They were in front of Scully's new apartment. She had called Mulder to help her move in, and she apparently had a lot of stuff to move, so Mulder was there pretty late. "Yeah?" Scully's back ached, and she was pretty tired. She was ready for Mulder to go home so she could go to bed and get some sleep. "Um, Scully, I really, I, uh?" "Mulder, just spit it out. I'm tired and in pain and I don't want to have to sit here for two *more* hours waiting for you to tell me something." Scully raised her eyebrows, waiting for Mulder to say what he wanted to say. "Scully, I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed being in your company today." "Well thank you. Now can we both get back to our own apartments and go to bed?" Scully was pretty annoyed with Mulder lately. He had been getting on her last nerve, complimenting her on the stupidest thing, like the way she had picked up a pencil, or the way she wrote her name. Sure, two years before, when she and Mulder had gotten involved in that crazy business of UFOs and human alien hybrids and the vaccine and the corn and the bees, Scully was really interested in Mulder. But now, after seven years of working together, Scully was pretty sick of him. And lately he had been showing even more attention to her than ever. "Scully, I just wanted to say?" Mulder paused for a minute, then continued. "Scully, I've worked with you for seven years, and after all of that, I think?I think I love you." Scully closed her eyes and secretly rolled them under her eyelids. She decided that, since Mulder *was* still her friend, she would give him the satisfaction. She leaned towards him, and he leaned down, and there was?contact. It was a long, wet kiss. Scully slowly pulled away, and waved goodbye as Mulder walked down the street. *It was okay*, Scully thought. She used her key, entered her apartment, and went to sleep. * * * * * At the office. Washington D.C. 9:27 AM Scully looked up from her files as Mulder entered her office. She wasn't in as bad a mood as she had been the night before, and gave Mulder the best smile she could. After all, she rarely ever smiled. "Scully? I brought you some flowers!" Mulder approached her desk and put a bouquet of fresh red roses on her desk. "Why, Mulder! Thank you!" *From Mulder or not, roses are still roses* she thought to herself. She got up to give him a hug, and he took a deep breath. "Um, Scully, about our kiss last night?" Mulder had a look on her face that made Scully think he hadn't liked it either, which she was glad of. "I know, Mulder, I didn't like it either." At the same time, Mulder was telling her that he loved it. *Uh-oh* Scully thought. She was in deep. What could she say now? "You didn't? Well, um, neither did I," Mulder said, trying to cover his embarrassment and hurt. He quickly left the room, and Scully felt horrible. "What am I going to do?" she groaned. She was so stupid to say something like that. How would Mulder feel about her now? Knowing what she had to do, Scully left her office and went down towards Mulder's office. "Mulder?" she whispered, cracking the door open. He was sitting down, his head down on the desk. He jerked his head up and cleared his throat as Scully came into his office. "Oh, Mulder, I didn't mean?I just, I mean?" Scully hadn't quite prepared her speech, so she didn't know what she should say. *You know*, she said to herself, *you've never been in this situation before. Why don't you fool around with it?* she thought. But Scully shook her head around, decided that Mulder was not the best person to fool around with when it came to emotions. "Scully, you meant exactly what you said. I should've known." Mulder turned away from her. She walked around his desk and went to his side. Lightly touching his shoulder, she was going to attempt to explain to him. But he pulled away. "Mulder, it's just that, we've been friends for so long, my romantic feelings for you have given way to more of a brother/sister type of feeling. But that doesn't mean I don't like you Mulder." She stood there and looked into his eyes, hoping he could understand. "I understand, Scully. I just thought we maybe still had a chance. But don't worry. There are other fish in the sea, and I'm sure to find one. Don't worry about me." Mulder stood up, squeezed Scully's hand, and left the room. "Well, that's over," Scully said, and she followed Mulder out of the room. THE END * * * * * So, what did you think? It's not all that good, I know. But send me some feedback, tell me what you think.
