probably caught whatever Katy had." "Oh, ok. Well, Nathan and Andy are rallying for the clown already, I think you should come out and stop them before they start destroying things." She smiled and he chuckled. She left the room and he was going to follow when he heard Dana whisper his name. He turned and bent down, on his knees, at the side of the bed and held her hand. She smiled at him and he kissed her head, telling her, "I love you, Dana." "I love you, Fox." "I'm going back out to the party now, you get some rest, I'll be back in later, ok?" He waited for her to respond. She only nodded her head and then closed her eyes. He stood and walked back out to the party where Kevin clapped his hands at seeing his father. "Dada!" He yelled. Fox took him and the boy just looked into his eyes. Then Kevin hugged his neck with his chubby little arms and told him, to his surprise, "Luv woo." ********** Um, ok. That be it. I think. She could still remember the pain and the joy of giving birth to him as if it were yesterday. But yesterday was a year ago and there they were today. She ran a hand along his bare arm and, him being extremely ticklish, he smiled and balled his fists. He let out a small gurgle and she grabbed a spit rag to clean his chin. He tried to grab the rag in his sleep, but only succeeded in smacking himself in the nose. He grunted and rolled over. "Dana?" Fox asked from the bed. She turned and looked at him with sleepy eyes. "What're you doing?" He asked. "Watching him." She went to their bed and climbed in, snuggling onto his chest. "These kids are growing up way too fast for me, Fox." He looked down at her worried expression and smiled, "You're starting to sound like your mother." She slapped his chest, "And you have grey hair." She retorted. "But I look distinguished." He mocked vanity. "Yeah, well if you loose some of that distinguished hair you'll look like Skinner." He shuddered. It hadn't occured to him that he was getting old, 'no; older, stronger, wiser' he thought quickly. He settled his chin into her hair and closed his eyes while wrapping his arms around her. He whispered, "At least *I* don't dye *my* hair." She pulled on the hairs on his belly and laughed when he moaned in pain. Fox thought of Kevin because he had found those hairs a while back and he yanked on them every chance he had. "When does Kevin move in with the boys?" She asked, looking up at him. "Do you think everyone's ready for the move already?" She nodded, staring at his eyes. "Are you ready?" She nodded again. looking away from him. "Because I remember what happened when we moved Katy and Andy out of this room, and they were two and a half." "And *I* remember *you* when we bought this house and Nathan got his own room." "But we'd been sleeping in the same bed remember - we were saving for the house and decided against a crib." She did remember. Neither of the two moved much in their sleep, so they decided to keep Nathan between them on their bed. They decided if they wanted time alone, together, they would call up one of Nathan's grandmothers and see which one wasn't busy that night. Then, unexpectedly, when they had one third of the money for the house, they found out about Katy and Andy. Or just Andy, at first, Katy wasn't discovered until a month before delivery. They had to move, and they had to take out one hell of a loan. Nathan was only a year and a half and could barely speak when Katy and Andy were brought home. But he could walk, so he helped his mother clean after the twins. Dana was kind of glad he wasn't old enough to give her the, "Where do babies come from?" question. She didn't know if she'd have been able to answer it back then. She smiled, closing her eyes, snuggling closer to him. Before long, both were asleep. ********** Next day 7:15 AM Dana awoke with a child on her stomach. She opened her eyes and looked at Andy, who was smiling at her shocked face. He loved scaring people, especially his mother. She had such an amazing face, and he loved to watch it form emotion. He always knew if she was mad or happy at him because of the look on her face. Right now, she was annoyed. "Andy, whatcha doing?" She asked rubbing her eyes. "Sitting on you." He said, amused. "I can see that, but why?" "I dunno." He shrugged. "Where's everyone else?" "In the kitchen." He paused. "Except Kevin, he's still in his crib, 'cause he's still asleep." "Did daddy tell you..." He put a hand up, stopping her, "He told us Kevin is moving into out room later today." He informed her. "How do you feel about that?" His face lit up. "I love it! I've been waiting a year for it." He paused, "I don't think Katy's too happy about it though." "Why do you say that?" "Because she called me and Nathan 'snots' in our heads." He pointed at his temple. "That was not very nice of her." She turned and Andy fell on the bed next to her. "Not it wasn't. Go Get Her." He said seriously, pointing a finger at the door. She tickled him until he rolled off the bed and ran into the kitchen. She got up and followed, after checking on Kevin. He was drooling, but peacefully sleeping. Fox, Nathan, Andy and Katy were seated at the dining room table eating pancakes and eggs. Fox stood as soon as he saw her and went to the kitchen to get her plate. She sat at the table and as soon as the plate was in front of her she heard Katy, *Why can't Kevin move into My room?* She shot back, *Katy, stop it.* *But, Mommy, Why?* *Katy, stop it now.* *But...* "Katy! I told you to stop it!" Dana stood and looked down at her daughter next to her. Katy looked shocked, everyone did. Nathan motioned to Andy to get to their room - they knew someone was in trouble by the look their mother wore. Fox told his daughter, "Katy, go to your room a sec, I wanna talk to mommy, ok?" "Am I in trouble?" She asked, a little scared. Dana answered softly, trying to tell her daughter that she wasn't mad at her, "No, just go." Katy ran to her room and sat on her bed and waited. Dana sat down at the table and put both hands on her temples. Fox waited a moment before speaking. "Why did you scream that?" He asked. She didn't answer. "You said, 'Katy, I told you to stop it'." He looked at her, her face took on an apprehensive look. "What was she doing?" "She was talking to me." He nodded, understanding. "In your mind." Dana hadn't been a believer in much that didn't have a grounding in science and it had been hard for her to accept her daughters gift. He looked up at her, suddenly confused, "When did you tell her to stop it?" "What?" "You said, 'I told you to stop it,' but I didn't hear you speak this morning until you yelled." She stayed silent a moment and then got up and left. It was a few minutes after she left that he understood that his wife had communicated with their daughter with her mind. She didn't want to tell him because she knew he would probe her, he would want her to experiment with this gift and he knew she couldn't, wouldn't, do it. ********** 3:48 PM After spending the day rearranging the boys room they found out that they had a lot more toys