Dedication: To my faceless,nameless,cyber friend, Kurisu Kuroi. Please believe in your heart. This is from Paper Clip and occurs after Mulder and Scully leave Skinner in Mulder's apartment. Mulder, "I went to your father's funeral. I told your mother that you were going to be OK". After considering this unusual revelation, Mulder asked, "How did you know", hoping, but not really expecting some insight into the inner thoughts of his partner. Cryptically, Scully responded, "I just knew" as the elevator opened and she brushed past him to enter. He followed pressing the button for the bottom floor. Mulder turns and notices tears building in the eyes of his normally oh so stoic partner. Scully looks down to avoid scrutiny as Mulder reassures her with, "I'm fine Scully, really," and Scully simultaneously responds, "Mulder, I was so scared." Seeking clarification, Mulder reiterates her early statement that she had told his mom that he was OK. Recognizing the statement as the question it was Scully explained, "I only realized that a couple of days ago." Pinning her with his gaze Mulder quietly asked, "How did you know?" Still examining the floor, Scully whispered "You wouldn't believe me if I told you." "Try me." Blue eyes met hazel eyes and Scully opened her heart, and in a rush confessed, "Well, after we spoke the other day, I stopped feeling you in my heart. This is going to sound crazy Mulder, but ever since I met you, I have felt your presence in my heart. And then, you just weren't there." Awestruck, Mulder asked, "You 'feel me in your heart', Scully?" Still meeting his gaze, Scully responded, "I always have. Then suddenly there was a hole. Then 2 days ago, I started feeling you again and I knew you were OK. Mulder took Scully in his arms, wincing slightly as he lifted his left arm and squeezed her tightly. Scully returned the hug, placing her head on Mulder's chest comforted by the strong and steady beat of his heart. As the elevator door opened, Mulder placed his hands on Scully face, bent over and kissed her lightly on her lips and said, "I feel you in my heart too."