than they needed. Andy and Nathan complained, but agreed to throw out some stuff to make room for Kevin. Kevin stood with Katy, holding her hands tightly for supposrt, as their parents moved the crib in. He laughed and jumped with every toy and bib placed in a drawer or closet. They placed him in his crib and he laid down quickly, it was nap time. Andy and Nathan ran to their father, not really knowing if their mother was still mad. She was expressionless right then, she stood over the crib just watching Kevin sleeping. Nathan asked, "Daddy, can we go in the pool now?" Andy nodded his head quickly. Fox smiled. "Yeah, yeah. Go ahead, but Nathan, watch Andy, Make sure he doesn't drown or anything, ok?" "Like I'd let that happen." He said, shaking his head, smiling fiendishly. He grabbed their suits and took his younger brother by the hand, leading him into the bathroom where they could change into their bathing suits. "Dana, I don't trust the smile he gave me, I'm going to watch them in the pool." She stayed silent. "Ok?" She turned, "Fine." She sighed. He turned and walked out of the room. Katy watched him and she watched her mother. She could sense she was unhappy about something, but she didn't know what, her mother was blocking her. If she could have read her mind she would have seen that her mother was unhappy about making her daughter unhappy. "Mommy?" She asked, from the doorway. Dana turned and looked at her daughter, smiling at her to tell her it was ok to come into the room. She knelt down and Katy walked slowly to her. "I'm sorry I made you mad, mommy." Katy said, her eyes falling to the floor. *It's ok sweetie* Dana 'said'. She smiled widely and opened her arms. Katy ran to hug her mother, glad that she could feel her mothers happiness. "I don't mind that Kevin's didn't move into my room." She smiled, "It gives me a reason to come in here and bug Andy and Nathan." Fox stood at the door and laughed when he heard that, making them both look up at him. "The guys say they want you in the pool, they say they want to wrestle with their mommy?" He gave her a questioning look. "We're going to stay in here until Kevin's nap is over, then we'll all come out ok?" Dana told him. He nodded and turned to walk out of the room. *Love you Fox* He jumped and turned, wide eyed at her. She smiled and then she looked at Katy, who'd heard what she'd done and they both began to laugh. Fox watched them laugh at him and decided, walking out of the room, that he'd fair better with the boys. ********** See, more cute stuff for you! :) Tell me whatcha think, 'cause if you guys like it a lot, I'm thinking of eighteen more of these stories, but only if people are going to read them. Around the house, through the rooms, under the beds, in the closets, the bathrooms, the kitchen, into the backyard. Anything to avoid their parents who wanted to take them to their yearly check up. The doctor. They hated him. Dr. Jack Nogham, an old friend of their mothers, but they still didn't like him. He poked at them, tickled them and then gave them shots. And sure, the lollipops were good, but it was just a bribe for the shot. "Nathan!" Dana yelled chasing him as he ran out of his room and into the kitchen. "Andy!" Fox swung out an arm trying to catch the boy as he followed his brother. "Katy..." Dana caught her by the shoulder and swung the girl over her shoulder as she screamed. "Gotcha!" She screamed. She watched as Fox hooked an arm around each of her boys in the kitchen. They succumbed, finally. The appointment was in fifteen minutes, but they were expected to be late, they always were. Jack understood. It was hard enough for him to get his one girl into the doctors office when she was little, but Dana and Fox had four. Although one was easier to catch. Kevin was already strapped into his car seat and waiting on his parents bed for the chase to end so someone could come in and get him. Bugs jumped up on the bed and licked his face. "Bu's!" He yelled, a little ticked off. He'd been cleaned only ten minutes ago and he knew his mommy would be mad if he got dirty again. "Off." He said. The dog cocked his head and licked him again. "Bugs No!" Dana screamed. The dog jumped and ran out of the room, into Katy's room and under her bed. "Come on." She heaved the car seat up and took it to the car where everyone was waiting, fighting over the radio station. Nothing new, Dana thought. Although she was a little worried, as she was during these visits, that something would be wrong with one of her children. Fox pulled out of the parking lot with the same nervousness. The children pouted in the back seats. ********** Washington Memorial Pediatrics Department 3:07 PM Dr. Jack Nogham had met Dana when she had gone to medical school. He was a tall man, taller than Mulder with golden blond hair and soft blue eyes. He might have made a good model, if he hadn't been so skinny. Although Dana had studied pathology and Jack had studied pediatrics, they had always kept in contact, him joking that he would care for her children. She would always retort that she would never have any. But he had been the first person she called when she found out about her first pregnancy and he had delivered all four of her children. Now they were crowded into his 'torture room' as they kids called it. They hated Jack inside the office. But if they saw him at a store they would all climb onto him to say hello. He knew it was normal, doctors were hated. He looked at the three older kids as they pouted and gestured to the paper-lined bed, "Who's first?" He asked. Nathan always went first. He was always first because he was the oldest, and he always had a knack for catching that cold on the day his mother scheduled the appointment. And he had to go first to be brave for his younger siblings, so they wouldn't be as afraid of their shots. "See, nothing to it." He said, jumping off the paper-lined bed, accepting the green, lime flavored, lollipop Dr. Nogham handed him. He looked quickly at his father, who held back a laugh. Nathan now excused himself to go to the bathroom from fright, he hated needles. Andy jumped up and watched everything Dr. Nogham did. Nogham was used to this, Andy did it every time he came in, he suspected the boy would become a doctor. Andy blew into the stethoscope, making Nogham cringe. "Hi!" He said into it, cheerfully. "How ya' been Andy?" Dr. Nogham asked. "Great. I haven't played in the rain, or eaten things off the floor, or stuck my fingers in my mouth when they're dirty. I've stayed very healthy." He assured, nodding his head. "How's the leg?" "It's fine." "No aching?" "Nope. I can run and jump and hop and play and chase my sister, just like everyone else." He stuck his tongue out at Katy and she laughed. Andy did organize the boys to chase her and her friends during recess. After his examination was finished he jumped off the bed and grabbed the yellow, lemon flavored, lollipop Nogham held out to him and ran from the room to join Nathan. They would both play with toys the other kids in the lobby or the pediatrics office. Katy was next. But she looked at her mother and asked, mumbling quickly, "Can I go to the bathroom?" Dana nodded and gave Kevin to Fox so she could accompany her daughter. Not because Katy needed her to go to the bathroom, but because she didn't want to be there when Kevin started crying from the vaccination shots he still needed. Katy immediately went into a stall and locked it. Dana knocked on the door and her daughter mumbled something she couldn't understand. "Katy, open the door." "I don't wanna." "Why?" "Because." "Katy." "Mommy, I don't want to get examined." "Why?" "Because Dr. Nogham will tell me I'm sick." "How can you be so sure about that?" "Because he'll see all my bug bites and tell me that the bugs gave me a weird cold." "A weird cold?" She tried to look at her daughter through the crack, but she had her back turned. "Everything itches, but they hurt when I scratch." "Oh God." Dana smiled, "Katy, that's not a weird cold, it's chicken pox." "I don't want a chicken disease!" She turned and opened the door walking out, crying, into her mothers arms. Dana picked her daughter up and sat her on the counter wiping her tears with her thumbs, "It's not a chicken disease honey. You're going to have a lot of bumps, they're not bug bites, and they're going to itch and we're going to take pink baths and you're not going to go to school for two weeks. Then it'll be all better." "So, I didn't get this from a chicken?" Katy asked, still a little afraid. "No, but you can tell Andy and Nathan you did." "Why?" "Because they're always telling you stupid stuff like that to scare you. Now you can scare them." She smiled and Katy laughed, Andy would get scared, he was always scared. "Now, let's go back to Dr. Nogham so he can give you some medicine." "Is it going to be a shot?" "Maybe." Katy hugged her and Dana picked her up to go back to the office where Fox was helping Kevin suck on a cherry lollipop so he wouldn't try to swallow it. He looked at her worried, but was relieved when she smiled and sat Katy on the bed. "I have chicken pox." Katy told Dr. Nogham. ********** one week later 2:37 PM As Dr. Nogham suspected, Nathan and Andy caught it. Kevin was going to spend two weeks with his grandma, to her delight. What wasn't expected was when Fox spotted a red bump on Dana's arm. He held it up and she groaned, telling him that she'd managed to avoid it all through childhood, even when her two brothers caught it. Even when her sister caught it four months after her brothers caught it, she didn't. But now she was itching and rubbing and complaining just like her three children. Fox had to take care of all four of them because Dana got a fever of 102 and it held for three days. Then, when it subsided she didn't want to get out of bed because she didn't feel good. Nogham told him that it was normal for adults to feel more pains than children, it was always worse when contracted in adulthood. Fox was at work and the Mulder house was quiet for the first time in a week. Katy stirred from her cozy spot on her mothers chest and looked around her. Andy and Nathan were sprawled along her sides. Bugs was asleep near her mothers feet. "Mommy?" She asked. Dana opened her eyes and looked at her daughter sitting atop her and smiled. "What is it?" "I'm thirsty." She sat up, trying not to wake her sons. The dog immediately jumped up off the bed, waiting for them to follow him. She picked Katy up and carried her to the kitchen. Entering she asked Katy, "Rub my back." Katy reached over and did while her mother moaned satisfaction as she rubbed that spot that she could never reach. Sitting Katy down on the table she asked, "What kind of drink?" "Orange juice." Dana pulled out a small cup, poured the juice, and handed it to Katy. As she chugged she asked her mother, *When is this all going to go away?* "In another week or so." *And then Kevin will come back?* "Yeah." *Why didn't you let Kevin stay here and catch it, so he won't catch it later?* "Because he's too small." *Wanna watch TV?* "What do you wanna watch?" *A movie.* "Bambi?" Her daughter nodded, "You're going to wear that movie out, you know." Katy laughed and set the cup down, "Yeah, but then we still have The Lion King, we haven't worn that one out yet." She smiled and Dana picked her up again. She's so small, Dana thought. "Let's watch the movie and then we'll bug Nathan and Andy, ok?" Her daughter giggled and she giggled hearing her daughter giggle. And then they went to the living room to see 'Bambi'. ********** Ok, another one down! Is this still working? Comments please. Nathan asked from the back seat looking down at one of his scars, one of the few that remained from the chicken pox they got over two weeks ago. Dana turned to her son and gave him a 'Not Now' look to which he sank into his seat and continued to hammer away at his Nintendo Game Boy. Andy leaned over his shoulder and watched him. Katy sat in the seat between the front and the back with her grandma and Kevin. She looked out the window and smiled as she saw the sign that read 'RECREATIONAL AREA'. She was getting good at reading. It was the fourth of July and they were going to spend the afternoon in the park and then from there watch the fireworks that people were going to set off. "Katy, sit down." Fox told her from the drivers seat. There were a lot of cops hanging around and the last thing he needed was a ticket for her not wearing her seat belt. She sat and tightened her seat belt and smiled at him. Then she played with Kevin, who had no idea of what was going on, he just knew that they weren't at home and they were going where he never remember going before. When in fact, he'd been there several times, he'd just slept the entire trip there so he didn't remember the trees and buildings on the way. Kevin had an excellent memory for a one year old. After only one trip to the FBI building where his parents worked he knew from the buildings on the way when they were going again. He'd scream out, "Kinner" [Skinner] and then, "urk" [work] making everyone laugh. He never knew why they laughed at him, but he always joined in. Now he lay down, looking at his surroundings and slapped Katy's hand, which was tickling his belly. "Top" He yelled at her. By the anger in his voice Katy knew he'd said, 'Stop'. So she did. The car pulled into a giant parking lot and Fox was surprised that it wasn't packed, it usually was. He parked and they all stepped out of the car, putting Kevin in a stroller. They quickly found a bench and table under a tree, next to the lake and they began to set things up. Fox quickly got a fire started on the park's grill and cooked hamburger and hotdogs while Katy and Nathan got chased by ducks. "Mommy, can we get duck pox?" Andy asked, watching his siblings run around. She almost spit out the iced tea she was drinking when he asked that. "No, there's no such thing." She said as he looked at her oddly. "Guys, these things are ready." Fox hollered. The children all came running to the table and they sat with paper plates in front of them, waiting to be fed. "Slow down!" Dana screamed as they wolfed down their meals. They looked as if they hadn't eaten in days. As soon as they finished they moved to play again, but quickly looked to their parent for permission. Fox nodded and they ran for the field they were in. Nathan came back for a frisbee. "Dana isn't there a petting zoo here?" Margaret Scully asked her daughter. "I don't know." She said a little perplexed. She turned to her husband, "Fox, is there a petting zoo here?" He sat next to her, "I think there is, why?" Margaret answered, "So we can take the kids later." "That's a great idea, mom." Dana said looking at her kids playing with the frisbee. She looked down at Kevin, who'd fallen asleep right after being fed and smiled. ********** 5:33 PM After forcing them to find the park pool so they could swim they all came back to the comforts of their bench and table under the tree. Kevin was wide awake now, clapping at Andy and Katy who were singing songs at him. Dana laughed as he tried to join in, mumbling words. Fox put a hand on Nathan's shoulder. "Wanna go canoeing?" He asked his son. The boy looked up at him, a little shocked that his father would be asking him to do such a 'grown-up' thing. "Yeah, sure. Great." He walked with his father to the canoe rental shop and they set out on one around the lake that snaked it's way around and through the entire park. "Having fun?" Fox asked him. "Yeah." He smiled back at him. "You're gonna be eight soon, in about two months, do you know what you want for your birthday?" Nathan looked up at the sky and the sun, which was starting to set. "I don't know, I haven't thought about it." "There's nothing that comes to mind?" "Well, I don't think you'd buy me a pony." They both laughed. Fox splashed Nathan's back and he turned, "You're going to tip the canoe." He said, although secretly he'd be glad, the water was cool and he was hot. They were all going to have pretty bad sunburns when they woke up the next day. "You start third grade now, when school starts." "Yeah, soon I'll be in college." Nathan joked. Fox smiled, "Just promise me something." They stopped canoeing and Nathan turned slowly, looking at his father seriously, "What?" "If anything happens to me, or your mom, you'll take care of Andy, Katy and Kevin." "Dad?" He asked, worried. He knew all the trouble his parents got into working on cases with the FBI, their life was always on the line. "I don't mean, now, I mean, in the future." He laughed at his son's worried face. "Yeah, I will." He smiled back, taking his paddle and splashing his father with it. "Oh, we're going to play?" Fox took hold of both sides of the canoe and swung it from side to side, making Nathan scream and grip the canoe. "Dad!" Fox smiled and stopped. "Come on, let's pass by mom so she can take our picture." "She's probably got the camera set up already." He laughed. ********** 6:24 PM They had been right, Dana had the camera set up and she took pictures of them in the canoe while Andy and Katy was with their grandmother at the petting zoo. They told her they would paddle around for a little while longer and they'd be back at around seven. Dana sat on the bench watching the clouds breeze by. She watched some airplane spell out 'HELLO' in the sky and then fly away. She even dazed off, having a few day dreams in the silence. It'd been a long time since she'd heard silence like this. It was nice. She looked down when she heard him. "Mama." Kevin sat up and looked at her, bright eyed. "Ducks." He said. She picked him up and took him, and a piece of bread, down to where the ducks were to let him see them. She gave him a piece of bread and he threw it to them, laughing when they fought over it. Then he griped her shirt when they got closer to him. She stood and he felt safer, higher, and he threw more pieces of bread. Then he looked at her and he looked around and asked, "Dada?" "Daddy took Nathan in a canoe around the lake." She turned him and pointed to the water. He smiled and then looked at the sky and then back at her. "Gamma?" He asked. "She's with Katy and Andy at the zoo." "Wa go." "No, they should be back soon. Everyone should be back soon, the sun is starting to set and the fireworks are going to start soon." "Wha dat?" "What?" "Fire urks?" "They're colorful things that explode in the sky. It's loud, but it's beautiful." He covered his ears and put his head in her shoulder. She was a little amazed that he understood her. He never seemed to understand Fox. She smiled. "Mommy! They had a monkey!" Katy ran to her mother and hugged her leg. "It was a little monkey and it shakes your hand. I shook it's hand, but Andy was afraid." Andy came up, "I was not." "Then why didn't you pet the monkey." "I didn't want to catch monkey pox." He said shyly. Dana gave Kevin to her mother and took Andy by the hand to the lake. Once there she bent down and looked him in the eye. "Who told you that you could get monkey pox?" "Nathan, he said every animal had a pox and you could catch it if you got too close." "Well, I'm going to have a talk with Nathan about his lies. There's no such things as monkey pox. There are only chicken pox and small pox. Small pox is virtual impossible to catch, and you have a vaccination for it. Chicken pox is a once in a lifetime thing, you will never get it again." "Why do they call it chicken pox then?" She thought a moment and couldn't remember, "Don't worry about it Andy. Just know that you cannot catch any other pox." He smiled and walked back to Katy and his grandmother. Kevin looked over his grandma's shoulder and screamed, "Dada!" Fox pulled him out of her arms and smiled at him, "I was going to scare her." He kissed Kevin's nose and the boy laughed. ********** 7:59 PM After eating dinner, packing up and putting things in the car they came back to the bench and waited for the fireworks to start over the lake at eight. The first one went up and they all watched it blow, Kevin screamed and buried his head in his mothers shoulder. They each went off, sometimes two or three or five at a time for at least fifteen minutes. Eventually Kevin put his hands over his ears and watched the fireworks. Then he took his hands off and clapped for each one, enjoying the light show. Dana wondered what he'd be like in Disney World, seeing their light shows, their rides, which were sometimes light shows in themselves. When they ended at eight fifteen, everyone sulked to the car tired and burned. Except Kevin, he was awake and giggling in his mothers arms. They all piled into the car and Dana drove her mother home first and then turned the car to their house and drove there in almost a trance. Every time she looked over she'd see Kevin, in the passenger seat, smiling at her. She laughed, it was the only thing that kept her going. By nine o'clock though, everyone was in bed, even Kevin, who'd fallen asleep after taking a bath, on the way to his bed. Dana climbed into bed next to Fox and closed her eyes, letting herself fall asleep easily. Waking the next morning to her husband telling her the words, "Honey, Bugs is missing." ********** Ok, well, the next one is called, "The Bugs" for obvious purposes. She stared at Fox to make sure he hadn't been joking, but he only looked at her with Katy holding onto his leg crying. Dana sat up and pulled Katy off his leg and wrapped her arms around the girl who continued to cry. "Bugs is missing." Fox repeated. "But, how?" Dana asked. "I don't know, I guess he went through the doggie door in the kitchen." "Then maybe he'll come back." She said, hopefully. She'd had a dog named Rusty when she was a girl, about Nathan age. Her dog ran away several times and always came back, dirty and hungry, but he always came back within two or three days. Katy pulled away and looked at her mother. "Do you think so?" She asked, doubtful. "Yeah, I think if we leave food and clean water for him outside he'll come back later, or tomorrow." "Maybe he got mad 'cause you lock him in the bathroom or because we left him here while we went to the park." She paused and her eyes watered again. "What if someone stole him?" "Katy, no one would steal Bugs, I promise you." She knew if someone did they were in for one hell of a time. That dog hadn't really been potty trained, he still went on the carpet. He didn't know any tricks, he bit adults, and he liked to jump on things. Dana had to replace a vase because the dog jumped on it, knocking it over and onto the floor. Andy walked into the room, his eyes still half closed. He sat on the bed and leaned his head against his mothers shoulder and looked up at her. "What's goin' on?" He asked. "Did we wake you?" Fox asked. "Yeah, I heard Katy cryin' and I woke up." "Is Nathan awake?" "No. Kevin's still asleep too. What's goin' on..." Andy stopped talking and suddenly screamed, "Bugs is Missing?!" He looked at Katy who had 'told' him. She nodded. "Andy, can you go wake Nathan up, tell him I need him to help me with something." The boy nodded and hopped off the bed and went into his room to bounce on the belly of his older brother. Nathan moaned in pain as he was hit with a knee in the arm. "WHAT!?" He screamed sitting up. Andy backed away, "Dad wants you." ********** 3:22PM Fox and Dana were at work, they had to leave at seven forty so they could get in on time, or at least on time for them. That morning they had gotten dressed in a hurry and Fox had taken Nathan out in the car to look for Bugs. They circled the neighborhood, screaming his name out of the window and looking for a dog to respond, but the only response they got was the neighborhood dog's barking at them to shut up. Margaret tried to soothe the children by letting them sleep late, eat junk food for lunch and watch stupid movies that they only watched when she wasn't there. The big bangy kind that make more noise than sense that Margaret always forbid when she was there. But the kids only lay in bed, only looked at the potatoe chips and only sat, depressed, with thoughts elsewhere while the movies played. Katy was worse than the two boys because she would begin to cry, and when she cried everyone felt worse than they had. Even Kevin could sense something was wrong. He climbed out of his grandmothers lap and into Katy's, giving her a kiss on the cheek when her eyes watered. Katy missed Bugs. It was summer and he had spent the last month playing with her on the couch, in the yard, in her room, even when she took a bath he was there on the side trying to hop in. But he was too small. Bugs was five months old, he was as big as he was going to get, and he wasn't very big. "Grandma, what's going to happen if we can't find Bugs?" Katy asked as Margaret put Kevin away for a nap. "I don't know. Your father may buy you a new dog." "But what if I tell him I don't want another dog?" "Then I guess he won't buy you a new dog." "I miss Bugs." "I know." ********** July 14 6:31PM It had been nine days since he disappeared and there was still no sign of him. Katy was beginning to fear that he was dead, but when she 'felt' for him, she could still feel him. That night, Fox got home with an idea. He had been reading cases about animals and people and some psychic links. Dana thought he was crazy, but then again, she always did. He sat Katy on his lap in the back yard and she looked up at the stars, which had begun to shine even thought the sun hadn't fully set. Bugs would have loved this kind of night, Katy thought. She looked at her father. "Katy, you know how you can send messages into other people's minds?" "Yeah." "Why don't you try sending one to Bugs. Maybe he'll come home if he knows you miss him." Her eyes showed hope for the first time in days and she looked out into the sunset and closed her eyes. After ten minutes she opened them and she looked at her father, smiling. "He found his mother." "Huh?" "He's with his mother and his brothers and sisters." She stood, "I know where he is!" She proclaimed. She took his hand and led him inside the house. He stopped her as they entered the kitchen. "Where are you going?" "To get your keys, we have to go out and get him." "Katy." "We have to get him, he's in an old house and he doesn't feel safe, but he doesn't want to leave his mommy. He wants us to help him." Dana was in the kitchen boiling spagetti and she turned, "What is she talking about?" She asked. "She found Bugs." Fox told her. "How?" Fox only gave her a Look and she knew. "Are you going to go get him now?" "I don't think Katy's going to let us wait." "Well, go, hurry back! Take Nathan and Andy." "Why?" She sighed, "Because if you leave them here with me they're going to bug me, until you get back, to take them to where you are and I don't want to deal with that right now." "You ok?" He walked to her, ignoring Katy who was dangling the keys in front of herself. She smiled, "Yeah, I'm fine, just exhausted." She paused and looked at Katy, "Go, before this kid dies from excitement." Fox smiled and turned and screamed for Nathan and Andy and they all hopped into the car, bouncing with enthusiasm. Dana took Kevin out of his crib and sat him in his high chair near her in the kitchen. "Hey, Kev, they're going to find Bugs!" She told him, kissing his nose. He bounced in his chair and clapped his hands. "Bugs!" He hollered. ********** 6:44PM Katy stuck her head out the window and tried to feel Bugs, to know his location. Fox tugged on her shirt and she put her head back in, telling him to turn right at the next light. He did and they were on an abandoned street. All of the kids rolled up their windows, scared. They'd heard one too many of their parents cases to trust any place that had no lights. Fox pulled out his flashlight, that resembled a small sun when on, and flashed it along the houses. They were all old and abandoned, Fox suspected that if he went into one he might find some kids preparing for a party or a few old bums who'd found a place to sleep for the night. "He's in that one!" Katy screamed pointing at one house, near the dead end sign. Fox pulled into the drive way and shined his light on house number 10920 and he opened his door. Katy opened hers and Fox was about to yell at her, but he only closed and locked his and went to her on the other side. "Nathan, Andy, stay in here. Scream if you need me. Don't open these doors, unless it's me, Katy or your mother, ok?" The two nodded looking around them, too scared to disobey. Then they locked their door and they locked Katy's and they watched as their father and sister walked to the house. Fox held his daughter in front of him, close to him. He kept a tight hand on her shoulder. He opened the door, which creaked from old age and he swung it open, taking a step aside, pulling Katy with him. When he was sure nothing was in there that could harm her he walked in and he looked at her. "Where is he?" She looked around and then screamd, "Bugs!" He clapped a hand on her mouth and she looked up at him, her brow creased in confusion. "We could get arrested for this." He told her, not wanting to scare her with, 'Crazy people can come and kill us.' She looked ahead and she pointed to the stairs. As they got to the top they heard dogs whining. Katy smiled and Fox did too, knowing that this was a small dog, not something that could come out and bite off Katy's hand. They whining came from a closet that was slightly open. Fox opened it widely, shining the flashlight in. He found six dogs, all looking like Bugs and a larger one, the mom. She looked tired and weak as she licked her children. "They all look the same." Katy said, "Which on is The Bugs? Our Bugs?" At that moment one stood and jumped at her, licking her small hand. He barked at Fox and he smiled at Bugs. As they turned away from the other dogs, Bugs whined. "What does he want?" Fox asked Katy. She pet him a few times before answering, "He wants us to take his mom and his brothers and sisters to the pound so they can find homes like he did." "There's something we can do." He smiled at Katy and gave her Bugs and another small puppy and told her to go to the car. Then he picked up the remaining four; two in his hands, two in his shirt and took them to the car. After taking the puppies and their mother to the pound they went home. As they walked in the door they were greeted by Dana yelling, "Where were you?! You had me scared out of my mind!" Fox hugged her and smiled at her shocked face, "We found Bugs." He told her. "Great, does this mean I'm going to have to start cleaning after him again?" She looked at the kids and asked, "Where's Bugs?" They all turned around to see Bugs, going potty on the rug. ********** Ok, see, the dog is ok. He smiled envisioning Nathan trying to teach Kevin to swim and Katy yelling at him to get Kevin out of the pool and Andy not really paying any attention at all because he would be watching some bug jump around the yard. "Mulder." He looked up and Scully was standing over him with a smile on her face. "You still on this planet or have you joined your alien friends in space?" He shook his head, "What's up?" "Well, we have a new case." "Details." He waved a hand motioning for her to go on. "It isn't an x-file, but our friends at the VC want our help on this one, they say they heard you were pretty good at finding people." She smiled. "A man, approxmaitely thirty years of age, well built, blonde haired, brown eyed, six feet tall, has been on the run for almost two years now, he kills one person every month and then relocated to another city, one that he's never been in before." She handed him a file. "He kills them all in the same fashion, first he beats them, then he rapes them, then he beats them again, and finally he puts a bullet in their head." She paused. "There's no identifiable pattern between the victims, they range from old men to young children. His profile says he does it for fun." "Oh yeah, real festive." Mulder deadpanned. "There was a kidnapping near here yesterday, in Baltimore actually, and they want our help to locate him." "How long do we have?" "Two weeks." Mulder made a face, he didn't like that time frame. "Who was the kidnappee?" "A twenty two year old woman named Helen Gregory." "Let's get to VC, see if we can find out any more." ********** Mulder Residence 6:22PM Mulder slouched down loudly on the couch and rubbed his eyes, turning on the TV. Dana set herself to making dinner with her mother, who decided to stay for a little while longer, seeing that they were so tired. Margaret asked her daughter, after twenty minutes of silence, "What's wrong dear?" She stayed quiet for a moment and then turned to her, "We got a new case and it's a little disturbing." "What's it about?" "You don't want to hear about it, trust me." She took out a head of lettuce from the fridge and began to slice it. "How were the kids today?" "Tired. They all took naps and they didn't want to go into the pool, said they didn't feel like it. I think it was the heat, weather man says that this heat wave isn't going to go away for another week, at least." "Then I'm glad our AC in the basement is working this week. I don't know if I would have made it through today if it hadn't been working." "This case is really that tough?" "It's not that it's tough, it's that Mulder wants to catch this guy so bad that he had me running from the computer labs to crime scenes to the VC." "One hell of a case huh?" "It's pretty normal, the thing is we did all this work and we couldn't find anything more than the people who originally had the case and I think it's pissing Mulder off." "I can't believe you still call him 'Mulder' and you're married to him." "I guess we had to find a way to separate our home life from out work life." Margaret smiled and took the knife from her daughters hand. "Why don't you sit down and relax, I'll finish dinner." Dana hugged her mother, "Thanks." She walked out of the kitchen and she went into Katy's room, where she was playing with her dolls. She sat on the bed and watched Katy play in the open doll house, she hadn't seen her mother enter. "Hey." Dana said. She laughed when Katy jumped, bumping her head on the roof on the house. "Mommy, don't scare me like that!" She said, climbing out of the house. "What did you do today?" "We stayed inside because it was too too hot outside." "You could have gone in the pool and cooled yourself off." "No, I would have had to have gone too far. I wasn't going to go ten feet from the house, it's too hot out there." Dana smiled at her, then stood abruptly. She walked out into the living room and stood in front of Fox, who was getting into the baseball game they were giving on TV. Nathan and Andy both moaned, they had been watching the game too. "Help your grandma." Dana told the boys. They both stood and mumbled under their breath as they walked into the kitchen and were given tasks. Andy was happy though, his was to go watch Kevin and make sure that when he wakes, someone knows. "What is it?" Fox asked her. She sat on his lap and hugged him, "Do you think there might be a distance that this guy won't go beyond?" "What do you mean?" "I mean, how far is each of the murder sites from the kidnapping site?" "I don't know, I'd have to check on that." She stood and he looked at her. "You want me to check now?" "The sooner we solve this, the sooner we can move on." He got up and went into their room to get to the case file while she took his place on the lazyboy. Then she heard rustling and the door slammed open. "Scully, get over here!" He cried. She got up and ran into the room, the door slamming behind them, making everyone else in the house jump, even Kevin. He woke and looked at Andy and then he sat and waiting for someone to tell him nothing had happened. "Find something?" She asked, walking into the room. "You're a genius." He kissed her. "What?" "All of the hotels that the dead bodies were found in, they're the exact distance, in miles, as the age of the victim. All we have to do is check every hotel that's exactly twenty two miles from where Helen was kidnapped." "I'll call VC." ********** Next Day 8:10AM Four hotels were at that distance and three had been checked that night. They didn't find Helen in any of them, or any person that resembled the one, two year old sketch of the man. But that morning, with Mulder and Scully to assist them, they found Helen, in room twenty two of the fourt hotel. She was beaten, but not badly and she hadn't been raped yet. They tried to set a trap for the guy, but he never got there, apparently aware of the set up. He sat in his car on the curb of a bank watching them. He noticed the couple that had searched his hotel room, the two that stayed and waited for him. They looked a little chummy for FBI agents. They looked too comfortable with one another. He smiled and decided on his next victim. But a gun was aimed into his open window suddenly. He gasped and looked at the officer and he was forced out of the car. "What the hell is going on here?" He asked the officer. "We have to bring you down to the station for some questioning." "For what, I haven't done anything." "Well, you sure are interested in what's going on over at that hotel." "There are a bunch of FBI agents staking it out, who wouldn't be interested." "No one else has stopped and stared as long as you." Suddenly another officer put the cuffs on him, "You're under arrest." ********** Courtroom two days later 4:32PM They watched, horrified, as he was let loose. They never had any real evidence against Vincent Kylie Harrison, so they couldn't convict him. Not even Helen could identify him, her kidnapper had worn a mask over his entire head and he had her blindfolded most of the time. No prints were ever found and there was nothing on him that would indicate his guilt. He smiled exiting the courtroom and met with Mulder and Scully on the stairs of the building. He looked at Mulder and he told him, "Sorry you didn't find what you were looking for man." "I will." Mulder said. "See you later." He smiled at Scully and Mulder stood between them. "You can bet on it." He walked down the stairs of the courtroom and Mulder looked to her. "I can't believe how easy it is for some of these son's of bitches to get out." "We'll get him Mulder, we just have to find some proof, at least now we have a picture and a name." "Right now all I wanna do is go home and let Kevin spit up on me, I know he wants to." He smiled, that child always wanted to spit on his daddy. "Well, don't get too excited to go home to see the kids, I planned for them to stay at Grandma's place over this weekend." "Why?" He looked at her and saw the devilish look in her eye, he now knew were Kevin got it. "I just want to 'rest'." "Rest huh? I may have to join you." He kissed her and she smiled at him. Both happy that this guy would be moving on to another location and he would have to deal with two other agents. Vincent had heard him, he knew the two were married, Kevin was probably their baby boy. He smiled as he exited the courtroom and left in a taxi, he had a lot of planning to do. These two weren't going to stop him from doing this again, somewhere else. ********** Sorry the kids weren't really in this one, and it was really fast for the subject, but hey, you still have the next one, 'The Visit' which should be the kids, non stop. :) Well, I may clue you in on what Fox&Dana are doing, but I think you already know. :) Mystic Nalvarez@delphi.com From nalvarez@delphi.com Sun Sep 15 18:59:11 1996 Path: news.ro.com!imci2!pull-feed.internetmci.com!newsfeed.internetmci.com!news-feed.iguide.com!de lphi.com!usenet From: Mystic Newsgroups: alt.tv.x-files.creative Subject: REP:It Just Happened(12):The Visit Date: Sun, 15 Sep 96 18:59:11 -0500 Organization: Delphi (info@delphi.com email, 800-695-4005 voice) Lines: 217 Message-ID: NNTP-Posting-Host: bos1d.delphi.com Ok, this one officially ends the second six, but don't freak, I have the third set of six already planned out, including a trip to Disney (If you want them, but you have to tell me you want them.) They were free for the weekend, which meant they could do what they wanted without any interruption. It was the house that Margaret Scully had bought after her eldest son, Bill Jr. had moved out to go to college. It was a two story house, with four bedrooms, although one was a study, and it had two bathrooms. The two bedrooms that weren't occupied most of the time each had one giant bed, for visitors. Those visitors were usually the kids, anytime their parents wanted a weekend to themselves. Dana and Fox didn't usually like to be separate from their kids, but they did sometimes need a break from the noise, especially when they worked on a case where the killer got away. Margaret suggested they stop having these little excursions, it seemed that every other time they had one, Dana came back pregnant. Margaret turned to look at the children. "Go on inside, it looks like it's gonna rain." She told them. Nathan was the first to run inside the house and find a room, he always picked his uncles' old room, Charles. It was the biggest room and it had the biggest bed. Katy ran to her mothers old room, the one she had to share with her other aunt, Melissa for two years, and laid down in the bed, looking at the picture of her grandparents on the bedside table. Andy would sleep with Nathan and Kevin would sleep with their grandmother. Margaret Scully loved it when her children left their children with her, especially these four, they were her youngest. Her eldest son had two boys, but they were already fifteen and thirteen and they weren't interested in visiting their grandmother anymore, they would rather go to the movies and see girls. Charles had no children, he worked for the Navy, just like his father had. Melissa, Melissa couldn't have children, even when she was alive she couldn't. Nathan ran into the living room to grab the remote before his siblings. He was king of the TV, he didn't have to compete with an older man for it, finally, he thought. Katy was still day dreaming when Kevin wobbled to the bed and screamed, "Kaee!" She looked at him and smiled, "What?" She asked. "Wa go ou." He said, pointing to her window. She stood and told him, "No. We have to take a nap." "No nap, wa ou." "Kevin, you have to sleep for a little bit." "Seep heeo." "Fine, you can sleep here, for now, but later you're sleeping with grandma." He smiled as she helped him into the bed. He quickly dozed off and she did too, after watching him for ten minutes. Andy was already attacking Nathan for the remote. Their grandmother didn't have the Disney channel, like they did at home, but she did have PBS and PBS was giving a special Sesame Street, which Andy was supposed to watch with Kevin. "Andy, get off of me." Nathan squealed as Andy jumped onto his legs and started grabbing for the remote. "Nathan, I wanna watch TV." "So do I!" "Andy, get off of your brother." Margaret came out of the kitchen with two glasses of orange juice and handed each of them a glass after they had separated. "Why are you fighting for the TV?" Nathan answered, "'Cause we both want it, but I'm older, I should get it." "If that's how it goes, then give me the remote. I'm the oldest here, I get the TV." Nathan handed over the remote. "You're not going to watch daytime soaps, right?" He asked after taking a gulp of the juice. "No, it's Saturday, they don't give soaps. I watch The Fishing Network." Andy and Nathan ran screaming from the room and into their room. Once there they began to devise a plan on how to get Katy, they were always trying to get Katy. She was sleeping now, she couldn't read their minds. "We could get her to go outside in the rain and then grandma would get mad at her." Andy suggested. "No, Katy would never go out in the rain." "If she thought Kevin were out there she would." "But she would read his mind and know that he's inside the house with us." Andy let his head slump. "This thing about her reading minds and stuff really sucks. We can't do anything to her anymore." "Yeah, well it was your falling out of the tree that first triggered it." Nathan gave him an evil look and Andy stood and walked from the room and joined Katy and Andy in the bed they were laying in. He quickly fell asleep. Nathan stood and walked out of the room, to the living room and sat in his grandmother's lap, bored. He looked at the TV and saw the cartoons. "I thought you said you were going to watch The Fishing Network, grandma?" Maggie looked at the boy, "I'm not that old yet." He smiled and she laughed, "Why don't you call Andy over, we can watch cartoons together." "He fell asleep with Katy and Kevin." "Are you serious?" "Yeah, they all fall asleep when the weathers like this." "All rainy?" "Yeah." He snuggled into a spot beside her on the chair and laid his head on her shoulder. She hugged him, knowing that he would be asleep within minutes. ********** Next day 5:15PM They each packed their things, ready for their parents to come and get them at any moment, hoping that they would call and say they wanted an extra day. They loved to stay at their grandmothers house. There were trees in the yard that held a tree house big enough for the four of them, or course they never took Kevin up there, he was too small. Margaret walked into Katy's room with a sigh, the little girl looked exactly like her daughter at that age, except that instead of cleaning a BB gun, like Dana could often be found doing, Katy was playing with dolls. "Hi grandma." Katy said, dropping the doll and looking out the window. "Hi." "Do we have to leave?" Katy asked, turning. "Yeah, but don't worry, I'll be at your house tomorrow morning, seven forty five." She smiled. Katy returned the smile and went to hug her. "Don't come." She said. "What?" Maggie asked. "Don't come, don't go out on the street until eight, at least, please." Maggie pulled the child away and looked at the tears in her eyes. "Why not sweetie?" Katy looked at the floor, "Something bad is going to happen." "What?" "I don't know, but I know you can't leave the house until eight, if not you'll be hurt, really bad." Katy ran from the room at the sound of the doorbell. She jumped into her mothers arms and began to cry. Dana looked at her mother coming down the stairs with an odd expression. Maggie shrugged, knowing her daughter would ask why Katy was crying. "I don't know, she says something bad is going to happen." Maggie told Dana. "What did she tell you?" Fox asked, holding Andy over his shoulder. "She told me not to go out until eight." Fox looked at Dana and then back at Maggie, "We'll go into work a little late then. Don't leave this house until eight in the morning." Katy nodded into her mothers shoulder. Dana hugged her mother and then picked Kevin up with her other arm and everyone said their goodbyes and they went home. Once there, Katy retreated to her room and didn't come out until dinner was called for. Nathan, Andy and Kevin watched as their mother made them some odd stew that they knew they would be forced to eat even though it looked funny. Fox went into his room and he began to type on the computer, he still had to fill out a report on the case. He heard a scream. It was Dana. He ran out to the kitchen and she was sitting on the floor with her three boys around her. They moved away when he approached. He knelt down in front of her and saw the tears in her eyes and he lifted her off the floor and hugged her. "What's the matter?" He asked. "I saw something, a crash, in front of mom's house, she, she was in the car, driving here and she got hit by two other cars, she was, she..." She began to cry and then they heard Katy begin to cry. Fox picked Dana up and took her to her daughter where he laid her down and he hugged them both. They had both seen the crash. They both knew what would happen if Maggie left the house before eight. That night Katy slept with her parents while the boys slept in their room, confused by what was going on. The next morning Dana woke with a jump. Katy rubbed her eyes and looked at her mother. She looked to her side and saw that Fox was not in the bed with them. She was about to panic when she heard the toilet flush and saw him walk out of the bathroom. She glanced at the clock, it was seven, on the dot. They should be getting ready for work, she thought. She tried to get ready without thinking about what she saw, but it was impossible. She wanted to call her mother, she wanted to drive over to her mother's house and make sure she didn't leave early. Fox saw her glancing at the time, then the phone, then the car keys and grabbed her shoulders and took her to sit on the bed. He looked into her eyes. "Dana, you're mother believes in psychic ability, she knows Katy has experienced it, she will stay home." "How can you be sure?" "I just am." She stood and went into the boys room to wake them up, they had to get ready for the day. It was seven forty five and the doorbell hadn't rung yet, Dana was getting nervous. The only thing that didn't take her over the edge was the fact that Katy was still watching TV without so much as a small start. Then the phone rang. ********** Ok, that's it, you have officially come to the end of the second six. But don't worry, there is more to this being written as you read this. :) Comment to: Mystic Nalvarez@delphi.com
